Is this shit actually good or nah?
Is this shit actually good or nah?
terrible, discovery is even worse
It's unoriginal trash. Watch Star Trek Discovery instead
There are a few good episodes. Some huge stinkers though, like the most recent episode.
The smoking side-story was alright though.
It's very comfy.
Not as good as STD but alright.
just watch TOS instead
It's basically TNG eras Star Trek, except the crew is always acting like they're off duty and some of the plot elements are replaced by more "comedic" ones.
Case in point, instead of
>Exotic crew member must return to his home planet to undertake a deeply spiritual act that is part of their culture and in which they engage every X year
We get
>Bortus, the exotic alien must return to his home planet to undertake a deeply spiritual yearly ritual... Which is taking a piss, which his species only does once a year
Also, instead of
>Crew member engages in their hobby on the holodeck but something goes wrong and now the holodeck simulation causing issues for the ship
We get:
>Bortus cannot move past something his life partner did in the previous season which strained their marriage, and now his frustrations have turned into addiction to holographic porn and he accidentally infected the ship's mainframe with a trojan that he got from a custom porn manufacturer
Really, most of the especially weird stuff happens with Bortus because he's a natural straightman.
He's basically Spock and Worf rolled into one, so he's precision crafted to be the butt of all jokes.
Other episodes however, especially ones centred around Isaac (an android) are just straight up Star Trek episodes with comedic undertones that only come out in small ways, like one of the crew members pranking him and then him 'pranking them back' without understanding the concept.
I'd give it a shot if you like TNG era (TNG, DS9, VOY) Star Trek.
The worst episode so far is one where they infiltrate a Krill ship (their Romulans/Klingons). That's where the comedy is the most heavy handed, but aside from that one time it's usually much more restrained. Plus some things set up there pay off in later episodes, so it's not entirely useless.
based and bortuspilled
I actually really like it. I’m not going to claim it’s great television, but it feels refreshing for reasons I can’t really explain. The sci-fi storylines are actually tackled really well in my opinion. There’s a gender reassignment episode in S1 that totally BTFO your expectations considering today’s society. If you aren’t a stick in the mud, some of the humor is genuinely funny. I’m probably in the minority but I actually think all the characters are so well written, so much so that they don’t have any business being that good on a show like this. Unfortunately, the waifu character left this season. The doctor is my least favorite mostly because she’s just a horrendous actress. All in all It’s a nice guilty pleasure show.
It has great potential
Remember that STTNG episode where picard learnt to play the flute? Orville tries to do that each episode. IMO it needs more space style episodes, a bit less personnel stories
I guess they want to develop each character
the bortus heavy second season is why I don't watch the show anymore
Well depending on when you stopped, you might have missed out on a glorious Isaac centred two parter.
I watched the 2 parter, but I saw it went back to relationship cancer
Why won't this show do a show about exploring new worlds
>Seth McFarlane
>Is this good?
Answered your own question.
>relationship cancer
Are you 12 years old, new or both?
Out of curiosity, what do you think was the point of the post you replied to?
Hah!
Its way better than std. jesus.
Its crap.
It's an enjoyable show. Some episodes definitely better than others.
STD is just cancer and anyone here suggesting that is either trolling or a shill.
Bortus has a sex lagoon.
It's not. The people here who say it's good are memeing.
STD is a divisive show, long-time Trek fans hate it. Zoomers brought up on Mass Effect seem to be more generous.
However Orville is pretty universally recognised as terrible. It's a parody that tries to emulate the style of a 90's TV show, which makes it feel out of date. Its "best" episode of the season was a literal Buck Rogers-style plot of blowing up evil robots before they blow up the good guys. People who say its amazing or 'real Star Trek' are just making memes, it's just more derivative dumb fun from Seth.
