Tons of movies have cashed in on 80s nostalgia and some on 90s nostalgia, but when will we see films and TV try to cash in on the 2000s? What would a period-piece film set in that decade be like?

It's weird that there haven't been more already. Cheesy 80s nostalgia was already a thing in the mid '00s, and we're as far from the 2000s now as they were from the 80s
We'll have to wait until the 2020s for that.
Just watch the Affleck Daredevil Director's cut of course
Aside from changing bands, TV,
its because you can literally just youtube everything from the 2000's on.
It would only be good if it followed some Millennial kids being degenerates like KIDS did with Gen z.
in about 2 or so years as "00s culture" is going strong with /fa/ types right now
the generation which experience the era doesn't want to make films about it. once zoomers get tired of zooming and start seeing what that era had to offer, they'll start making films of it, and then we'll have our nostalgia
>Seeing buckethats take off again.
Gonna be something. Sadbois will be pissed.
Pretty true. I'm firm into 90's nostalgia even though I was born in 94 and hardly experienced it. I think it's a consequence of hitting your late teens/20's and pining for lost youth so the 00's nostalgia will hit like clockwork.
Yes and no. The pre-smartphone early to mid 00s era feels surprisingly distinct. Like I rewatched Sex Drive a few months ago. It came out in 2008 but feels surprisingly dated because the characters used printed out Google maps and I think only one of them had a first gen iPhone.
True I thought it was a shit era and lived through it all, I was 12 in 2000 so I experienced a good bit of the 90s as well and thought it was a better decade.
MOAR
When zoomers get a hold of Laguna Beach and The O.C. they will get right into the studio.
>we're as far from the 2000s now as they were from the 80s
I was 16 in 2000 and feel similar but I have a major soft spot for early 00s pop punk and teen movies.
It will happen as soon as people who grew up in 2000s are old enough to be writers/showrunners. Shitty question
The 00s just doesn't have an iconic look. 00s/10s is like the difference between the 60s and 70s - and since we're still in the 10s it's difficult for us to see the distinction. Rather than being a retro nostalgiafest, a 00s movie would just seem uncool and out of date.
This. There's a cut off somewhere in the mid 00s when people stopped printing directions from Mapquest, and burning CDs.
>What would a period-piece film set in that decade be like?
Film starts out good then suddenly turns to shit.
2009. It’s well-documented that our civilization ended then.
>girls born on 9-11 are gonna be legal to fuck this year
damn i feel old
60/70s had very different looks. 00/10s is just not iconic yet because we are living through it now and the next wacky decade's looks aren't around to contrast with it yet.
I don't want to see a movie about hipster faggots and emo kids
Still waiting for that skaterboi movie based on the song
WHAT THE FUCK WAS AVRIL THINKING LMAO
Yeah I’d say 2009 was the turning point when smartphone adoption rate increased. Then the iPhone 4S in 2011 was the first iPhone to be available on the other major carriers.
Exactly
And set to a greatest hits of trash ass pop punk soundtrack
Sum 41 is also Canadian. Deryck is cooler than the fucking Nickelback guy.
kids romanticizing emo culture like 2000s kids did with 80s pop culture is already a thing, so it’s just a matter of time before more shows and movies pop up with that setting and aesthetic. the emo and pop punk kids are also aging and emo nights at clubs and bars are the new 80s nights.
I honestly did noting of importance in the last decade. I don't mean to turn this into an r9k blog thread, but I dropped out of high school in '08, drifted from all my friends in the ensuing years, and became a shut-in NEET.
I honestly miss the days when I'd spend hours customizing my Myspace page and looking forward to school so I could show it off (and vice-versa) on the crappy school computers. I miss having a scroll wheel iPod (Baby Driver gave me nostaliga feels). I miss Blockbuster. I miss "appointment television" i.e. no Netflix or DVR (my senpai was too poor). Miss having to set up meet up times for kickbacks with friends, having to keep them because no one had phones (maybe we were just poor).
they have been for two years unless you live in a liberal shithole
>tfw still regularly listen to 00s pop punk when running/lifting
I’ll defend it to my grave.
absolute based
I had a samsung flip phone in 2006 that had tons of games, messenger apps, video camera, app store, could stream live tv, play music, type docs. Tons of things modern smartphones can do, it did, albeit shitty. I used that phone from 2006-2011, and used to always watch hockey highlights on it. I dont really have a point, just that "smart phones" in a sense have been around a lot longer than people think.
