It requires more than a test. In that exact same scene he mentions how he's only in the school because he was picked in a lottery of sorts that is clearly an outreach program. It doesn't matter though because he's really just frustrated that he's been separated from the school and friends he is used to. The movie doesn't paint the school in a negative light, the teacher that gets some screen time is shown to be kind and understanding, and he meets his best friend for life at the school (his roommate).

Its not the same Spider Gwen as in the comics, just like its not the same Miles as in the comics. In her universe Peter is way older than her and they were friends. She kills her best friend and has trouble letting people in. At the end her and Miles become friends. They never have a weird hug or kiss or anything. You're reading way too much into it.
