I don't know if I'm being idealist here but I don't see him as some crazy right wing guy. He is definitely on the right of the political spectrum but I don't think he celebrates that fact. All of the movies I've seen that he's done always show the brutal realities of violence, the state of society as a whole, and never shys away from how people interact. He bascially makes his movies as factually correct and truthfully as possible when it comes to the overall subject but then has some fun with it from there. I don't think he preaches certain right wing things but just accepts the world as it is and uses that for the jumping off point in his movies.
The feeling I get from the people who try to paint him as a right wing extremist is that they don't like that the world he shows is the real world and it blows apart the fantasy land they hide in or try to make people believe is the reality so out of fear they work at making him come across as almost cartoonishly evil when he's not close to that at all.
