I think you mean worst era. The fights devolved into pure beam spam with no melee combat whatsoever, the miniature design work was worse, and a good many of the new or redesigned kaiju were lame, with the exceptions of Destoroyah, MOUGERA, Battra and Biollante. It has the worst Mechagodzilla, worst Ghidorah, a forgettable Rodan and a very static looking Mothra.
>Worst Mechagodzilla No. Maybe second worst, but not bad either. Also the movie itself was kino. As for worst Mechagodzilla, pic related
>Redesigns The only redesigns I had any issue with were Rodan and maybe one of the versions of Godzilla. The only new design or monster I disliked was Space Godzilla, but we also got Destroyah and Biolante, probably the best Toho kaiju designs in any era. Ghidorah is mixed, having less personality but more menace, though I've never liked Mecha King Ghidorah.
I'll give you the worse sets and worse fights, but the actual movies were better written and taken more seriously. I can name 2 movies that were legitimately sub-par, with Godzilla vs Mothra being decent but a remake of a better movie. Meanwhile Biolante, '84, and Destroyah are pretty much accepted as pure kino.
I'd say it's my favorite era due to having 3 of my top 5 Godzilla movies. Millennium has 2 good movies with 2 shit ones and one average one, and Showa is all over the place. Consistent quality goes to Heisei.
I swear to god, I gotta see this movie in IMAX. Never been into Godzilla because my country never shows them on TV but currently getting the movies so I can watch them this year. KoM will be my first IMAX movie after I was stupid enough not to drive 3 hours to watch Aquaman in IMAX. Godzilla should be a fucking spectacle judging from the trailers
Looks amazing, every shot is cinematic. Thank God Legendary got Gundam.
Brody King
Is the Meg kaiju kino?
Oliver Baker
No

It is

I'm really looking forward to it. I appreciate they're taking their time with these movies so far, and albeit some nitpicks here and there, I really enjoyed both Godzilla and Kong. I hope it does as well as it possibly can, introduce Godzilla to more people, and I really hope Godzilla vs. Kong is cool.
Dominic Rogers
That's barely MechaGodzilla. It's just there to NANOMACHINES SON the plot along, and never actually does any MechaGodzilla shit At least City on the Edge of Battle had cute moth pussy, I guess
> SKREEEEEEEEEEEONK It’s even funnier when you consider Godzilla’s drawn out roar right after
Matthew Wood
I hope to god this movie does well, only because I want to see this motherfucker come back On a more movie related note, I really hope the fucking kid isn't as prominent in the movie as I think she's going to be
I remember when I finally got the chance to watch all of these old movies, mostly from the 50s, all for the first time (best marathon I ever had). The Beast and Them are of course the best American monster movies from that era (of course there were also alien movies). I'm glad they exist, not all of them aged just as good.
That's the only thing that comes to mind that's worth anything in these movies. Three fucking movies it's gonna be such a chore during the rewatch of the entire series.
Dominic Cruz
I like the IDEA behind Godzilla being this force of nature that changes the landscape just by being there, but the way it was done is just garbage. The characters suck and are, for the vast majority, completely one dimensional. Metophies is the only character aside from the moths that is somewhat complex, and even that is thrown out in the third movie to make him Ghidorahs conduit, and go from a morally gray character to just a straight up black
They could do that AND make a better job at creating that universe and their characters. Godzilla doing something more than just taking a few steps in each movie would also improve it. In fact making a more traditional Godzilla movie. They could do a fully fleshed out Final Wars with all the monsters without fear of going overbudget. And they had three movies too.
Ok so we didn't get that but even slower and more symbolic Godzilla movies had something interesting. Even such basic things like action and music.
Jeremiah Garcia
I love Godzilla 2014 and Kong Skull Island. Had no idea they are hated here.
