Danys arc is she realizes westeros is doomed unless she makes an alliance w/ cersei and the only way to do that is to formerly renounce her claim to the iron throne. Also fits with the moral ambiguity theme that has been the through line of the show up until two seasons ago as the bad guys kind of get what they want, but you show the bittersweet nature of their victory as cersei has lost everyone she loves in the process and littlefinger is cucked by his wife who everyone likes better and who shuts him out of political life
