Why do directors make worse movies as they get older? Do they stop caring?

Their testosterone lowers so they lose that aggressive, angry attitude of "I'm gonna show the fucking world what's what"

Female directors get better with age for the same reason

not all of them, some directors, like pic related, only got better with time

Why do directors have beards? Does it help them direct?

Some of them just peak very early in their career. There's nothing they can do about it.

>implying his last movie wasn't great

For most good ideas aren't a bottomless well.

It depends, really great directors who had something to say and a genuine passion for their craft like kubrick, Kurosawa, john ford, Truffaut and a few others don't have a drop off with their older films.
Ones like Tim burton who rely on an aesthetic and a formula that was fresh when he was young, but got old, seem to just be going through the motions and unable to change.
Pic unrelated.

While this doesn't necessarily apply to all of them, older directors tend to lose their creative spark as they age with time (see Steven Spielberg & George Lucas).

But couldn't they just get better script writers ? I guess my question is : do they know their new films suck compared to their old ones?
why make a bunch of bad movies when you don't really need the money?

A lot of directors don't actually like to watch films. They just like making them.

What else should they do? Reinventing yourself is hard both in film and irl.

Stop caring, lose their edge and delegate more.

When they start, they don't have the luxuries that come with wealth/fame, so there's a hunger to create something new/different.

As fame/wealth grow, they sink back into what others want and lose the flame.

you were saying?

some are doing it just to attract girls when they are younger. like musicians

>Female directors get better with age for the same reason
lol

The script was 20 years old wasn't it?

Because their dad dies and no longer aware of son’s movies

It’s a good thing people love the franchise enough to overlook all that feminist bullshit

Except he made it 20 years later. Using the technology of a modern era of filmmaking. So point still stands that he's the best old timer.

Burton is a lazy fuck since the last 20 years

It's a mid 20th century leftover when corporate bitches had to shave every day and men who did art and stuff could grow beards.
Nowadays beards are pretty normalized everywhere.

>Steven Spielberg
He's done several great movies in the 2000s and even his average movies would be considered something special if his name wasn't attached to them.

Hard to be motivated when you're a millionaire

Early success leads to a change in lifestyle and a boost in ego. They think anything they touch is gold and forget that they originally had to work painstakingly to craft the original product.

Just saw this on my youtube feed uploaded like an hour ago:

You're trying too hard.
