Peele had all the talent, you could tell from their show.
All the good bits where from him, all the good ideas were from him, Key at best played the clown and mugged for the camera.

Key is a better actor than he is. Peele though is obviously the better writer and director.

This peele was shit on mad tv no memorable sketches and the ones where he played a thug gangster them shits were cringy as fuck

I'm a racist white man and even I had a great number of chuckles at their sketch show. Those negros have some real entertainment value.

Generic sketch show for the most part, with a handful of truly inspired sketches.
It only gained traction online where people would watch the decent sketches and ignore the shit filler.

Chappelle Show > In Living Color >> Key and Peele

Key was always the stand-out on MAD TV, I cant think of much of what Peele did on there other than play Key's sidekick. When they got their own show though it was obvious Peele was the real talent all along. Key mostly just had a lot of energy but all his characters were kinda the same, Peele had way more range between the two of them.

They knew how to throw a ton of money at the sketches but they don't know how to end them and they explain the joke going in to the fucking sketch.

This. They would always have high production value shit that seemed more concerned with being like a movie than being funny. For a sketch show, that is strange.

Measured sketch for sketch there are maybe three to four 'just okay' ones. A new show would have to be like three seasons or less of the funniest shit ever written.

On top of that,

I think they just had to use the full budget allotted to them per season or something. The movie buff valet sketches are great and it's not like those broke the bank.

This. And that counts a lot in the long run because Key learned to rely on his performance skills, which can honestly only take you so far along the road, while Peele was always writing, directing and producing. Stretch that for 10 years (from MadTV to the ending of Key and Peele) and you have two people with completely different skill sets, with Peele ending up with the necessary tools to fulfil the demands for entertainment created by black people that has grown in the past few years. Key on the other hand is still a performer, and an aging, ugly one at that.
