Shit-tier:

The animation style annoyed me.

1. Secret war

Is this like a meme?

I’ve watched about 10 of them and the only ones I’ve really loved so far were Zima Blue and Beyond the Aquila Rift. I guess my third pick would go to Good Hunting, but I only really liked the first half. I think it would have been better without the steam punk stuff, or possibly it just needed to be longer and better paced.

Anyway, a lot of people here seem to have really liked the Witness, but that was the only one I didn’t really “get”. I was watching it while eating dinner so I might have missed something. Maybe I’m just a brainlet. Can someone explain it?

>Is this like a meme?
Not that user, but why would posting the best one be a meme? You even liked Aquila Rift which was based on a story by the same writer as Zima Blue, so I’m surprised you didn’t like it.

1. Aquila I love you spider chan
2. Zoomer blue
3. Yogurt

1. Apocalypse Now
2. Interstellar
3. Stalker

OBJECTIVELY:
Zima Blue
Beyond the Aquila Rift
Good Hunting

Its a loop, He sees her, chases her, she kills him, as she does that he sees her, assume a loop happens, thats all there is.

1. Auila Rift
2. Secret War
3. Zima Blue

Lucky 13 comes in just behind Zima Blue. It was honestly hard to decide which I liked better, but I felt there wasn't much to Lucky 13 beyond flashy action sci-fi and an anthropomorphized dropship.

Attached: 1439226117110.jpg (393x360, 21K)

Aquila Rift, Zima Blue and Good Hunting are the correct answers. The rest had barely any plot at all and were just animation showcases.

>torrent this crap

Thank God I don't have a cuckflix subscription.
Imagine actually paying for a company to tell you that you're a piece of shit.

Ok but in the beginning she witnesses him on the other side of the road killing someone. Does that mean that the loop alternates between who is killing who on what side of the road?

And what is the meaning? I’ve seen some people here say that it’s an allegory for casual sex, but I don’t reallu understand the connection.

The series as a whole isn’t great, but that first episode is one of the worst in my opinion.

Zima Blue
Beyond the Aquila Rift
Lucky 13

Honorable Mentions:
The Witness
Suits

The key to that story is she lied about that and is all fucked up because she got hit by a van.

Its a tribute to Batman, if you kill a killer the amount of killers stays the same.

why is zima blue memed so much? shit's reddit as fuck

Bigger blacker cocks

It doesn't mean anything, someone thought up the epic plot tweest but couldn't come up with the rest of the story to give it context, which is why it ended up as a 10 minute short and not a movie.

Suits was a fun concept but the final battle didn't seem to have any stakes at all when 90% of the bugs just ran past the three mechs making their final stand.

>A black robot born a slave becomes a freeman gets bored and goes back to being a slave

Thank God I didn't watch the rest of this movie. Imagine actually paying to see a movie about package delivery. I mean, that's what I assume the rest of the movie was about.

Suits would make a nice videogame

harvest moon + mech building and fighting, play multiplayer with your virtual neighbours

The bugs ran past towards where everyone else was, which was exactly what they were trying to prevent from happening.

I'll fully admit it was one of the weaker shorts as far as story and characters go, but I liked the "comfy midwest farmer" meets "starship troopers cap suits" vibe.

what a stupid short

Good Hunting was the sóyest short of them, I bet you who love it so much are the ones behind those terrible Alita threads. Absolute worat was the one with Hitler. Imagine being this retarded to write and produce such garbage,

I thought it was okay. Dumb, but funny in a really low-brow way. The lady robot calling X-Bot a fucking pussy got a laugh out of me. I also felt like they pulled off the chemistry of three friends bullshitting and fucking with each other pretty well.

1 L'ascension du chevalier noir (2012, Nolan)
2 Hiding From McGee (1929, Voitto)
3 L'empathie sur une tache de naissance (1959, Raleigh)

It's way overrated here, it's basically citizen kane with slave undertones. it also had the worst animation style of the bunch in my opinion, that being said it's still better than the majority of the other shorts due to actually feeling like a completed work and having a good(albeit very trite) message.