Evan Garcia
The whole "show other monsters fucking things up for 2 seconds in the first movie's opening" really annoyed me and set the tone for the whole series. There is so much you can do in animation that can't be done in live action, and Godzilla fights could be beautiful if done right. Instead we just have idiot humans and other races being retards and doing nothing for an hour and a half in 3 movies. Although, the burning Godzilla was a pretty good scene, shame nothing really came of it because the only thing it could do was destroy the city. They didn't even do anything with it in the next movie, when he should really have still been scorched to shit
2014 was an ok movie, bogged down by shitty characters and a distinct lack of Godzilla. I will forever be asspained that Bryan Cranston was killed off within a third of the movie, only for an actor with the range of a wooden plank to take over
Benjamin Garcia
Well unless he would've acted differently I don't even mind he was killed off. Although there's a chance his character would've cried a bit less after being vindicated.
Andrew Clark
And that's a small thing. I also thing the only mistake when it comes to monster scenes and their screentime is how they cut the Honolulu fight (huge mistakes because the viewer was the only one who didn't see it in full the fight was visible from the POV of the characters). I really like this movie and I like it a bit more each time.
Early Showa (Up to DAM) is best. It has a dip in quality, but rebounds with the MechaG duology.
I like the anime MechaG design, even if it never got used. Looks like a skeleton. I just find the Heisei films so dull. They’re in a weird middle ground, where they’re too serious to have fun with, but not serious enough for a thoughtful experience like Shin or the original. The fights especially drag things down. Biollante especially suffers, as her effects are great but they’re not barely on display to matter.
Landon Sanchez
>He hasn't seen Harryhausen work his Kino Motion on one of the best kaiju films from the west
Fucking watch it nigga.
Julian James
I say this: Yea Forums IS GARBAGE But these generals are great, the only good thing that came out of Yea Forums(other than Baneposting,Project Blue Book/ayy lmao threads and Raimiposting). Kaijukino is amazing.
Blake Foster
I love Godzilla's design from the anime. Lots of good ideas but bad execution. I hope they do a cartoon series of Godzilla.
Grayson Nelson
At least Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla '93 and maybe Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah are very cinematic (GvKG a bit campy but fun) in a good way. Just solid but other movies aside from maybe Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla had their moments.
Easton Murphy
JUST MAKE IDW GOJI COMCS A TV ANIMATED SERIES ALREADY!!!
Christopher Howard
Legendary series feels like Rulers of Earth with no aliens and nicer Godzilla.
How would Yea Forums reboot Godzilla and make it as big as star wars or MCU worldwide? I talk by all:videogames, movies, cartoons, toys, etc. How? How would you handle the brand?
>I can name 2 movies that were legitimately sub-par, with Godzilla vs Mothra being decent but a remake of a better movie. Meanwhile Biolante, '84, and Destroyah are pretty much accepted as pure kino. King Ghidorah has awful writing and it's not just the time travel stuff. Destoroyah's cast is superfluous and the Oxygen Destroyer subplot goes nowhere. Mothra has similar issues and beats the viewer over the head with its irrelevant environmental message. SpaceGodzilla speaks for itself. The special effects nosedive after Biollante. King Ghidorah and Mothra are inferior to their Showa counterparts in execution.
>That's the only thing that comes to mind that's worth anything in these movies. What? How about the films seeing their thematic material through to the end? What having developed aliens for the first time in ages? What about the great action scenes? What about the cast is any worse than what you normally get? Especially for someone who loves the Heisei films as much as you seem to.
Charles Smith
Pretty much the only things of any value from Heise as 84, Biollante and the posters.
Tyler Jones
Agreed with the Ghidorah part. Destroyah had a relevant cast, with G-Force attempting to stop Godzilla's meltdown, and the Oxygen Destroyer subplot literally creating Destroyah as well as the weaponry used to fight Godzilla and Destroyah throughout the movie. Mothra I again agree with, though it's not nearly as bad as Ghidorah or Space Godzilla. Not sure what you think of MG2, I find it pretty enjoyable if flawed myself, with the human cast being both forgettable yet important to the plot.
Biolante is definitely the peak of Heisei, though.
Jordan Clark
I'm struggling to come up with something good. It won't be anything about Godzilla or other monsters, not the main character or the plot. I was kind of hopeful after the first one that it's just getting started, I definitely didn't fault them for not having a memorable crew or vision of human-alien relations from Mass Effect. But it was so difficult maybe because I watched them all together but I can't think of a really noteworthy scene or subplot. The expedition through the forest was fine I guess, snippets of other monsters at the beginning, I liked how I recognized Light Yagami's voice actor. Maybe when I watch them one at a time once a couple days I won't be so miserable.
