Cars don't explode unless you make them I have personally disabled about 20 cars with a 50 cal. None of them exploded and I think I only killed 2 people.

Myhtbusters covered this , they tried to get a car to explode with a half empty gas tank. They shot at it with tracer rounds and even poked a hole in the tank and tried to light the stream of gas. Its pretty hard to get a gas tank to explode , its the exception rather than the rule.