Not that guy, but Three Robots deserves to be at the bottom. They took a concept that could have been a very interesting, eerie look at earth after humans are gone, our last vain attempts to save ourselves, what we decided to do with the little time we had left. Instead they decided to have a 15 minute segment of sophomoric humor, modern talking points, and outdated cultural references. You could find the same quality of entertainment in almost any mediocre stand-up routine or late night talk show. it was peak reddit.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the animation but the story did absolutely nothing for me. Faggots on here act like it's the most nuanced thing on the face of the planet when it's the most straight forward and most boring story out of the entire series.

Attached: 1553088158454.jpg (640x626, 57K)

Too many of the shorts tried to do too much with too little. Zima Blue isn't trying to be more than what it is - a simple story told and visualized well.

Sucker of Souls was the absolute worst of the lineup. Why the fuck was it even included?

that looks like pure kino

I don't get the hate for fish night. It had a simple concept and it seemed mainly to be an excuse to have neon cambrian sea life.

Sucker of Souls builds up a neat concept and then just abruptly ends. It had the potential to go on for a little longer and have some kind of story or ending, but it decided to end on walking into a cave of draculas

Fish night was just eye candy. It didn't pretend to be anything else.

Based and redpilled, fuck these fags

It's a not-horrible sci-fi film that made the critical error of trying to tell an original story to a group of fans that were just pissed it wasn't "MUH FINAL FANTASY VII MOVIE!!!"

Because it has quirky strong female character shooting Dracula dick off.

I want to fuck that thing.

Good Hunting had a lot of potential but didn't capitalize on most of it. What could have been a really interesting story about a human and spirit trying to maintain a friendship as the rise of technology and industrialization slowly strips away her powers instead turned into a fucking weak fucking allegory about the exploitation of women.

Sucker of Souls would have been a cool, although out of place, addition to the other shorts. but it was bogged down by the worst dialogue in the entire series, unnecessary humor, low quality animation compared to the others, and as you mentioned, an abrupt ending.

I agree with you about Fish Night, but as some other anons have pointed out it was also a retelling of Icarus to some degree, which is pretty neat.

You're right, the "I've become robo prostitute and strangled fat dick dude" killed the episode but first few minutes had very good potential.

Honorable Mentions:

Thee Robots

I can't stop thinking about that scene.

Good Hunting is about environmental conservation. Very specifically, how wild animals interact with humans and human activity. Notice how she loses the ability to turn into a fox when railroads show up? that's a metaphor for habitat destruction forcing animals to exist solely in captivity.

I honestly had to replay The Witness just for that one line. I don't know why I find it so entertaining. I think it's all the little details, and how abruptly it switches away from her once she says it.

>plebs that found good hunting deep eternally btfo
Animation shit, story is shit, monster is shit, environment is shit.

Probably because there is a colonialist element to what does happen to animals and their habitats: but it's not like the short doesn't touch on how indigenous populations relate to animals. The story literally opens with a Chinese dude trying to kill Yan's mother because she a nuisance to the community, which more or less matches my personal experiences with how the generation of my wife's parents (older Chinese people) actually do relate to animals in general, and wild animals in particular.

>throwing acid in the face of people who insult /yogurt/

Attached: 1547403743857.png (240x221, 77K)

I require webms and HD images of the girl from the Witness for personal reasons

I can at least respect the yogurt one for being exactly as long as it needed to be.

IT was boring and ugly.

The art director of Into the Spiderverse did a better job in The Witness.
You can't prove me wrong.

It wasn't too interesting of a story. The Witness wasn't that great of a story, either, but it gets by on the fantastic animation, nudity, and PUSSEH lady.

Although I did appreciate the old man in the dump looking at BBW porn and being shy about it in front of his cobbled-together sex doll

One thing LDR has taught me is people will forgive awful, awful writing if something looks pretty.

I mean, that's how most people end up married.

Okay everyone
Which one had the worst ending?

I think it is Ice Age

Sucker of Dicks. I didn't see anything wrong with Ice Age's ending

Zima Blue. Ruined a perfect episode with an unintended message about lobotomy, and not to rise above your station, due entirely, I assume, to incompetent writing.

While not a particularly well animated or insightful story, it has Maurice LaMarche doing his best Orson Welles narration voice, so that's an instant win.

What did they mean by this?

It was an extremely poorly handled moral about finding meaning and satisfaction in the simple things in your life.

Why do people love Secret War so much? It had the depth of Yogurt but was like 3 times as long.