Kevin Ross
Maybe Biollante the monster at least for the use of practical special effects even if we only see it briefly at the end.
Mason Walker
Boys we are about to witness a $200 million dollar monster opera
Nathan Ross
Looks like something out of Revelation
Kayden Watson
Noteworthy moments? Leland's death, Yuko's death, the destruction of the Atatrum, Godzilla nuking MechaGodzilla City, Haruo's mindtrip journey, King Ghidorah approaching Godzilla, Haruo's death, and anything dealing with the speeders and Vultures. The argument scenes remind me of what you would see in '84 or Shin.
Jordan Butler
I think the anime movies had some really strong messages, and always found their endings very impactful, but a lot of their kaiju stuff was dull. Godzilla never does anything more than fire his atomic breath or do a shockwave, and his fights with the military are just a fast swarm of stuff barely doing anything to him while he plods among. I don’t know why they made an animated Godzilla so slow and static.
Gabriel Evans
>worst Mechagodzilla >worst Ghidorah Bullshit.
Henry Green
just watched destroy all monsters, cool movie. ill have to check out the films those non-godzilla kaiju are from ghidorah didnt even stand a chance in that fight, he got rekt so fucking hard i felt embarrassed for him, even minilla got a solid hit on him
Matthew Hernandez
I'm going to nut to this when I see it in theaters.
Thomas Jones
God damn this ghidorah is turning out to be perfect.
Wyatt Rodriguez
>Thank God Legendary got Gunda Just praying they make them as faithful as Ready Player One did. And take primary influence from Gundam Wing for the designs.
The IDW comics are mostly meh aside from the phenomenal Half Century War and the Titanousours issue from Legends.
From the Dark Horse comics, I would love to see a adaption of pic related issue, basically Godzilla vs Daimajin. Them focusing on fantasy would be a interesting change of pace.
>The special effects nosedive after Biollante Nah, the dorats sucked but... Godzilla's suit in vsKG was fantastic and a slight improvement on the vsbio suit as they made him more muscular and demonic looking. Ghidorah looked great especially the MechaKG. And the final city set in vsKG was fantastic.
Julian Myers
No the entire film is phenomenal and easily among the best G films ever made.
Half Century War is fucking great desu, reread it yesterday for the first time in a while. The Color Special is pretty neat too, nice and simple story that is still effective and features some great action scenes (the bit with Godzilla wiping out the US warships is great)
Caleb Nelson
HNNNNNNG

>They based. you aight wite boi
Ayden Kelly
I'm expecting nothing but a bunch of crazed fanatics that haven't left the house in years showing up to witness this kino. don't disappoint me, boys.
>Beautiful TV Spot: >youtube.com/watch?v=yHzJSvVGn8k I am very bothered by the erotic undertone of this. Why do they say their names with a breathy voice. And there is this guy calling this "messed up". He is talking about a gang bang right? And that Japanese guy...I don't know...this is not right...
Christian James
Nips actually voted it as THE best. There was a huge poll conducted in Japan, leading up to Shin's release, and to everyone's surprise, Vs. Biollante actually clawed out a win against Gojira by a measly couple dozen votes. Both leaving everything else in the dust and far away at that.
Isaiah Brown
is english your second language?
Joshua Clark
Dunno about that, we know from the leaks that he gets btfo so hard he becomes Cuckdan, and the only thing we saw in the trailers we see them smash into each other and tumble from the sky, while Ghidorah bites into him. according to someone claiming to have seen an advanced screening of the complete movie two weeks ago over at AutismKingdom, seemingly legitimized by him describing the shot with the cross two weeks ago - that is all it takes for Kekdan to submit.
Michael Barnes
If there was no bonkers spy subplot with a really bad ending that's only topped by Godzilla vs. Megaguirus almost ending mid-sentence. And Biollante not having anything to do until the very end. It's not the most complete movie but I anything with the monsters in this. One of just two from the 80s from Toho. Biollante is the only original monster from that period.
Easton Jones
...yes...
William Parker
That guy also drew these and said that they are some of the OC Titans that show up in the film Here’s the desert spider thing
