>Someday? Someday my dream will come? One night you will wake up and discover it never happened. It's all turned around on you. It never will. Suddenly you are old. Didn't happen, and it never will, because you were never going to do it anyway. You'll push it into memory and then zone out in your barco lounger, being hypnotized by daytime TV for the rest of your life. Don't you talk to me about murder. All it ever took was a down payment on a Lincoln town car. That girl, you can't even call that girl. What the fuck are you still doing driving a cab?

Nottin personel Vince

So his dream was to be a killer?
I wouldn't take advice from him.

Society would break down completely if everyone did exactly what they dreamed of. That's the sad reality.

I've always wondered why this scene is so popular. The guy was asking to die when he brought his gun within melee range.

Imagine being killed because you don't know your Miles Davis well enough.

Why didnt Vincent just shoot them in the back?

No sport in it. He gave the jazz guy a chance with jazz so he gave those gun criminals a chance with guns.

This is only one of the many dozens of reasons Collateral is kino.

Because civilians with enough $$$ to buy a gun but zero training imagine this would be how things would go down if they were jumped while they were strapped.

I guess they miss the fact that Cruise practiced this over and over to try and make it as smooth as possible and even then, they had to have the second guy fumble his draw to give Cruise time to sight on him.

The jazz dude was a trick question he wasn't going to let any of them live or he would be fired.

He was trying to avoid unnecessary corpses in his journey.

Didn't know all the details of the situation. It's well established that Vincent is very meticulous and does not kill unnecessarily.

I guess you're forgetting the part where he shoots up a nightclub like he's james holmes

That's what makes it popular. He draws them into a range that's a sure kill after he confirms they are armed and dangerous. Once there, he parries first guy's draw while getting his out own hand back out of his own line of fire (show from the hip) then smoothly transitioning to a more secure two-hand grip. Kino gun play.

By who? He got some manager at the cartel looking over his shoulder?

He says he disposed of the jazz dude down the sewer (reported in the paper as just another missing persons case) and the guy puts himself in self-run witness protection, that's that.

Attached: 1501803376692.jpg (601x508, 31K)

And at what point did he do that exactly? Maybe when things had gotten desperate, i.e. requiring desperate responses? Thanks for trying though.

Wish Cruise would play more bad guys.

Michael Mann has at least a somewhat realistic sense of gunplay, and the guy holding it "gangster" style and being overconfident is basically what got him killed. Dude didn't stand a chance, and he probably thought he'd get another wallet out of the deal if he stuck his gun in Vincent's face. Last mistake he ever made. Mann's characters usually handle their guns the way an actual human would, and the fact this guy has his finger on the trigger the whole time is part of that.
I'm a /k/ poster, and this scene made me want a Sig p232 since I watched it at 14. Aesthetic guns.

Cruise literally beat the script time by like half a second (the draw and execution was supposed to all take 1.6 seconds or something). Fucking legend!

Vincent was working for a company that takes contracts from the cartel to eliminate witnesses.

You dont remember the asian nightclub hit?

It’s arguably the most accurate example of expert gun play ever put on film.

>And at what point did he do that exactly?
Maybe you need to rewatch it.

you incapacitate the one with the weapon drawn first, and take your chances that you will defeat the 2nd one before he draws his weapon and potentially hits you.
he's a trained assassin, they are street thugs.

you always hear about drive by shootings that go bad and it's always some 3 year old kid playing in grandmas back yard that eats it. your typical street thug isn't proficient at shit

I really hate how Mann wasted all this kino by using those disgusting digital cameras. Everything looks so fucking weird-wonky in Collateral ffs.

pay attention to the guy on the right. He clearly has enough time to draw on cruise if he had any training and a proper holster but he gets his piece caught on his belt and gets killed for it.

what the fuck is "gun play"?
sounds like a term from video games.

He was killed because he owed money to the wrong people.
Do you really think Vice would have let him go if he answered correctly?

>vincent
>bad guy

Did anyone notice?

