Can anyone speak to the quality of this movie? I’ve heard that it strips out the supernatural elements, and I don’t know how that would work with the text.
It strips away everything that made the play what it is, except for the dialogue. But as a play, the dialogue alone is nothing without presentation and execution. The movie is more concerned with making itself look stylised and pretty than it is with allowing the actors to give bombastic and dramatic performances in line with the spirit of the stage. All of the actors give their monologues in a muted tone with a regretful air of renunciation, and the witches are barely present at all. The orange filter is all that anyone remembers from it. Such a shame that a great cast went to waste.
That's a shame. I was really excited about checking this out on Fassbender alone. Does he turn in a good performance at least?
I think I'll check out the Bad Sleep Well instead.
Fassbender is always good, but much like everyone in the film he delivers his lines as if he's being held back by something.

That is so frustrating. At least we have Patrick Stewart's MacBeth. It's a PBS production, so it doesn't have a huge budget, but it's well worth watching. It really brings out the horror of the original text, and...of course. Patrick Stewart as MacBeth.
>tfw you will never slap tom hiddleston
I will never understand how there are people that don't like listening to Shakespeare's dialogue. So what you want of Whedon's Much Ado, but he keeps a cadence and a beat throughout the production that makes it flow like a song. It's really a terrific adaptation.
Polanski's Macbeth is better if you're looking for something close to the stage play/realism
Probably my next Criterion purchase. That or Olivier's Richard III.
asmr shakespeare
so fucking cute damn it all to hell
Sean Harris as Macduff was a highlight.
Its beaten in every regard by Brannaghs.
Not a fair fight up against Branagh and Thompson.
based sir patrick stewart.
>asmr Shakespeare
That's a good idea
Fucking hell I love Patrick Steward.
Thought she was pretty basic and average. Like 5-6/10.
Then during that sketch.. unf.
Pretending to be a latina actress made her really hot for some reason.
BBC's production of Othello with Anthony Hopkins is my favourite. Bob Hoskins plays a very interesting Iago, where he at times comes off as more mischievous than malignant. And of course Hopkins is great.
she fuck British men so I'll allow it.
brannagh sucks cocks
delet.

I liked it. I liked Titus as well, so don't listen to me.
>not liking Taymor’s Titus
