Would you watch a biopic about the life of Kaiser Wilhelm II?

Early 20th century figures like Kaiser Wilhelm, Tsar Nicholas, and King George V seem to be relatively unexplored in cinema. Would you watch a film about any of these guys? If not is there anyone you'd prefer specifically?

Not if Idris Elba isn't cast as the Kaiser. But to be serious I can't imagine a decent film being made about him without turning him into some cartoonish buffoon with typical German stereotypes like how supposedly all Germans speak really, really, loud when they talk because normies introduction to the German language is Hitler videos.

wilhelm was the original 30 year old boomer

I think cinema is very much capable of depicting these guys as human characters. Take a look at Downfall for example. People would have much less of an agenda in creating such films as there's not nearly as much baggage with guys like Willy. I just don't think there'd be enough of an interest to create a big budget film about these guys.

Yea, but it's the "band movie" problem. These people did so much, it would be really hard to make a good movie about them that isn't just a quick summary of their lives.

I think a miniseries would probably work best.

Christopher Plummer was great in this.

Put Michael Fassbender in the lead and I'm in

Look into his birth and early childhood. Serial killer stuff right there.
GET BACK ON THE HORSE.

Fassbender should play Ernst Junger in the B-plot

Some kind of movie or miniseries starting after the assassination of the Kaiser and ending at the outbreak of WW1 would be pretty cool.

Downfall was truly a great movie and it's amazing it even exist especially considering it comes from Germany. I'm just trying to say that in today's political climate a film about the Kaiser will be overly biased against him instead of placing him in his time in context. But who knows, i'd be glad to be wrong and I can already visualize what a good Kaiser Wilhelm movie could be like, like 'The Last Emperor' or 'Downfall'.

>Wilhelm's most damaging personal blunder cost him much of his prestige and power and had a far greater impact in Germany than overseas.[48] The Daily Telegraph Affair of 1908 involved the publication in Germany of an interview with a British daily newspaper that included wild statements and diplomatically damaging remarks. Wilhelm had seen the interview as an opportunity to promote his views and ideas on Anglo-German friendship, but due to his emotional outbursts during the course of the interview, he ended up further alienating not only the British, but also the French, Russians, and Japanese. He implied, among other things, that the Germans cared nothing for the British; that the French and Russians had attempted to incite Germany to intervene in the Second Boer War; and that the German naval buildup was targeted against the Japanese, not Britain. One memorable quotation from the interview was, "You English are mad, mad, mad as March hares."[49] The effect in Germany was quite significant, with serious calls for his abdication. Wilhelm kept a very low profile for many months after the Daily Telegraph fiasco, but later exacted his revenge by forcing the resignation of the chancellor, Prince Bülow, who had abandoned the Emperor to public scorn by not having the transcript edited before its German publication.[50][51] The Daily Telegraph crisis deeply wounded Wilhelm's previously unimpaired self-confidence, and he soon suffered a severe bout of depression from which he never fully recovered. He lost much of the influence he had previously exercised in domestic and foreign policy.[52]

I would but I think one focusing on Bismarck would be better

>in today's political climate a film about the Kaiser will be overly biased against him
Honestly I really don't think so. The average normie knows Hitler bad but most people don't even know much about Kaiser WIlhelm if they even know who he is at all. It would lend itself much better to a more accurate portrayal. Still though I'd prefer it be made outside of Hollywood

FUCK kaiser shithelm

How rude

No. Historical biopics tend to suck because the media is simply not design to fit with all types of stories and narratives, and the fact that a period film would require a big budget means it would receive a lot of pressure to force everything into certain structures and archetypes in order to be a box office hit, and that would make the movie basically fiction.

It's about time you /his/ retards realize that if you want to get more into figure X or historical epoch Y you need to stop skimming the wikipedia articles and read a proper book.

I don't want a movie on Kaiser Wilhelm because I'm too lazy to read a book you autist I just really wanna see that time period and characters brought to life on the big screen.

>I don't want a movie on Kaiser Wilhelm because I'm too lazy to read a book you autist
Yeah? Name three books.

The Guns of August
Birdsong
Storm of Steel

What is it you're trying to do here exactly?

Blue Max with James Mason and Ursula Andress
Doesn't quite do it and goes nowhere near the Kaiser but is "in the period." And it's a good movie.

thanks

Add 'Iron Kingdom' and 'Kaiser Wilhelm ll: A life in power' by Christopher Clark to that list