Attached: 1397938672465.jpg (1919x800, 307K)

>In the script, the goal of this confrontation was to be 5 shots in 1.6 seconds. Tom Cruise clocked in at 1.39 seconds, beating the script.

Attached: 800px-CollateralUSP-45-0-1.jpg (800x333, 65K)

Some say he's still doing circles around LA.

they would notice and ignore it

>That other guy comically pulling at the gun in his belt
Literally TDKR tier

what

Better to operate their asses than waste your energy walking the extra 20 feet

>Someday? Someday my (you)'s will come? One afternoon you will wake up and discover it never happened. It's all turned around on you. It never will. Suddenly you are a boomer. Didn't happen, and it never will, because you were never going to post it anyway. You'll push it into memory and then zone out in your gaming chair, being hypnotized by daytime Yea Forums for the rest of your life. Don't you talk to me about sneedposting. All it ever took was a bait reply on a Marvel thread. And that waifu, you can't even post that waifu. What the fuck are you still doing lurking this board?

>I am literally 12

>the guy holding it "gangster" style and being overconfident is basically what got him killed. Dude didn't stand a chance,
But he did have a chance. Literally even with zero gun training and total hubris he would have 100% killed Tom Cruise if he'd done literally anything other then walk into arm's reach of Tom Cruise.

You stuff a 9mm up your ass and then fap.

God I love Michael Mann.
youtube.com/watch?v=UrK9_WR767Q

shitty acting but ive had that happen to me before. luckily the methhead i was drawing on ran away the moment he realized i had a gun. shits never gonna happen again.

Everyone always talks about the alley shootout, but the true cruise operator kino scene is the club shootout.

You can't just casually tell everyone you had a self defence situation and then not spill the details. Come on. Tell us what happened

Vincent was projecting hard here. Considering his Miles Davis knowledge he probably had dreams about a career in music.

well let's face it, "gun play" is one of the worst terms in the English language if used when referring to actual firearm usage instead of video game shit.
If people actually use that, lol @ your language.

>9mm
I guess if you don't want to feel anything.

He saw a middle aged manlet and got in his face to intimidate him. Criminals tend to be morons. Nothing unrealistic about the second guy fumbling, most people would simply freeze or start running like a bitch. The quick shots to the body followed by an aimed headshot is the Mozambique drill, an operator like Vincent would have trained again and again.

go be a mexican somewhere else

>be at shitty circle k in nowheresville TN
>tweeker methhead comes up
>ey bro you spare a couple bucks for gas?
>no
>come on man im just askin for a couple bucks
>i dont have any cash
>i bet you do
>he keeps approaching
>back up around my shitty car and try to draw
>gun gets caught on my jeans the first try
>he runs away immediately
>finally get handgun out
>put it back in holster
>call cops

i got a kydex holster now and practice drawing it at least once a week.

I am a proud member of the Finnic race

Fuck off Partajäbä.

lmao, he looks so fucking tiny with those cameras.

This is literal weeb shit. I can't believe people praise it.

>if you watch a small section of a movie several times in a row you notice flaws that no one would notice in normal viewing conditions

Are you the same fag who complains about the disappearing blade in TLJ throne room scene

Attached: 1386881015787.gif (292x314, 217K)

Fucking kino as fuck. The scene blew my mind when I watched the movie for the first time.

>a small section of a movie
That is how we describe scenes, yes.

>multiple times in a row
>to notice that
Based retard.

Attached: based and redpilled.jpg (608x774, 38K)

Will Mann ever make a good movie again?

Ok chinaman well the phrases gunplay gameplay swordplay etc are normal vocab

this movie was great until the garbage cliche ending

>black man looking away in horror as Vincent kills two men trying to steal his property and pulling a gun on him when he confronted them
Was this added to prevent it from being a scene that "women will never understand"?

>Bad guy spends way too long fumbling with his gun
Why not just give him a knife or something? This looks sloppy as fuck

Attached: 1459011624721.png (384x239, 7K)

Put a gun in your waistband, not a holster, your waistband. Slowly pull up and notice it get caught on fucking everything. Now do it panicked.

