Only in movie stories. The expanded universe (comics, games and cartoons) more than makes up for prequel trilogy.

Same with Alien or Terminator, the original films are now outnumbered by mediocre sequels. Star Wars was the first modern action blockbuster and was a landmark for special effects, I think the only films that come close to that kind of reception are the Avengers series.
