Why is the dialogue in Zahler films so retarded and artificial? .

>It's been a long intermission

Nobody talks that way JFC. None of the actors sounded believable in their scenes.

It's better than boring writing in every other movie.

He's got a style and it's consistent. You don't have to like it.

>Believable
nigga his movies are slight parodies of 70s crime and grindhouse movies (but actually good) they aren't meant to be hyper realistic.

It's at barely any theatres, just watch it on Apple TV

How did Vaugn's character die? I thought the white bish only shot the bulletproof vest with the 9mm

Dragged across concrete is not a parody. It takes itself very serious.

this is actual dialgoue from the film verbatim:

>Being branded a racist in today's public forum is like being accused of communism in the '50s whether it's a possibly offensive remark made in a private phone call or the indelicate treatment of a minority who sells drugs to children.

>The entertainment industry, formerly known as the news, needs villains. There's certainly nothing hypocritical about the media handling every perceived intolerance with complete and utter intolerance.

a little heavy handed no?

I loved how they never showed the faces of the two robber sidekicks. They were the incarnation of pure evil.
I wasn't a bug fan of the last 5 minutes and I've thought the black lead were not that well written.

Other than that, it was a fantastic movie. I was on the edge of my seat for 2 and a half hours and I haven't felt this much of an excitement from a movie in a long time.

Yeah point blank

She shot him in the side, between the plates of the vest. Right before she said the name of the movie.

Why did she obey and turn hostile? She could've just flee. I know she was theatened but she could've just called the police.

They took her id and asked if anyone loves her for a reason. Those were the people they threatened, and they probably sent (or pretended to send) a message to kill her loved ones if she didn't obey.

I've never needed to watch a new movie before, i mostly would go on wikipedia and look at movies by the year and note down which ones look good and interesting
Always leaves me with enough room that i dont need new stuff but this thing isnt released anywhere and i dont want the story spoiled for me, the longer i wait the better chance of that though. Best movies ive ever seen are ones where i have no real idea of the plot. This directors first two were watched this way, not masterpieces but enjoyed having no idea what was to happen next

Why was this movie basically banned?
all the white men died while the nigger won in the end.

I didn't get the outrage either. I was expecting it to be super racist, but it wasn't even close.

Yes, but illustrates the character's point of view perfectly, without losing time or going in circles.

It's pretty boring desu

the way it was weaved into the script is kinda strange to me. It feels like someone just copied and pasted a first year college students essay. People don't talk like this it feels unnatural and weird

Yea, but it's a stylistic choice for S.Craig. Like Vaughn's character saying "anchovies" or them saying ''he's cast iron". Or in Cell Block 99, where the cops say "Wanna give him some justice?".
The particular line you've described is more political, no doubt, but considering the character who says it, I'd say it's in the same vein as the others. It's this kinda blunt to the point conversation, and in accord to the character.

the thriller aspect was top fucking notch and carried the film

however the overlong subplots, pretencious dialogue, and stupid decision near the end let the film down how fucking obvious was it that something would go wrong with that woman crawling right toward them

still a 8/10 but zahler needs an editor. Cell Block 99 also had a 20minute overlong intro sequence

basically if zahler just sticks to the thriller genre instead of trying to do more, then these films would be so much better off

wtf was the point of that pontificating bank manager.

This was my first film from this director but I hear it's a consistent style of dialogue throughout all his movies. Maybe it just takes some getting used to but it just feels a bit on the nose. Film is a visual medium after all it feels a bit lazy to spoon-feed the audience like that

He also needs a proper DOP.
Shots sometimes looked downright amateurish and color grading was way off between consecutive shots in the same scene.

"stylistic choice" is a bullshit excuse

too many characters speak in this extra way. you can sense the writer coming through a mile away.

really? I felt the shots very well done. felt very cinematic and steady.

the colour grading and shot choice in Cell Block 99 were seriously 10x worse. This was a bigggg jump up.

Have u seen 99?