There is a reason for holsters beyond comfort and trigger safety.

Clearing clothes is one of the biggest lessons in CCW practice and training. Literally called "defeat garment" because it being buried layers of clothes deep is your first fucking problem.

Retard there had coat, shirt, and pants get bunched around the weapon, never got a secured grip, never cleared his waistband.

Someone who carries appendix and knows what they are doing will use their offhand to pull their shirt front up and away, BEFORE going for the weapon. This fuck just went scrounging in his waistband, because some thug with a gun thinks he's already the pinnacle of tough and doesn't need practice.

And one last bit. A good draw from reacting to stimulus (like a buzzer, or Tom Cruise swatting a gun) then going from concealment to sight on target is 1 second or less. A .89 is fairly good, but that's with practice. Guy on the right had under 1.39 seconds.

yea you would coolly observe the scene in front of you and nod respectfully if this happened during your work day.

Attached: le max payne face.gif (200x200, 1.92M)

He did answer the question correctly. Vincent killed him anyway. I don't know how multiple people in the thread arent aware of this lmao it's spelled out very clearly in the film

Yeah a meth head mugger being sloppy with his gun is so unrealistic.

Thank you for your logic and input

Truly gunkino

The scene in Fallout when he saves the wounded cop gave me sweet flashbacks to this.

That cop was cute.

For those doubting the alley scene.

Cliche writing desu

Every time I see this I cant help but notice how short Tom Cruise is.

this.

Heh. I knew it was the Vickers tactical vid before I opened the link. Based boomer Larry.

>white people sticking you up in los angeles

lmao

Go quickly pull a gun out of your waistband. You do own at least one gun don't you?
Now imagine doing it as your buddy is getting peppered with bullets when you both thought you had the upper hand.

can I ask an honest question about americans.. do most of you shoot to kill random people you are stealing or mugging from? I thought a gun would be used to intimidate victims most of the time

I don't have any dreams

everything looks unrealistic without sound. as soon as you mute any movie youre like woah fuck they're hamming on a set.
In the film there's loud as fuck disorienting gun blasts which take away enough of your and plausibly that guy's concentration that it feels fine

I wish Tom would do more roles like this. I get the impression that the church of scientology is always pushing him toward films where he saves the planet from aliens/robots/terrorists or whatever.
It's not that all those films are bad, some are actually great but I just wanna see him do something different because I know he can.

>SquidRidesFor 2 år siden
This must be an Asian club or a club of midgets... only explanation how Tom Cruiser can see over that crowd.
based youtube commenters

Yeah the movie makes it pretty clear he's unhappy with his life.
Probably considers suicide daily because of guilt

Have you been to LA? Nothing like getting stuck by some white homeless transient who brought a gun from the shithole they were spawned from

Only way to shoot those night scenes without them looking even shittier

a lot of muggers with a weapon do not harm or kill the person they are robbing. it's well understood that a murder is taken a lot more seriously than armed robbery.

Why do Collateralfags defend this scene so hard? It was poorly done, plain and simple. I know you think Tom Cruise is a badass, but that was just lazy action choreography

you probably think the Heat shooting scenes with val kilmer are sloppy too. troll or retard.

>You probably hurr Durr
Not an argument. It's still lazy.

Attached: 197142170311434.jpg (400x400, 19K)

Ton cruise should have played more villains
His natural charisma and intensity you’d normally associate with being the protagonist really works well when it’s channeled into being the “villain”

He was best in Magnolia

god bless tom cruise
nigga got me back to reading books after i watched jack reacher

Why does Tom Cruise keep dying his hair black when he looks kino with grey hair?

I'm pretty sure every single armed civilian in the history of mankind would've shot them when they had their backs turned.

CHICHARO

ONCE UPON A TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME

arguably best tom cruise's performance ever

great movie

Vanilla sky?

My favorite overlooked detail is how Max gets the one up on Vincent at the end in the rail car. Vincent's shooting pattern is two to the chest and one to the head, but the railway door Max is behind is designed in such a way that the middle portion saves Max's life