HEY HEY YOU YOU
I DONT LIKE YER GERLFRIEND
That’s true, especially in Japan where they had flip-phones with smartphone like features way before we got that stuff in the US.
>not having a walkman slide
I used to convert porn (and tv shows) from .avi to .3gp and it played perfectly.
A different time.
I don't remember cellphones being that common though in most of the 00s, everyone mostly just had the standard cord phone in their house, same with computers too they weren't an essential thing.
This. Maybe we grew up in lower classes. I didn't have my own PC until 2005 and a phone until 2011.
I had that famous old monochrome screen Nokia phone in like 2003 as my first cellphone. My first real full color screen flip-phone was in 2006.
Early 00s were all about Nokias, the Nokia 3210 etc.
IM IN TOO DEEP
I feel like no one had a Nokia besides older gen X types and/or your parents gen. They weren't good texting phones and voice/mms was expensive back in the day.
There was nothing distinct or interesting about the 00s. Music was the same shit as it is now even.
Honestly it's sad to me. The 70s vs the 80s were so hugely different in terms of style, music, technology, everything. Butt the 00's vs the 10s? Fucking nothing.
At my age computers were essential by the late 90s. Everyone in my area had high speed internet by 2001. Keep in mind at that point high speed internet was downloading a file @300kb/s vs 56k. It still took 3 or 4 years before megabytes became the norm.
I didnt have my own pc until 2008 for university. Prior to that i "inherited" the family pc in 2001 and upgraded the ram and graphics card for 4 years until about 2005 when it was no longer viable to play new games.
Oh man, are we getting another batch of emo girls to bang?
lmao he's turning into Artie Lange
I knew ppl who had the nokia phones from 2001 onwards. They were basically just house phones with snake and a contact lists. But it was like "damn, you have a cell phone?" My first phone was some black and white jap shit in 2004 that was advanced because i could download midi ring tones.
Im drunk and all i have to say i have an older sister and am old enough to remember her bringing a pager home in 1998 and my parents flipping out accusing her of dealing drugs. Fucking pagers were hot shit technology at one point.
Oh no no no.
That was from several years ago. He’s since unJUSTed himself.
>My first phone was some black and white jap shit in 2004 that was advanced because i could download midi ring tones.
My first phone was a Nokia 3210. Since then it's been all Samsung - fucking Korean shits.
The 00's and 10's are the Internet age. They're more distinct from previous decades moreso than any other time in history, and it'll likely continue that way.
I associate 2000-2004 with Maddox, Newgrounds and Homestar Runner
How many zoomers honestly remember them?
You're asking the wrong dude. We're all mid-30's to early 40's on here.
Most zoomers are too young to remember that stuff. That’s more late 20s to mid-30s boomer territory.
I was born in Jan 2001 and I'm on here
Nostalgia in media usually comes around at the 30 year mark.
>80s had 50s nostalgia
10s had 80s nostalgia
>he missed 9-11
Sad!
>Implying
I'm a GenZer and my whole childhood was Newgrounds and ABS.
>those wet tits
If they don't remember 9/11 or internet culture, then you've proven the point about 00 having no distinction
Joe Cartoon, posting on the Resident Evil fan forums, NG BBS, Legendary Frog
What was the last good era here?
I was born in 1981 and I'm on here
the 2000s didn't really have a unique style.
I want heterosexual turbo-degeneracy to be the norm again. Wet t-shirt contests and short skirts with thongs, not purple hair and affirmative consent, okay? Praise MTV.
what happened to the real avril lavigne
Honestly i'm 30+, i've only had 4 cell phones in my life. The jap shitter, the Samsung i got in 2006 that i mentioned previously, a fucking Blackberry Torch that i used from 2011-2018, and am currently using a Samsung A8 that i got last year. My first "real smartphone". Im impressed b/c for an average tier phone it does 90% of what i do on my laptop.
