As for films with such high pedigrees, this is one of the worst. Tarkovsky is basically an amateur pretending to be an auteur. Congratulations, Tark you've essentially paved the way for Malick and pseudo cinema. Wondering why actual directors are getting work and wondering why people remember Polanski, Wes Anderson, Bay, Spielberg, Kubrick, Villenueve, Cuaron, Aronofsky. There are no rivals to Tarkovsky in terms of pretension in the male gender, only a female like Katheryn Bigelow could begin to come close. Even Lars Von Trier, an admitted nazi, has more humanity and closure to his filmmaking than the Russian stable boy known as Andrei Tarkovsky.
There is literally zero "pretension" in any Tarkovsky work whatsoever, everything as emotionally direct as it can be with no le symbolism gimmicks. His sole intent was to be as truthful in his expression as possible.

It's as emotionally direct as watching paint dry

>typical soiboy mad because he couldn't understand something and thinks it has deeper meanings you're not supposed to get anything in his movie it's an autobiographic art piece about motherhood, depicting the women that surrounded him, mainly his mother and ex-wife everything else is just pure expression of sentiment, and shouldn't be read as symbols or mind puzzles that you have to "get" stop thinking movies are brain challenges, and open yourself to feel what the art represents even if you don't care about the loose narrative in The Mirror, you can't deny it's visually outstanding and has an amazingly unique storytelling aesthetic

uhmm no, sweaty... It's a visually great movie, unmatched in its approach to form, and with an interesting message you don't have to relate to it thematically in order to enjoy it a lot of it also relates to russian history and identity, and I cannot relate to it, because I'm not russian. But I can certainly appreciate its beauty

>all this freshmen eng lit tier pseud babble How does one relate to something "thematically"? Isn't that the same as just saying you relate to it?
>>all this freshmen eng lit tier pseud babble english is not my mother tongue, but I'm trying to make myself clear >Isn't that the same as just saying you relate to it? not necessarily you can relate to its approach to the theme, for instance, or to its underlying tones, the atmosphere of the movie, the sentiment it evokes, stylistic choices, etc a movie is more than a narrative and a main theme
Jaxon Brooks
why are mommyfags omega level? i have mommy issues and a femdom fetish cuz i got dommed by an older female cousin when i was a teenager.

>a movie is more than a narrative and a main theme Yeah, in Tarkovsky's case it's also shit
