Am i supposed to have not enjoyed this? Because i really did. It's so visually aesthetic. Sure it does its own thing with the story but so did the 1995 anime, so its not like you can say its not following the true source material. I DO think they should have made everyone who is canonically Asian, Asian though. Nothing will ever top the Manga or S.A.C imo.

I thought it was okay, the hate for it was reddit tier

The hate only came from SJW. This film was pretty fucking cool.

Arise is actually very good. Too bad I don't care about GITS anymore.

I agree with this post but then again I'll like everything with le meme monoexpression japan man in it so I might be biased

It was pretty alright. As far as american anime movies go it was slightly better than Alita and considerably worse than Speed Racer.

I enjoyed it more than BR2049 tbqh.

It's like Lynch's Dune--it strays from the source material, but it is good.

Is he communicating something other than autism with a budduh face to Japanese audiences? He MAKES cool shit but how the fuck did he ever make it as an actor, he seems completely expressionless.

EVERYTHING stays from the source material. In fact of all the media from it, rhe 1995 anime strays the most. S.A.C came the closest to capturing what Section 9 by Shirow was actually all about.

*strays

fuc

I read the manga eons ago, even before I watched the anime; it is all a haze in my head.

He only seems that way because of the accident he had

Not suprised, Shirow likes to go deep autism on the ideas, ethics and mechanics of Cybernetics. Most of it is probably pulled right out his ass and written like it means anything. The Manga Ghost in the Shell 2 makes ZERO sense to a brainlet like me, no fucking idea what the story of that game is.

Oh?

It almost physically hurts to read this.

Does it mean anything to you? The whole fucking manga does this. GITS1 is GOAT, 1.5 was a cool collection of Section 9 stories, but 2 is weird as balls.

Why do people want new adaptations to be as close to the original as possible? You could just watch the original then. The point is that you get extra material about the characters and general environment you like or maybe the story explores parts that you wished were more elaborate in the original. I liked it and saw it twice, first time with my wife and then with my brother.
>make asian people asian
I couldn't care less, anime characters don't really have a race anyway they just have pale skin big eyes and often colorful hair. And I bet not a single actual japanese person gave a shit either, they know it's a western movie so it makes sense to use white actors for pretty ambiguous drawn characters. It was all westernised abgs and white feminists who chimped out about it. Fuck them.

had a serious bike crash which left a side of his face half paralyzed, supposedly it was an attempted suicide

i liked it and liked the idea of a different.
the 90s anime is obviously better.
the only complain i have is scarjo a shit

There's some good stuff in there, but:

>ScarJo is absolute shit as, and horribly miscast as, the Major
>script is some cookie cutter generic Hollywood plot with scenes from the 1995 movie randomly inserted into it because 'member that thing

A huge waste of potential. With a better screenplay and a better lead it could have gone places.

He was a pretty famous TV comedian and then he turned himself into a tough guy

A better comparison would be "respectable," like Tom Hanks.