Anyways I think my point was, i'm satisfied with Samsung products they have always done me well. Fuck me I need a monster.
please god
>It's the year 2000! Time to graduate and start my adult life!
hahahahahahaha
This - when Beavis and Butthead going "boi-oi-oing" or Wayne and Garth going "SHWING" wasn't sexual harassment
it is all spread over this last 19 years, we are living in the same decade in a way
BADGER BADGER BADGER MUSHROOM
The 2000s were a split decade, at least in terms of "kid culture". Bush's first term felt Millennial in terms of cartoons etc while his second term felt more Zoomer.
Not much.
>jan 97
>don't know any of the shit in zoomer
>missed the cutoff by 23 days
I've got several 99s in runescape, bro.
>(((Nostalgia))) appears 20-30 years after whatever is nostalgic ends
>By (((pure coincidence))) the same amount of years it takes for the goys who are nostalgic about whatever to have expendable shekels
In other words, just use your brain.
>Bush's first term felt Millennial in terms of cartoons etc while his second term felt more Zoomer.
Something about this description makes me fucking sad. I'm not blaming him, but something about him taking his second term just changed society.
dont woke the goyim
Yes, I’d agree with that. Bush’s first term was the first presidential election that the graduating class of 2000 was eligible to vote for.
Boy I hope so.
I fucked it up due to my autism back when I was a kid.
Won't make the same mistake twice.
Zoomers will never understand what it's like to see Bush get elected for a 2nd time.
class of 2000 here, but i knew when i got rejected from princeton and cornell that i wasn't elite and i've been phoning it in since then
and everything is nostalgia throwback. i think the internet has shifted things so that everything remains relevant.
>do you feel in charge?
All I remember from the 00's is shitty nu-metal and oversized pants who always ripped and got wet in the winter.
Oh, and lots of cd piracy.
remember when bush was literally hitler?
You were 8-13 in the early zoomer era so you very likely experienced it and are lying about not knowing it. Go watch icarly and listen to justin bieber.
Everyone is instinctively avoiding it because they all know everything is soulless and evil after 9/11
GIB MILK
>when will we see films and TV try to cash in on the 2000s
When zoomers who were 8-18 in the 2000s hit their mid 30s and have tons of disposable cash
Autistic, frigid women did not have a voice back then, cause they could only really write angry letters to the tv station instead of broadcasting to a hate army of other becobwebbed cunts every time somebody steps over their gay, arbitrary little lines
iCarly was actually pretty funny desu
Though I was talking more about elementary kids, not high schoolers. The people in elementary during bush's first term were mostly late millennials, and shows like Old spongebob and Johnny bravo were popular, while those in elementary during his second term were mostly early zoomers, and there you saw a shift to completely different shows like Chowder and Flapjack.
>gold star mom camping out in front of his ranch in texas
>continual media coverage of her protesting the war
>obama elected
>....
That's the rub. None of us have that kind of scratch.
What a time to be alive.
1982 baby here. Now that I’m going into my late 30s I’m definitely nostalgic for 1999-2004. Blink-182, The X Games, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, etc.
How do you figure? Prime "80s" shit is like 83/84 to 86/87, so really we should be looking at 2022 and onward for prime 2000s nostalgia. Although you would expect it to come sooner the way everything is rushed, undercooked and overproduced these days
i highly doubt it or at least you'll be in your 40+ by the time it happens
almost every single underage right now is doing the whole slavshit/instathot tier stuff
You mean this?
This is from like 1993, dumbass.
>emo nights at clubs and bars are the new 80s nights.
>Theme nights at bars
Just this being a thing alone makes me want to kill myself
If it means I get to see girls dressing like this again, fucking sign me up.
This is gross lol.
Just saying how it is. I barely recognize anything later, but I definitely can pinpoint Incredibles, Star Wars prequels, pokemon/yugioh, gamecube, spiderman, so on. I even had one of those colorful macs way back. What you're forgetting is that the list is for kids.
Exactly, what a time to be alive. saved by the bell ran from 1989 to 1993, and if you look at OP this is fine.
mid 00s scene girls >>>> modern day instathots
>Miss having to set up meet up times for kickbacks with friends, having to keep them because no one had phones (maybe we were just poor
No you werent just poor, this was a real thing whether your friends had phones yet or not, there was still a collective sense of respect and dignity. Now everyone does whatever they want and they're all addicted to social media and use tinder and nobody cares about anything. I'm not just depressed, I am 100% certain the world is significantly shittier than it was 10 15 years ago.