No doubt, user. It's definetely weird getting used to his films, both in special effects and dialogue. But it's VERY consistent through and through. I'd reccommend Brawl 99 and Bone Tomahawk as well, with Tomahawk being his "more accessible" film.
And I don't think it's spoonfed, more like defining the character clearly (depending on the character, of course) compare Mel's character's lines to Vaughn's and you'll see what I mean.
Some anons pointed out it play like a funeral.

I have and I felt like it was passable there since that entire movie had a very grindhouse kind of feel to it.
This time around he aims a bit higher but the amateurish look persists.

BT looked very good, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Hdonline dot eu

>Some anons pointed out it play like a funeral.
Interesting take, especially with her desk covered in flowers with a picture of her.

They criticised minorities and blacks at two points, for a grand total of 15 seconds. That's literally all it takes now to be censored by kikes.

I'd like to see him tackle another period piece.

what did you think of the colour grading in 99? i fucking HATED it. everything was a drab blue. thats like a #1 sign of a ametuer imo. "just make shit blue and cold to match the tone!!"

Concrete at least had colours and shades and whatnot. way more pleasing

i havent seen Bt in ages. might go back to it sometime to see how it compares to 99 and conrete

why did they waste time cutting off the bank managers balls after they got the gold

And?

But that's what I don't get. How is showing a character being racist itself racist? I thought it might have been the realistic scenario of the group of black thugs terrorizing Mel's daughter, but that was only a few seconds as well.

the situation escalated after they blasted Jennifer's face off, and they delivered on the promise

seemed like a waste of time for guys who appeared to be so much about efficiency

one other thing that bugged me about this movie was the video game tier gun action. every character has auto aim on and shoots with pin point accuracy one handed from the hip.

The funny thing is they didn't even directly criticize them. Even showing what everyone knows, that living around blacks isn't a utopia and that minorities get preferential treatment from the media, is a crime worthy of destroying a work and its creators publicly.

It's just jewishness plain and simple. They dont want anybody having any wrongthink so they shut it down at the source.

i was kind of disappointed there wasnt more about the goggles guy. he seemed more interesting than henry

The bank manager lied about not having staff in the back. They stated they would castrate him if it turned out he was lying about that fact

>in this extra way
ebonics detected

Attached: 1553558168210.gif (607x609, 754K)

you understood him, didn't you?
nigga
I was hyped up about him too until he proved to be a little bitch under fire.

I was also wondering if all this director's films are this long? I don't mind long run lengths Assassination of Jesse James is one of my favorite movies of all time but is a 3 hour run time really justified here? I know some will claim it's like classic movies from the 70s in its length but outside of a few rare exceptions this really wasn't the case even back then. It's a buddy cop drama not Das Boot

yeah i guess. though i dont think we actualy find out.

pretty ballsy of the manager to lie about that tho. if he did lie though, surely the peeps in the back would have called/msged the cops??..

The film is a grindhouse film, often in a heightened reality that clearly isn't our own.
Also, this is the fourth time today I've seen the >literal dialogue, even though it's two fucking lines
and the webm of a single effect, both of which fit the grindhouse soul of the film, get shilled here. Fuck off

/pol/ shilling this movie for days has guaranteed I will never watch it

I mean it's shit, no doubt, but it's way worse to watch Concrete and have the color grading not match up between consecutive shots repeatedly. That's just REALLY sloppy shit.
That means that they either rushed the editing/postproduction or simply didn't care.

>muh pol
Then don't, no one cares

>both of which fit the grindhouse soul of the film
The issue I have is that the film aims for gritty realism for the most part so the campy dialogue feels very out of place. I thought the film was very good it just seemed very conflicted at times in regards to what style it was going for.

Is it true Mel Gibson is playing Mario in the Mario Bros biopic?

Yeah we don't actually know for sure. I just kinda came to that conclusion because the vibe he was giving seemed very off to me. Like it wasn't beneath him to lie to his employees or to men that wanted to rob his place of business.

