I saw Bumblebee for the first time yesterday. I was pretty fucking excited to see all the G1 shit in the beginning, especially Soundwave and Ravage.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie.

I'm enjoying it. The action isn't jumpy and nausea inducing. The female lead makes sense and isn't hamfisted feminist crap.

I think that's what I was most impressed with. They realized they need to tone down the action and make it as realistic as possible.
I think it helped that they kept the drama and tension to a minimum. It wasn't some world ending shit like the other Transformers film.

Only plebs watch trailers. Go in raw or don't even go to the kinoplex

I never saw Age of Extinction or The Last Knight because the second and third ones were so bad, but Bumblebee got me pumped for the idea or actual kino Transformers movies again.

I watched like a rifftrax of the first three but I never took them serious to watch them. They were like twilight to me.

Yeah, that makes sense. I had extreme interest in seeing the first one because of nostalgia. I don't know what kept me coming back to the second and third ones.
Michael Bay doesn't deserve the hate he gets most of the time, but the Transformers movies (that aren't Bumblebee) are pretty terrible even if they do have some kino establishing and tracking shots.

This film is a masterclass on how to mix boomer nostalgia with zoomer sensibilities in a way that isn't obnoxious.

Cultural Nods to the 80s that make sense.
Strong drawing from the actual source materials.
Pretty diverse actors but no hidden agenda or message.
Enough "muh explosions" and nods to bay that it keeps the ADD kids happy.
Small scale story that's just fun and emotional