I think you need to re-read the OP, bro.
So in y'all oldfags' opinion, what was the last good era on this pic?
Who are ur faves m8
sure...
If you don't fuck them you'll end up missing them again.
Yea newgrounds & ebaumsworld were the shit, you could find several good, new flash games literally every few days for like 2 or 3 years straight. And of course Yea Forums. Mid 2000s were the golden age of the internet
t. 26yo
You're right.
For me it was stickpage
Went to their show couple months ago. They all seem broke and desperate for money, hence the "reuniting" tour. Fuckers didnt even play in too deep. He also looks fresh outta rehab now.
Yeah remember when twitter was "hey i made a cupcake! you can call me cupKate, cuz my name is kate haha:DD" and now its "HUAUUAUUUAA HUAUAAAAAAU HEEHEE OOOOOO CHURK CHURK CHURK"
>we're as far from the 2000s now as they were from the 80s
All I have to remember me of this era is thousands of now useless CDs.
1982 guy here. Late millennial, sixth gen console era was pretty good imo. Nickelodeon, Disney and Cartoon Network were all still putting out really good animated content as opposed to the absolute garbage live action sitcoms that later came to dominate Nick and Disney.
Yeah but a fuckton of things has happened since the 2000's
Back then normal things were mainstream like being attracted to girls. Now that's sexist and gets you attacked by the twitter mob and your life ruined.
And now Zoomers are so depraved that just fapping to regular girls isn't enough. Now Zoomers have mainstreamed fetishes like pedophillia, fatness, and farting by rebranding them as "loli", "thicc", and "Braap", and this stuff is increasingly becoming mainstream on Facebook, Funnyjunk, Knowyourmeme, Twitter, etc.
If this is what she looked like in 2015 imagine at her prime
my god
those cds will start to decay in a few years, so much for optical storage, at least official music cds are better made
Yeah that's when a large percentage of the US population finally accepted that elections are a total sham and thereby lost faith in the system. As a nation, we've been rapidly declining in many ways since then
What?
The people on the internet are all weirdos.
All normalfags think all these autists obsessed with politics are insane.
I still listen to bands like Linkin Park and Evanescence and I think their music is a lot deeper than is given credit.
Also I can't believe Chester has already been gone for 2 years.
Blink, New Found Glory, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Yellowcard and early Fall Out Boy are all in regular rotation on my gym playlist.
>Anyone but the .0001% having disposable cash in five years
Good one m8
It was fairly pleasant if you were young then, but when you compare the 2000s to the 90s and 80s they aren't that interesting culturally.
Like this.
(it starts with)
ONE THING
I DON'T KNOW WHY
same bro, same. i just found an old evanescence DVD of mine and i might go ahead and watch it here in the next couple days
early millennial/gen y culture, here\I miss pete and pete. I miss hot summer days spent in the frigid air conditioned house playing donkey kong country
Born 95, core gen Y and late gen Y. I remember my younger cousin liking garbo like chowder and ben 10 but I never liked it. To be honest it's hard to tell because things like cartoon air dates vary wildly depending on the country
ironed hair never looked good
Dont recall, I'm sure it was fantastic though
I miss my friends.
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day, the clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
I was in high school during 2016, people literally SCREECHED in the halls after the election. A good amount were sobbing during class too.
Most people braposting are just meming, and there's nothing wrong with fucking the youngest women you legally can. And thick is good but yeah too many whales in America right now.
THIS WOUNDS, THEY WILL NOT HEAL
On her it did, clearly.
The other user made a great point that you can really divide the 00s by Bush’s two terms. First term was the beginning of high speed internet becoming common, the original iPod release, 9/11, early internet culture, etc. His second term saw the rise of Wikipedia and YouTube, the original iPhone release, early meme culture and was capped off by the start of a huge economic recession.
I think it looked nice on her.
Wake up! Grab a brush and put on a little makeup!
Didn't look out below
Watch the time fly right out the window
Trying to hold on, didn't even know
I wasted it all just to
watch
you
go
Me too, man.
Why do people become so boring when they get married / have kids?
It's like everything that made them "them" just disappears.
Because you can't keep being a young, crazy guy when you are trying to be an example to your kids.
