Left is considered a masterpiece

>left is considered a masterpiece
>right is barely known
Damn shame because The Thin Red Line is probably the best war film of all time and one of the best films ever made. One is a trashy Vietnam action flick with edgy characters and the other an exploration of war and death.

It's a measure of Malick's complete disinterest with the normal conventions of Hollywood that actors such as Lucas Haas, Vigo Mortensen, Jason Patric, Mickey Rourke, Martin Sheen and Billy Bob Thornton all spent months in Queensland Australia and the Solomon Islands filming roles that ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor.

>The Thin Red Line is probably the best war film of all time

But the apocalypse was a detective psychological kino, not some retarded hur dur war flick

both are great movies, hardly comparable.

The Thin Red Line is very well known.

Hard to fly under the radar when you have so many celeb cameos.

Retard. Left should be shaving ryans privates

first of all youre wrong about thin red line being unpopular and Apoc Now is a masterpiece
srsly fuckin terrible thread

>tfw the trailer to Thin Red Line made me cry once

>tfw I saw The Thin Red Line a couple of years ago and I can't remember a single moment from it
Not that good probably

>The Thin Red Line is probably the best war film of all time and one of the best films ever made.

As a combat wounded vet, I wholly agree. The film encapsulates both the reality of war, and the mind-games every combatant must face. The yearning to return to a more simple life, to be back home with all those who ground us in life. How that fixed point you depend on to give meaning to life can shift and fluctuate.

It simultaneously represents the horror and beauty that can be found in warfare. Moments where all you have to hold onto is subjective reflections of peace in a time of war.

The Thin Red Line
Master and Commander
and Glory are the best war films I've seen.

What do you think of Generation Kill?

It is the best representation of the lifestyle and attitudes that exist among service-members in confronting a non-sensical war and all the stupidity that follows.

Thin Red Line is a vietnam movie

Is Malick a pedophile?

Feel I should qualify this comment, it is the best representation for OIF (Iraq war 2003-). The Thin Red Line covered as much in the context of WWII.

Malick is asexual.

Both of them are incoherent slops.

Are you retarded?
They are both great and completely different. If you want to compare war films, compare Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line.

Apocalypse Now never really spoke to me
they brought a soldier back to kill some power maniac in the jungle and in the end he does exactly that
some nice atmosphere, but the plot is unengaging

Thin Red Line also had a better soundtrack

Thin Red Line has the most obnoxiously pretentious voice overs of any film I've seen. I had to turn it off after about half an hour. Made me want to rip my ears off.
