I was trying to understand why I don't like found footage movies and I think now I got a sort of an explanation.
Films are always made with actors, of course. I can imagine horror films as remotely based on a true story, then filmed; but found footage are something that is supposed to be true (the footage) featuring actors in it.
Basically, the format shortcircuits my suspension of disbelief.

One of the selling points of FF is immersion and immediacy, instead of viewing through a divorced perspective, a third party, FF puts you in the hands of one of the characters, the veil between you and the character is thinned. What you see, they see, there's no cameraman between you and the character, the character IS the cameraman.

I should add that I strongly believe I'm unironically autist. I have a hard time reading emotions on other people.

It has nothing to do with emotion, it's about immersion.

It's an after the fact explanation; the format just doesn't work for me.
That said, I liked the original REC and Chernobyl Diaries. Blair Witch Project 2 was better than the first one, IMO. I guess it's my problem with perceiving emotions again.

If your autism stops you enjoying FF, that's not really the fault of the format. Immersion is about experience.

Take a scene from a hypothetical movie: a monster is chasing a character down a hallway.
In a traditional film, the character is shown running, screaming, scared, the monster in the background, maybe a little out of focus. But everything is more or less in clear view.
In a found footage film, we now experience the character's POV with no safe veil between us and the horror. We experience every stumble, every horrible sound behind our POV, every glance thrown over the shoulder to see something awful barrelling down upon us.

Started out interesting, but it devolved into the same tired "idiots shouting at each other and doing stupid shit for the second half of the movie."

Just watched Catskill Park and was pleasantly surprised. The first half/third was kinda weak but I thought the second half was great and the idea behind the film was pretty interesting. Guess I've just watched too many ghost/supernatural type FF movies and so a more tangible threat made it seem a bit more tense throughout.

On a side note, I joined The Horror Channel probably a year ago and I just got blocked from downloading torrents because apparently I wasn't seeding enough. I've only downloaded 4 movies total, one of which was free and the other ones used a free leech slot. I have the files still but I don't have the torrent files. Since I don't have the torrent files and can't download anything there's no way for me to seed the stuff I do have. Anyone have this happen before? I did seed all the things I downloaded for a couple hours ish, but I never got any seeders so I deleted them. Even now if I check the ones I downloaded there's no one leeching. Should I contact a mod on the site or is this ban temporary? I assumed the free leech slots were an exemption to the seeding rule, plus since they aren't high in demand and no one leeched from me I figured it wouldn't matter.

I did this when I started out, I made a plea in the shout box that I was a complete newfag, wanted to fix my fuck ups and they obliged.

On THC, whatever you download, freeleech or not, must be seeded for a certain amount of time, you can check this at the bottom of your profile. What you did is known as a Hit and Run, downloaded the movies and deleted the torrent files so no one can get them from you. Popularity of the movie doesn't matter, what you get must be seeded. After the obligatory time for seeding is over you can stop seeding. But seeding also gives you karma to spend on goodies on the site like upload credit and stuff, it's worth it to seed. It takes nothing to seed your torrents in the background, I have a toaster of a machine and temperamental internet and just leave my client on in the background seeding, no biggie.

Just go and explain you fucked up, someone explained what you did wrong and you know how to fix the issue but need help from the site because you're unable to re-download the torrent files. They're a reasonable lot over there, just don't be rude about it. When they let you re-download, before you download again, delete your old versions of the movies so you don't have duplicates and don't one day accidentally delete the wrong version.