I was initially weirded out by how different my father acted when he was at home and when he hanged out with his friends until I understood that.
I kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart. What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of the time I TRIED SO HARD.
>playing burnout paradise while the song girlfriend was playing
It might have been a shit game compared to Burnout Revenge but still.
So why did SJWs and identity politics explode hugely around 2013-2014? Before then, they were barely noticeable, but since 2013-2014, they're everywhere. Is this proof we all died in 2012?

It starts with one thing
I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
Didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on, but you didn't even know
Wasted it all just to watch you go
I kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me
Will eventually be a memory of a time when
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind
I designed this rhyme
To remind myself of a time when
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised it got so
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me in the end
You kept everything inside
And even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
It hurts.
They actually started ramping up insanely in 2008. It was a combination of iphones giving retards, pocs, and women access to the internet when previously they were too dumb to figure it out and a newly elected race baiting president who encouraged the shit out of them.
>tfw you were never a qt 3.14 girl's sk8r boi
>Tfw remember playing Tony Hawk games with my friends and listening to Good Charlotte
the objective(and im not a lefty) was to ruin any chance for poeple to develop a class consciousness, genital politics and opression ladder is incredible divisive for a society even more than going full bolchevike
Nice digits but gay, linkin park sucks, linkin psrk always sucked, stopped shilling shitty music
A movie could focus on emo/myspace/scene culture that exploded for like 5 years
the mayan calendar was right, just not the way we expected it.
*minus the bear starts playing*
Thank god MySpace was wiped.
I'd die of shame if my "gothic poetry" was still out there.
>characters are high the entire movie, having sloppy, nervous sex every 5 minutes
Oh shit I completely forget about this band
Myspace still exists.
that's pretty surprising
I think Obama getting re-elected empowered them.
The culture war was pushed by the CIA in order to make civilians blame each other for the faults of the world instead of greedy, powerful people.

Yeah, but everything was deleted like 8 years ago. They started from scratch when the site changed.
Similarly, rewatch Tropic Thunder and see how dated it feels now.
They accidentally deleted all their 15 year old data just recently tho
when is facebook getting wiped
It only got bit in like 2012 onwards really and it was extremely quick
>pre-smartphone early to mid 00s era
>Sex Drive
>2008
2008 is late 00s and I feel the modern era was already in place by then. Compare 2008 to 2004, 2008 felt a lot slicker and more advanced to me at the time, while 2004 seemed archaic.
She was always an airhead and never stopped being one.
That's not really compatible with being a mom.
And for some reason, she always dated way below her league.
will i be surprised? I don't want to invest time in anything with low surprise potential
But you really need to listen to me
Because I'm telling you the truth
I mean this, I'm okay! (Trust me)
I found the other day a picture of me from 2006. Eyes all swollen and red because my emo fringe hair was poking them. I still remember the feeling. What a retard.
never thought about that
Probably why all the emos inmediatly started combing it to the side.
they are long overdue, and for some reason it looks like they fall out of favour with the intelligentsia
Yes but movies from around 2008/2009 act as odd time capsules because they came out just before smartphones had hit mainstream adoption rates and social media as we know it now was still in its infancy.
FIGHT YOU FAGGOTS

Oh you’ll slip up one of these days. I’ll be right there waiting to nitpick your post to death, buddy. Just you wait.
The one that datamined the most.
God wears Gucci and The Devil wears Prada
Totally Spies, Kim Possible, Xena, Buff (although my waifu from that show was Dawn)
My sister also watched Charmed, but I found that show boring as hell.
Spears.
If you don't recognize this slut you are a zoomer.
I'd just like to thank Avril for my tomboy fetish.
>but when will we see films and TV try to cash in on the 2000s
No one has nostalgia for such a shit time period.
Everyone has nostalgia for the time period when they were young, no matter how bad.
>the Black Parade still doesn't have a film adaption
she got all sweaty on stage I bet
>kickbacks with friends
Well you can't be too fucking old if you're using that zoomer af word for house parties.
Zoomers call house parties “kickbacks”?
Yep. They do these combo house party/sleepover/dinner party/video game night things.
Too soon.
>80s nostalgia show for 2000s
>90s nostagia show for 2010s (Goldbergs' spinoff "Schooled", Fresh of the boat)

That's actually her... wow
