Okay, so I had a pretty surreal experience today and I want to share it. We are now in the 5th weekend, or past it now, with Alita at the box office. I just went for my 11th viewing, I drove another 50 miles to some theater by Fort Lauderdale so I could see the film again at a time most convenient to me. Was worth the effort. Managed to sneak in the Alita can, orange, and chocolate without the employees caring. Now, I expected this theater to be empty. It's the 5th weekend, 10:20 at night on a Sunday. I have never had an empty theater before this, I've always had at minimum 2 other people. But given the demographic of the area and timing, I was ready to be alone. So color me surprised, I show up 10 minutes, early, no one. 5 minutes before start. 2 people come in, okay fine. Then another pair. Then another. Then another. Then another. Before I knew, more than a third of the theater was full, at least 15 to 20 people. What in the fuck. And to make it all the more amazing, it's obvious a number of them had seen the movie before. One guy took a picture of Alita sleeping, two others were giggling and having fun, it was almost like a little viewing party. And the crowd was enthusiastic, like out loud laughing. It was the most involved any audience had been since I saw it literally opening day Friday. I don't know what the heck happened, but 5 weeks after Alita opened, I had my most engaged audience yet. It was fucking amazing. I guess I'm going to see it again to see what kind of crowd I find next. This film has had legs, despite the numbers.

In the manga the Makaku/Grewishka arc plays out to the end before Hugo, Vector or motorball are even introduced.
The first time they meet, Grewishka loses his arm, destroys alita's doll body, gets rekt by the eye punch and then fully dismembered by Ido. He escapes with his head and apparently nimble spinal cord. Then he steals the body of the current reigning colliseum champion (a 1v1 fighting sport where competitors are oversized cyborgs) and goes to Kansas for revenge. Alita already has her berserker body by then. This ends in a prolonged fight in the underground where he is finally defeated for good.
The dog death was added in the OVA, as well as Grewishka's relation to Chiren and Vector.

Also, as for lethality in motorball and in general, the manga often specifically mentions things like brain death and brain destruction, to accentuate that all other parts are essentially replaceable. I went to see Alita. It was the first time I went to a movie by myself. I have terrible anxiety about how people perceive me and I figured that people would just think I was a loser who couldn't get anyone to go to the movies with me. When I went, it was a Tuesday afternoon. Hardly anyone was there. When I bought my ticket, the girl at the counter asked me if I had seen it before and she said how much she liked it. I sort of just started rambling about my anxiety for some reason, I guess becasue I don't know how to make small talk. And she was really nice about it, and said she uses to feel like that too. When I was leaving the theater, she asked me if I liked it and said, "See, going to the movies by yourself is no big deal! So now you can come back all the time!"
Since I wanted to see it one more time, and I kind of goes to see the girl again, I went back yesterday. She wasn't there, it was some guy at the counter. I was sort of mad at first, but then I thought about it. I thought about how Alita would want me to act. Not every human interaction needs to be about romance, right? Since I first met that girl, I had all these crazy ideas of her being my soulmate and crap. Well, what of that guy was my new best friend? So, I tried to make small talk with him about how his day was going and everything.
I don't think he was in the mood to talk. I felt disappointed, but at least I gave it a shot. I mean, you have to start somewhere, right?
Maybe the more I try to talk to people, the better I'll be at it and I won't be such a fucking loser. I mean, I at least have to try.

Have you ever actually been laid?
