i still can't figure out the rationale behind this movie. of all the animes to adapt, he picked one that is decades old and no one i have ever met ever mentions. i would have expected a big-o adaptation before alita (that would have been awesome; at least there is pacific rim)

The difference between Cameron picking Battle Angel Alita and say GitS 1995 or Cowboy Bebop or AKIRA, is that he watched it presumably in the late 90s, fell in love with this weird goofy OVA, and proceeded to buy the rights to it. It was a project of love, not cashing in. It'd be like if someone had seen Iria:Zeiram or Dirty Pair or Project A-ko or Birdy the Mighty, which I wish was the case as well
