t. brainlet

everything is spelled out for you in the film if you pay attention

I bet if he googled "enemy explained" he could find a bunch of basedbois itching to hold his hand through all the philosophy and themes.

there is a spider.... spider..... spider....
deep in my soul..... .soul..... soul....
he's lived there for years
he just won't let go
he's laying around
he's got a mean bite
now he's ready toooo

fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

and stand up for what he looooooooooooooooooooooooves

I don't need ur trophies and your gold

I just wanna tell you all
go fuck yourselves

His penis turns women into spiders

no buly
what did the spiders mean, I understand the rest

Is about his relationship with women, and his fear of them. Not only women he gets involved romantically with, but even the mother (bigger spider).
They are the enemy for him, and does not look like at the end he managed to solve the problem in an healthy manner (albeit is KINDA solved because the power struggle is inverted).
The enemy could also be himself, his worst enemy, told in the tale of the double and the fact that he could have had freedom if not for these women, at least in his point of view.

I still don't get it

Wait why he has a whole city and a fucking spider growing on his head? Was it explained in the movie? I am not even sure I noticed this detail back when I watched it!!!!

mobie about fear of women
bigger spidey = bigger fear
double = wish fulfillment, state of denial
ending = fear conquered, but not loving women, just dominating them but still seeing them as monster

OP here, thanks for the explanation. Kinda makes sense to me now

So there weren't actually two of him?

there are two jakes because he's presenting a falsely confident front.

bad movie, I understood everything until last scene where there is suddenly a big spider mutant, why?

No. For the same reason the dancer did not actually have a spider head.

but he was actually involved with different women then right and had a double life? the other jake wasn't a separate person?

Anons, remember:
>“Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they're in good company.”
You are the reason why we cannot discuss movies anymore.

I understand most of the posts itt are just having fun but I genuinely did not understand this movie even though I enjoyed watching it. I'm aware I'm not intelligent either because everyone else seems to get it but me. I don't understand what the spiders mean or why they were even there, or how you're even suppose to figure out what they are in the first place. I don't understand when the other anons say there weren't actually two of him and it was a projection. Whenever I watch movies I have tremendous difficulty looking at them past the surface and don't know how to improve that.

>Whenever I watch movies I have tremendous difficulty looking at them past the surface and don't know how to improve that.
Some methods are studied in school, albeit generally for written text and use of figurative language and stylistic devices.

spiders = women
web = prison of the mind
city = subconscious
incel cuck afraid of spiders
incel creates a doppelganger chad in subconscious
chad fucks spiders
spiders/women tower over the city/subconscious and terrorise incel cuck sadboy
mother spider archetype
slutty girl spider archetype
gf spider archetype
wife archetype
chad subconscious keeps fucking spiders
incel cuck gains confidence
conscious kills subconscious chad
he is no longer a cuck he is a conscious chad
spiders are afraid of him
he is the top dog of the city = subconscious
Do you get it now brainlet?

Would this work in real life? Creating a subconscious chad version of yourself and then eventually taking him over?

Yes but it's dangerous because the subconscious chad may kill your conscious seld and shoot up a place

Theres a couple of really good youtube vids that explain it in depth but its been years since i watched so youre on your own finding them

u fug my wife?

Did the ending shit anyone else up?

Nothing to say about this or the topic in general but fair play for taking it on the chin and admitting your shortcomings. Happens so seldom on this board it's like a reverse drinking game. You may not be intelligent by your own admission -may or may not be true, people are intelligent in different ways- but you're one of like ten people on Yea Forums who isn't an insecure little bitch who will fight tooth and nail to avoid admitting their shortcomings on an imageboard despite a shield of anonymity.

Poor man Eraserhead the name is Enemy.

This. That user could not be the smartest (or maybe is just not educated on that specific topic, which is actually what i think, he needs tools) but is a better person that most people I read here.

Stop trying, youre clearly not fit for intellectual activities. Nothing wrong with that, different people have different aptitudes.

This is one of the insecure retards. He wants to drag you at his level.
Give at least a try to it. Read, search documentaries, anything. Start with more accessible stuff.

Yes, there were two of them. The whole point of the movie is that a guy has a twin out there.

Don't let these guys and their tryhard /r/truefilm theories confuse you.

i google every film after i watch no matter the level of my understanding. i want to know how others interpreted it.

There were TWO spiders all along. One of them took SGH and killed the pregnant bitch and the mistress killed the other little spider.

Why are you too stupid to follow this?

>It is about this specific thing
>But it could also be about this completely different thing
How to spot a pseudointellectual pleb

Spiders = women

>i want to know how others interpreted it
My opinion is that the only people you should talk about the meaning of a movie is your friends, family, girlfriend and not the faggots that lurk the internet
Just break free of the samethink grid

Spiders = deep state

that's literally the opposite of what you want

Villeneuve's worst imo

And in your case, how to spot someone that is functionally illiterate?
There are no contradictions in what I wrote. The only "it could be X or Y" is the interpretation of the title of the movie, if the Enemy is women or himself. But the interpretation of the movie is consistent.

