I saw the original recently again on tv. It was shown along with The Duelists and that movie with Jeff Bridges where he's a captain in command of some teenagers. Diddley Squat used to be amazing, aging sucks

BR2049 is a solid 9/10, with a few minor but ultimately inconsequential flaws that despite having a simple theme is still too intelligent for 99.99% of modern audiences, especially Yea Forums posters.

It's way to long to be anything above a 5/10. 2049 seriously needed a better editor. There's so many long and drawn out scenes that need to be cut or shortened.

How, apart from the theme of the main protagonist's humanity vs. being a replicant (which the original doesn't even commit to fully)? What's the Joi parallel in the original? 2049's backstory involving false memories, growing up in an orphanage--where is that in the original? The villain is totally different, it explores the themes of sex robots/AI, and it shows the world outside of Los Angeles, which the original did not do.

The future is a soulless urban dystopia, it's thematically correct. Blade Runner always felt kind of comfy in a way, and even though they're tonally dissimilar movies, 2049 feels bleak and depressing in a way that surviving in some megacity would.