All we can really do is speculate and come up with our own little backstories as far as that scene is concerned. A lot of shit went down off screen, it's fun to kind of fantasize how it played out.

you can't turn off the lights on dualshock4. The only option is to dim the light, but it barely makes a difference.
If you have to include a video game scene, at least try. You've had literally 4 straight decades of this type of feedback and as long as you ignore it, I will keep shitting on your shitty movie with shitty attention to details.

No, just like 90% of the people on this board who bitch about movies. I at least get the hatred for capeshit and other big stuff cause it sucks the life out of everything else those weekends. This is just another VoD film

And really, what did that dumbass think was going to happen when the police showed up?

>Dude who fucking cares if they don't talk like people irl you fuckin brainlet retard
Why do you throw a fit when people are leveling legit critiques against this film? The heavy handed dialogue is a valid source of complaint. No one says it has to be like real life the issue is in the delivery and on the nose nature. It feels like a Sorkin script in some scenes. Try to actually engage in some discourse instead of calling everyone a brainlet retard. nu-Yea Forums can't into film discussion

After seeing stuff like Only God Forgives. The eccentric parts of Zahler's dialogue really doesn't bother me in the slightest. Obviously it doesn't reflect real life conversations, but I wouldn't say it ruins the quality of the movie for me.

>tfw you can take out the light cable to disable them

I noticed this right off the bat. This was unforgivable, Zahler is a fucking hack.

Gotta see it. Im so tired of the soulless, formulated hollywood movies like marvel shit and social marxist nonsense. This movie seems like a break in the trend in that the story actually seems interesting and not rehashed a million times already.

>tfw you get your hand and fingers blown off and dont scream or grunt at all

carpenter took it like a champ

Pretty much this.

I liked the movie except for the part where based Mel didn't say the word.

These handful of low budget limited release b movies are some of my favorites to come out in recent years. Last year it was Upgrade, this year, it's Dragged. There's a charm to them that these big Hollywood productions can't really achieve for me.

>Likewise

how the fuck did they knock over the van at the end with their car? didn't they mention that thing was outfitted with protection like a fortress?

the white guy better win in the next movie he makes or I'm dropping this director

there's tons of interesting films if you'd bother to look beyond hollywood trash

Zahler is a novelist, the entire screenplay was written in this heavy handed literary style. It's a stylistic choice, get over it.

If it's a choice on his part that's fine but it doesn't mean it can't be criticized

based

is this really how nu-Yea Forums views films?

>"Don't crash the liver, it fucking stinks, especially a nigger's liver."
Seriously, how did he know this?

they didnt fortify it to be knock proof

Well you could assume that he might've popped a black guy's liver before while cutting him open, hence why he would say this to the other guy in an attempt to stop it from happening because of his previous knowledge and experience.

I used to say a VPN wasnt really needed but a buddy of mine got a letter in the mail telling him to cut it out, If you’re torrenting big hollywood stuff that may have a tracker on it I guess a VPN is a good idea, but not a complete need. Thats why there is an advantage to streaming it I suppose.

People not being able to go into movies clean these days is just getting worse and worse. I had this friend when I was young, and he was smarter than me even though I snapped him out of it and he's different now, but he always wanted to know what would happen next in a movie without watching it and constantly spoiled shit for other people when he knew what happened. He's completely different now that he's older but I can't tell you how much I hate that kind of shit. So many people are such faggots.

Mel should have survived. Fuck, he did everything by himself and that nigga man just stole it from him.

He didn't steal anything Mel tried getting fresh with him and got outplayed. Simple as

You're talking to the wrong people

Where can I play Shotgun Safari aka hunting niggas in their habitat

The whole thing being armored likely made it even more top-heavy than a normal van.

STREEET CORNEEEER FEEEELINEEEES

>Mel tried getting fresh
Not wanting him to keep blackmail footage was the only move. Most blacks would burn through their money within 2 years and then they'd hit up Mel for more and Mel knew that.