BTW, the guy I am answering to is another of those insecure idiots, see above.

that would be arrival

I wish Yea Forums had a version of start with the greeks.

This, arrival is a stinking pile of shit and br2049 is shit too
Enemy is watchable

Huh?

I failed literature badly in hs, so I don't read past the surface either unless the film interests me to the point where I re-watch it over and over. There's more to films than figuring out the symbolism and hidden meanings. If a movie only has that going for it, it's probably shit or not worth the time, so don't beat yourself up.

The real question is which version is a true representation of his self- his mother was going to feed him blueberries, stating he always loved them- his alpha version loved blueberries. The beta version of him had a shitty unfurnished apartment, suggesting it isn't a real life.
But here is the kicker- the girlfriend of the beta version noticed the ring's "shadow", how can that be explained?

Just like a basic introduction of movies to start with to grasp certain concepts and then where to go from there. How to improve your taste and understanding.

This one brainlet is beautiful

Alien invasion. Body snatching spiders.

This movie really showed me how important posture and body language is. I always wrote it off as meangless because if you're attractive it won't matter but the meek version of Jake was just such a massive turn off compared to the other one even though they are the same person.

based

Someone please answer this user

yeah the who is the real double thing confused me because of the beta/chad dynamic. you would assume that the beta imagines to be a chad and all. i always thought about it like this: that the actor with gf/wife is the real one but he always put on a facade and is actually terrified of women. and as you said the mother visited the actor and the girl he had the affair with noticed the marks of the ring. he learned to act confident and attained a wife by keeping up this constant facade, he was so convinced of his own lie about himself that he started an affair and going to wierdo strip shows, to prove how confident he is around women. but its really exhausting to keep that many lies active so he eventually crumbled and his old insecure beta self came out again. he had a struggle with himself and the insecure beta won, kinda accepting himself and his fear of women over acting all tough (chad dies in crash, beta takes his place next to wife - wife transforms into spider but he does not flinch)
its probably all over the place. its been quite a while since i watched it. im not too big on re-watching movies tho

Attached: 1477923906943.jpg (655x527, 55K)

>the real one
i phrased that dumb. meant that the guy with the preggers girl was the original starting point, his actual life.

Fucking hell, the movie really does a poor job defining the lines between reality and allegory.
His Chad version according to your interpretation "dies", but I remember clearly hearing on the radio the description of the crash. I feel like even Villenueve wasn't sure what he was doing when he made this.

What exactly the radio says? It could be for the character sort of pic related

Attached: wish.jpg (600x623, 24K)

The radio describes the crash and the traffic, so the crash actually happened and isn't some allegory for the death of his chad version, lending reality to them being physical dopplegangers and not being (solely) representations of some form of ego.

I asked what exactly describes. If the crash happened it could be the protagonist imagined himself as a victim in order to get rid of a part of himself.

I vaguely remember the radio describes a crash holding up traffic, which I interpreted as intentionally placed.

at last i truly see.
so it could be that his chad version only dies because he actually gets found out by his fling, while his gf is also already extremely suspicous. so he "kills off" his chad version not because he has some sort of revalation but simply because he got caught.
and when his pregnant gf transforms into this giant spider thats his fear of her finding out/he knows she knows and might hold an eternal grudge for the entirety of their remaining life together

He turned off the radio before they told us exactly what happened. There are car crashes literally every day so it could just be a coincidence

best thread on Yea Forums atm
achievement reached actually talking about a movie

Possibly, but we're discussing a movie where everything has a specific meaning and is placed with a specific reasoning.

>ywn impregnate sarah gadon

it was a huge spider. get it?

Attached: 1546241337805.jpg (1920x1087, 476K)

To me it didn't mean anything, but I like it because there's a lot of weird surreal stylistic shit on screen

I don't need a damn explanation. Just seems like a nightmare. Sometimes it's enjoyable, to experience a cinematic nightmare.

Albeit the movie is interpretable in some way, I think this is a perfectly reasonable point of view.
Many like 70s horror from Fulci and Argento (not making any other parallelism with Villeneuve, mind it, and even between the two directors beyond the most superficial aspects) for the way they look (especially Argento's movies) and the fact that they seem like fever dreams (especially Fulci's, combination of his ambitious style and shit writing).

Yeah, I'm a pretty big Argento fan now, even though just recently I picked him up. When I saw Deep Red I didn't feel like it imparted some deep didactic wisdom to me as a person, I just thought "holy shit that kill scene with the prog music and the rapid cuts was cool"

After seeing Tenebrae, I might call it now one of my favorite films, and its not from acting quality or "message" or anything, but yeah, it feels like a nightmare. It's some crazy shit, seeing somebody's hand hacked off and watching them spray blood like a can of spray paint. I don't need it to teach me anything about male/female relations or whatever. It's just aesthetically pleasurable

I really liked how empty the entire city felt. It was like it was all one color with no life at all.

>It's just aesthetically pleasurable
It was (probably) his aim. Also remember that if a movie has an interpretation or theme does not necessarily mean he has to, or wants to, TEACH. It can use it as a device to set the narration or the visuals, or just to explore with no preaching.