Dude imagine being poor little "Greta". All these aliens keep showing up in your home out of nowhere. You're telepathic and completely understand their suffering. You try your best to comfort them and help them deal with the awful, awful situation they've found themselves in, but due to basic human nature the great majority of them reject your help and freak the fuck out. You do your best to help people, it isn't enough, and you get to watch them go insane and/or die time and time again despite all your efforts. Worse yet, many actively resist your help

Soviets fighting the Zerg. Simple concept but executed well. That, and everybody loves doomed wintery expeditions and last stands. The whole 'father, no' thing at the end was fucking dumb though.

What was with the girl in the crew? Why did she get tipsy and/or have those freak out episodes every time she awoke? How come everyone forgets there was a 3rd crew member like 30 seconds in?

She says she's had dreams like this before. Assuming this is Tom's first experience, Greta probably woke her up first. When she saw through the illusion and freaked the fuck out, Greta put her back to sleep and either tried again, to no avail, and then decided to try it with Tom instead. The female crew member was better at seeing through the illusion and her being groggy/freaking out is a result of that. That's why she correctly said "that's not Greta, Tom". The reason the third crew member is forgotten about is because if you look at the pods, the female crew member is emaciated but alive, while the black dude is clearly skeletal/rotting/dead.

Invading? Sure. Malignant? I'm not so sure. I don't see humans going out of their way to fuck with the alien bugs and their cattle. As far as we know the humans are just colonizing somewhere with super hostile fauna. There's no indication that the bugs are intelligent besides somehow being able to open portals through the forcefield thingies.

Alternate Histories or Ice Age. Alternate Histories was bad because it was a great idea (an app that lets you explore crazy alternate timelines) and then completely fails to explore its own premise. The entire thing should have started with "What if Hitler got hit by a car?" followed up with "What if Lincoln shot first?" and kept going from there getting crazier and crazier with each new vignette. Ice Age was bad for the exact opposite reason - it's a tired, played out premise that's been done infinitely better by other shorts and episodes.

Secret war
Aquila rift
Sonnie's edge

Ice age is

Ice Age had some charm to it and the visuals were good. Alternate histories was literal dude lmao Hitler reddit jokes.

>Good Hunting
>Zima Blue
>Ice Age

It was actually about the exploitation of China, gradual industrialization wouldn’t work because they were going for Britain’s rape of the Orient, only instead of Opium it was big steampunk prosthetics.

I just liked Ice Age for the scene where Topher Grace gets sunburnt by a nuke.

Like we wouldn't try to take something once we got in. It's our planet, why not?

Alternate Histories had the one amusing short where Hitler gets run over by a horse and buggy, imperialist Germany mechanizes, and takes over the Moon before it proceeded to run its joke into the ground.

Ice Age didn't do a single thing or tell a single original joke that wasn't already done better in:
The Simpsons' "The Genesis Tub"
Futurama's "Godfellas"
South Park's "Simpsons Already Did It"
Rick and Morty's "The Ricks Must Be Crazy"
and all the other parodies of the original Twilight Zone episode "The Little People"

I see your point, but since you mentioned hitler, that one was shorter (and made me chuckle).
Ice age had Topher fucking Grace.

Alternate Histories suffers from people obsessing over finding increasingly creative ways to kill Hitler, because that is apparently the only historical figure in the history of the planet that should be the subject of shoots, stabs, strangulations and exsanguination. They could’ve told us what would’ve happened if Hannibal won the Battle of Zama!

Why do people hate Topher?

I don't hate Topher. I just thought the sunburn thing was clever.

I think the best thing that could have been done with alternate histories was to have a lot of diversions really not change anything at all in the long run.

Alexander the Great doesn't die in 323BC? Turns out he's a horrible statesman and his empire collapses before his very eyes, anyway. Franz Ferdinand survives the assassination attempt? Something else triggers World War 1, shit happens the same.

And then you have something completely minor and inconsequential change, but it hugely alters the timeline. Like, Freddie Mercury doesn't join Queen, some other singer does, the band creates music that transcends art, unites people, and brings about a new age of world peace like in Bill and Ted.

Lucky 13

Top Ones:

Both Aquila and Zima were apparently adapted from Alastair Reynold's works. I've never heard of him before, but I guess I gotta check him out now.