I'm not saying Mel wasn't justified he was just outplayed fair and simple. He knew the risk he was taking

The thing is, while the black guy said his word was good and it basically turned out to be, how could you possibly blame Mel for wanting him to hand over the video as part of the deal. I mean yeah, the guy explained reasonably that it was his insurance policy but how could you possibly blame Mel for not wanting that information erased at that point when they were both together and about to have it all finished. He didn't trust the black which could be a fault, but the black was completely unwilling to compromise at all outside of determining the share of the gold.

Honestly, it was his desire to be fair and merciful that got him killed. If he had just shot that spook instead of trying to get the video back, he would have won.

fantastic writing and dialog

But the spook did right by him so Mel was technically in the wrong despite never being able to know that himself with certainty

That's the thing though Mel was justified I probably would've done the same but the black guy did the right thing in the end

He really didn't. He gave Mel's family a pittance compared to what he kept. Mel wasn't in the wrong to ensure that he couldn't be blackmailed. The spook was paranoid. The fact that Mel didn't just shoot him and instead just pointed a gun at him should have been all the proof he needed.
And what the fuck was Mel going to do that the spook needed insurance? Stay on the force? Start an investigation to catch the only guy who knew what actually happened?

Technically yes, but to him the black guy was just a violent and murderous bank robber.
To have him leave with video evidence like that was unacceptable.

Like Mel said, the phone can be hacked or misplaced or shared or whatever. It can even happen 10 years down the line by accident.

That shit needed to be disposed of immediately.

Meh, directors a hack but Mel and Vince were good

Because he's an artificial person who likes ultraviolence

>It's almost like movies aren't real life
Do you have a single source to back this up?

>He really didn't. He gave Mel's family a pittance compared to what he kept
What do you expect for him to go out of his way to deliver 60% of the gold to Mels family? How would he get it to them? Do you even think they'd what to do with stolen gold? The fact he felt obligated to send them what he did I think is awesome. Seemed like more than enough for them to live on for a while

>Mel wasn't in the wrong to ensure that he couldn't be blackmailed
I said Mel was justified but his assumption turned out to be false. Again though there is no way he could've known this

>but his assumption turned out to be false.
You don't know that. You don't know what would have happened if Mel had lived and could be blackmailed. And like the other poster said, even if the spook didn't intentionally leak the video, it might come out through other means. It was crazy to demand to keep that. As I asked before, what scenario did the spook envision where he'd need insurance against Mel?

>As I asked before, what scenario did the spook envision where he'd need insurance against Mel?
the black guy knew just as much about Mel as Mel knew about him. As far as he knew he was a crooked cop willing to kill for profit. Can you blame him for wanting some assurance against someone like that? You can't blame him anymore than you can blame Mel for being suspicious. It goes both ways.

> Mel Gibson Blinking while firing a gun.

>basically banned
wtf are you talking about user

It's stylized Neo noire realism

Just get into an easy private tracker.
It isn't rocket science you doublenigger

>As far as he knew he was a crooked cop willing to kill for profit.
So this cop who just chose not to kill him is going to come after him well after the fact? What's to stop him from doing the same to Mel? That theory is ridiculous.

>So this cop who just chose not to kill him is going to come after him well after the fact?
I did not suggest that. With Mel being a cop you don't know what he could do. He can come after him for the rest of the gold.

Let me ask you something do you think the black guy was completely unjustified in wanting to keep the tape? You think he had no reason to act suspicious? Would you have just handed it over if you were in his shoes?

>Let me ask you something do you think the black guy was completely unjustified in wanting to keep the tape?
Yes. They were both in the same boat, having to trust each other. Asking Mel to risk that video somehow coming out, which Mel clearly explained, was totally unreasonable.
Paint for me the scenario where Mel comes after the spook.

This is the moral of the story.

Well dude neither of them did the right thing in the end, but you can't really say the black guy was more in the right than Mel. He happened to defend himself as he saw fit but it wasn't right or more right.

