Has there been a movie in recent times that has hypnotized its fans as much as Alita? Even the rabid Star Wars fanboys only saw TFA 5-7 times while you've got people going to Alita 10, 15, 20 and even more than 30 times. This is lost art. I don't think people were even that crazy about Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurrassic Park etc back in the days when movie experience was unique and far superior to home video. It's amazing for a movie to captivate its fans so much. I hope Jimbo, Landau and Rodriguez realize they've made something special and don't feel too down about the BO numbers.

I can't think of anything comparable. I've never seen a movie more than twice in my life. I sincerely hope they're aware of what a profound effect this has had on people. It's like finding an oasis in the desert. I can't imagine they're completely shut off from the reactions people have had and the fact that it's done above and beyond what anybody said (and continues to say) it could is a testament to their work and vision.

The original is much more hand drawn and detailed
LO is too slick and at times it's very minimal
I think the quality goes back up again in Mars Chronicle, like Kishiro is much more interested in the story and enjoys it, but the original Battle Angel along with the short stories taking place between the original's events are the best looking

Last Order has a really cool opening and the core of the whole ZOTT arc is basically a sci fi heist using a futuristic fighting tournament as cover for breaking the city's security, which is a pretty solid framework to build a story on.
I think it would work a lot better if the priorities were flipped and it was more about the planning and execution of the heist with more of a focus on breaking ICE/cyberspace combat and stuff like that, with the tournament being a background distraction. As it stands, the tournament overwhelms everything else and I barely even remember the details of the Ketheres heist.

I never took serious the idea that pop cultural squabbles are an accurate microcosm of social decay (never paid attention to gamer gate and shit like that) but it just hit me while listening to a podcast (Storm of Spoilers) reviewing Alita how much insight we can glean from this vapid arena. It was straight out of a mocking greentext but it was genuine: a woman, a meek sounding numale and a snottily supercilious sounding numale go out of their way to paint Alita as problematic (literally kept using that fucking word) and anti-feminist. The woman fixated on that one fucking scene where the Berserker body remodels itself and the snotty asshole did the whole “Look I used to be a 20-something male (snearingly inflected for maximum value judgment) and this film was just an escapist fantasy for that demographic” spiel while his timid comrade self-flaggellated in masochistic agreement. He said ABA was an escapist fantasy for loser young men who can’t talk to women where you can dig a pretty robot out of the trashheap you live in so you can fuck her. It made absolutely no sense since the man who salvaged her was a respected cyber doctor playing an entirely paternal role literally clinging to the memory of his daughter while Hugo was an extroverted athletic badboy hunk and only ever kissed her. It was so fucking obvious this dude was boosting his own ego by putting other men down with a completely contrived interpretation of Alita that he passed off as solid and that the others agreed with. Holy fucking Hell numales ARE real. I can’t close my eyes to their vile pusilanimous sniveling any longer. It terrifies me to think about how a generation of boys is growing up with the idea that being male carries guilt and that the same social success that comes with proving yourself through hard work can also be earned through sanctimonious virtue signalling. I don’t think it’s by design in a conspiratorial way, just a feedforward loop of human nature but fuck I’m MAD.
