None of these are trying to be a superhero movie, and in 2/3 of them the killers don't have superpowers. Brightburn is clearly seeking to emulate the traditional narrative structure of a superhero story, specifically Superman's, and twist it into a horror movie.

Well, the only one of these with cool superpowers that are interesting to watch is Nightmare on Elm Street. And they've made nine of those, so it seems like people don't mind the repetitiveness.

The idea of raising a child only to discover he is an alien with tremendous power and has a taste for destruction is pretty frightening. I think it would be all the better if it is irrational.
