Budget of $55 million

>Budget of $55 million
>Soundtrack by the cello goddess, Hildur Gudnadottir
>Phoenix excited for the project because he wanted to do a low-budget character study instead of a "studio movie"

What are the chances this will actually be good?

50/50

what does this have to do with being the joker
couldnt they have just made this movie without tying it to capeshit trappings

there are scoops saying the script is excellent but it is also said that it was rewritten during production so im not sure

They just wanted to make a Joker origin story that didn’t stroke off The Killing Joker for the 100th time.

Re-education camps (Uyghur: قايتا تەربىيەلەش لاگېرلىرى, ULY: Qayta terbiyelesh lagërliri; Chinese: 再教育营; pinyin: zàijiào yùyíng) is a title given to internment camps operated by the People's Republic of China Xinjiang autonomous region's government since 2014.[2] They have unprecedentedly intensified since a hardline party secretary, Chen Quanguo, took charge of the region in August 2016. These camps are operated secretly and outside of the legal system; many Uyghurs have been locked up without any trial or charges being levied.[3][4][1] Local authorities are reportedly holding hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs and Muslims from other ethnic minorities in these camps, claiming the detentions are a bid to counter extremism and terrorism.[5][6][7][8][9]

The Attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941. The attack, also known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor,[11] led to the United States' formal entry into World War II. The Japanese military leadership referred to the attack as the Hawaii Operation and Operation AI,[12][13] and as Operation Z during its planning.[14]

Japan intended the attack as a preventive action to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with its planned military actions in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. Over the course of seven hours there were coordinated Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines, Guam and Wake Island and on the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong.[15] Additionally, from the Japanese viewpoint, it was seen as a preemptive strike.[16]

>Huff Huff (2)
The attack commenced at 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time (18:18 GMT).[nb 3][17] The base was attacked by 353[18] Imperial Japanese aircraft (including fighters, level and dive bombers, and torpedo bombers) in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers.[18] All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four sunk. All but USS Arizona were later raised, and six were returned to service and went on to fight in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship,[nb 4] and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded.[20] Important base installations such as the power station, dry dock, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section), were not attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 64 servicemen killed. One Japanese sailor, Kazuo Sakamaki, was captured. Japan declared war on the United States on 8 December (9 December in Tokyo).

According to historians David M. Kennedy and Lizabeth Cohen:

The sneak attack aroused and united America as almost nothing else could have done. To the very day of the blowup, a strong majority of Americans still wanted to keep out of war. But the bombs that pulverized Pearl Harbor blasted the isolationists into silence. The only thing left to do, growled isolationist Senator Wheeler, was to 'lick hell out of them.' [21]

Its already Kino

>Huff Huff (3)
The following day, December 8, Congress declared war on Japan. On December 11, Germany and Italy each declared war on the U.S. The U.S. responded with a declaration of war against Germany and Italy.

There were numerous historical precedents for the unannounced military action by Japan, but the lack of any formal warning, particularly while peace negotiations were still apparently ongoing, led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy". Because the attack happened without a declaration of war and without explicit warning, the attack on Pearl Harbor was later judged in the Tokyo Trials to be a war crime.[22][23]

>Huff Huff (4)
War between Japan and the United States had been a possibility that each nation had been aware of, and planned for, since the 1920s. The relationship between the two countries was cordial enough that they remained trading partners.[24][25] Tensions did not seriously grow until Japan's invasion of Manchuria in 1931. Over the next decade, Japan expanded into China, leading to the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937. Japan spent considerable effort trying to isolate China, and endeavored to secure enough independent resources to attain victory on the mainland. The "Southern Operation" was designed to assist these efforts.[26]

Starting in December 1937, events such as the Japanese attack on USS Panay, the Allison incident, and the Nanking Massacre swung Western public opinion sharply against Japan. Fearing Japanese expansion,[27] the United States, United Kingdom, and France assisted China with its loans for war supply contracts.

>Huff Huff (5)
In 1940, Japan invaded French Indochina, attempting to stymie the flow of supplies reaching China. The United States halted shipments of airplanes, parts, machine tools, and aviation gasoline to Japan, which the latter perceived as an unfriendly act.[nb 5] The United States did not stop oil exports, however, partly because of the prevailing sentiment in Washington: given Japanese dependence on American oil, such an action was likely to be considered an extreme provocation.[16][25][28]

In mid-1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Hawaii.[29] He also ordered a military buildup in the Philippines, taking both actions in the hope of discouraging Japanese aggression in the Far East. Because the Japanese high command was (mistakenly) certain any attack on the United Kingdom's Southeast Asian colonies, including Singapore,[30] would bring the U.S. into the war, a devastating preventive strike appeared to be the only way to prevent American naval interference.[31] An invasion of the Philippines was also considered necessary by Japanese war planners. The U.S. War Plan Orange had envisioned defending the Philippines with an elite force of 40,000 men; this option was never implemented due to opposition from Douglas MacArthur, who felt he would need a force ten times that size.[32][self-published source] By 1941, U.S. planners expected to abandon the Philippines at the outbreak of war. Late that year, Admiral Thomas C. Hart, commander of the Asiatic Fleet, was given orders to that effect.[33]

>Huff (6)
The U.S. finally ceased oil exports to Japan in July 1941, following the seizure of French Indochina after the Fall of France, in part because of new American restrictions on domestic oil consumption.[34] Because of this decision, Japan proceeded with plans to take the oil-rich Dutch East Indies.[nb 6] On August 17, Roosevelt warned Japan that America was prepared to take opposing steps if "neighboring countries" were attacked.[36] The Japanese were faced with a dichotomy—either withdraw from China and lose face, or seize new sources of raw materials in the resource-rich European colonies of Southeast Asia.

