He's doing this for George. George had a heavy heart, he couldn't take the heat and sold the franchise. Rian has experienced such hateful lashing from "Star Wars fans", but alas, Rian doesn't care. I think it's pretty problematic, what Johnson's saying.
In 7, we see a planet-sized superweapon destroyed. In 8, the First Order is taking the entire galaxy by storm. What are we to conclude? That fascism is the best form of government, that democracy is pathetic and weak?
The First Order seem to be consistantly better than the Republic - in everything. They have the superweapons, the navies, the warships. Episode 8 could've been Nazi propaganda: Aryan fighter ace being held back by a purple-haired feminist who was possibly the easiest to hate character since Jar-Jar? The hero of republic turned cynic, chewed up and spat out?
Johnson needs to consider what he's representing in his story. Because, at this point it's pretty clear that the glorification of fascism is an integral part of the Sequel Trilogy.
What will we have in Ep9? All-white supersoliders? Another superweapon or supership? Blatant anti-semitism?

I really loved Star Wars when I was a kid, even the prequels. And I still think that KOTOR is one of the best games of all time. I saw TFA in a theater - it was kind of meh, but watchable. But I didn't even bother wasting money on TLJ - just torrented it. And I couldn't even finish it, It's an overall shit movie.
