He was basically the biggest movie star in the world from the mid to late 90s to the late 2000s. Almost all of his movies were box office successes, just putting him as the lead in your film you were guaranteed at least 100 million at the box office. What went wrong was when he started pushing his kids which annoyed people and him not picking better movies to be in.

His downfall started in 2008 but the previous year I Am Legend came out and that was a big hit and The Pursuit of Happyness did really well too. Hell, even Hancock made a lot of money. By the late 2000s people were getting tired of him but it was pushing his son that really annoyed people plus him choosing bad roles in the 2010s.