Japan and the U.S. engaged in negotiations during 1941, attempting to improve relations. In the course of these negotiations, Japan offered to withdraw from most of China and Indochina after making peace with the Nationalist government. It also proposed to adopt an independent interpretation of the Tripartite Pact and to refrain from trade discrimination, provided all other nations reciprocated. Washington rejected these proposals. Japanese Prime Minister Konoye then offered to meet with Roosevelt, but Roosevelt insisted on reaching an agreement before any meeting.[37] The U.S. ambassador to Japan repeatedly urged Roosevelt to accept the meeting, warning that it was the only way to preserve the conciliatory Konoye government and peace in the Pacific.[38] However, his recommendation was not acted upon. The Konoye government collapsed the following month, when the Japanese military rejected a withdrawal of all troops from China.[39]

More like 30/70. Todd Phillips is an average director at best. Would've rather seen Scorsese direct it like an epic 3 hour cross between Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall Street and cast daniel day lewis as the joker in full bill the butcher mode.

>'an exploration of a man disregarded by society'"
fuck Yea Forums and Yea Forums will finally merge because of this meme farm.

Honestly, DCEU is genius for these lower budget sub 100M solo pictures rn, Shazam will definitely make a profit and Joker could make 10x its budget, also DC has probably 50 characters that deserve their own movies they could pretty much not even bother with teamups or do very light and logical ones and have a profitable business.

Sounds like trash for manchildren desu.
All capeshitters must hang.

What’s your favorite anime?

>We live in a society

>a super pretentious artsy film starring a fucking comic book character

1 Billion guaranteed

Based, they are trying to make another Logan
In the end of the day it still is capeshit

No idea how good it will be but it will rake in the cash. This superhero shit will never end

It’ll be the first comic book movie that critics love and audiences hate. Audiences are gonna expect a fun villain movie like Venom but they’re gonna get a dark, depressing artsy character drama with no action scenes. WB is apparently prepping an Oscar campaign for it.

Shounen maid kuro kun

Just go watch King of Comedy if you want that you dumb idiot

That other poster isn't me. I don't watch anime.

both of the people who replied to you were pretending to be me. MY favorite animes are yuru yuri, kemono friends, non non biyori, and k-on.

This has the potential of being the next Logan

This is one of those movies where it's just impossible for it to be bad. Not saying it's a guaranteed kino, but all the factors line up and I just know it'll be worth my money to see it in theaters.
Will it flop? I mean it's very low budget in nu-hollywood terms so it would only require like $150m to break even, and I definitely think it'll make that. Probably won't break $500m so marvelshills will call it a failure but fuck that, movies can still be good without a $200m marketing campaign and $100m on 'catering'

we already know the plot based off leaks

>Joker is bastard child of Trump-like Thomas Wayne
>single mom is dying or some shit
>prostitute gf
>he goes crazy on deniros show
>starts a fake mayoral run to make fun of thomas wayne
>ends up inspiring da real joker that killed thomas and martha

it's shit

That sounds solid
Nothing award-worthy but far better than 'arrogant person defeats even stronger version of themself and learns not to be arrogant' a la most MCU shit

...

confirmed not understanding the Joker as a character at all nor how good storytelling works

So mediocre and forgettable flick for people who think their capeshit is deep?

Except we know that the movie has Joker fighting Batman and doing the whole acid fall thing

>man pushed to the edge of sanity by lower-class life stress breaks and becomes the embodiment of chaos
yeah totally infeasible for the Joker

LITERALLY 'we live in a society'

Genocyber

lmfao that's just your dark knight headcanon. Joker shouldn't have an origin. this is stupid. killing joke is stupid. you're stupid. like said, it's literally "we live in a society". why would you wanna watch 2 hours of pretentious filmmaking about a pathetic guy playing V for Vendetta

>Joker shouldnt have an origin
let me correct myself- he should have an ambiguous origin. The only time it should be definitive is when you're contextualizing the Red Hood origin

And why should I believe this guy? If you say because he's "An insider" I'm going to fuck your mother in the mouth

the 60's batmobile was seen on the set
Id wont know if it has anything to do with it tho

I want to kiss Ai~chan on the mouth!

Sounds like kino
But Yea Forums will probably be divided because it's technically capeshit

Its based off alan moores graphic novel called "the killing joke" and is basically the jokers origin story

Attached: joker all a joke.jpg (818x1280, 515K)

>Phoenix excited for the project because he wanted to do a low-budget character study instead of a "studio movie"

they set the matt reeves batman movie in the 90's, the joker movie is set in the 80's. can you say "big budget crossover."

I can see that. This portrayal might strike too close to home aka Pagliacci