Fair enough user I can see your rationale. I think suspicion probably took priority in the chappies mind which I can understand considering the situation. Everyone character had their own reasons for doing what they did which makes sense from their point of view.

>describing unrelated things as "jewishness"
Yikes. Have sex ASAP

The director of the movie is jewish you dumbshit

Picking out that 4 hour old comment to kvetch about is pretty jewish.

If you don't understand why a former black convict from the hood would be suspicious of crocked cops then you don't understand the character

As I already explained, it's irrational to think Mel would let him keep the tape because there isn't a reasonable scenario where he could use it. Go on, paint me the scenario where the video comes into play.

It was good besides 2-3 bizzare scenes and I find it hard to believe that the robbers got away soo easily, I mean they just stole a lot of gold and blasted like 8 people and they stayed in the same vehicle during like a 1-2 hours drive and there were no cops and helicopters at all?? And the way the partner dies is fucking stupid, Mel's character was shown to be very observant and experienced and he didn't find it sudpicious at all that a lady hostage was able to kill 3 proffesional criminals? He literally stayed completely silent during that scene, it just felt so off.

Besides that, it was a pretty solid movie, 7/10

>it's irrational
He was acting on paranoia not rationality.

Did he get dragged across concrete? I assume someone had to. Is he getting revenge for someone else being dragged across concrete?

Lmao

Attached: 1553387691252.webm (980x408, 2.86M)

Then you admit that he was wrong to insist on keeping the video, so what the fuck are you even arguing? I never said he shouldn't be suspicious. I said he was in the wrong in not deleting the video.

Should've trusted the nigga.

Guess I need to watch it now.

>Yes, but illustrates the character's point of view perfectly, without losing time or going in circles.
that's literally what every edgy white cuckservative has been being trained to whine about for the last 5 years. Bunch of uppity rich white gay fascism propaganda. "Oh no I get in trouble for whining about jews and niggers when I'm drunk! IM BEING OPPRESSED!"

So embarrassing.

I liked it but I wished the nigger didnt win.

Good goy

All these ppl in the thread b like
>wahh the writings weird
>wahh it’s unrealistic
>wahh the nigger won

Try to keep a few things in perspective. Zahler has said that he played RPGs and D&D a lot as a kid and it inspires his writing. For example character X encounters problem Y, character X must roll 5 or above to win. You could literally write his scripts with dice rolls. Mel nailing headshots, rolling 20s. Mel fucking up his play to delete the video, rolled a 3. It’s all luck and that’s what makes Zahlers films good.

As for the writing I really like it. It’s hit or miss but it’s always a bit more interesting for someone to say “fuck off” but in a totally weird and roundabout way. I really enjoy these films and I hope he makes a lot more in the future.

Also remember that essentially Mel and Henry were in the same predicament. They both had loved ones in similarly shitty circumstances, thus it was pretty understandable for each side wanting to protect themselves.

>now using "u mad" like he's not just being a moron

That's probably not too far off. I once got seriously injured as a 9yo kid. Didn't even cry because my body went into full wtf mode (guess it was shock), totally ignoring that I was missing quite a chunk of flesh. It barely registered in the first couple hours. It did in the couple weeks after that though.

I thought that gun looks sick as fuck so I looked it up on gun broker and the cheapest one is over 2 thousand dollars.

It's on fucking Amazon. 3 dollars to rent.

But I want to see it at the kinoplex

Yeah I dunno, I was still there, body just starts to throw out a shitload of adrenaline and such at you and you kinda ignore that you're seriously injured because it doesn't actually really hurt. At least that's what it was like for me.

At least they got the controller itself right. If this were any other fucking director they would probably be using GameCube controllers or some shit.

I’m reading one of his books right now, normally I wouldn’t read something like this but Zahler is my favorite filmmaker of the 10s so I decided I should give it a chance. It’s honestly pretty good, one of the segments in particular reminded me of a scene from Blood Meridian
