Not the other guy but my main gripe with the band is that there are no genuine musical progressions in the songs. They find a nice rhythm from time to time or a cool progression but never really evolve them.
They also rely a lot on gimmick like many bands of the time.
I wouldn‘t call them the most overrated band. But they are unsatisfying, because they don‘t use their potential and you end up with songs that bore after you heard the second chorus.
Oh, and the vocals also suck sometimes.
Their best album are the CBS Demos btw.

Repetition is the thing on Remain in Light and pretty much utilized early loops/sampling. It's really a different approach from the previous albums specifically 77 and More Songs About Buildings and Food. I think that's the main highlight of the album together with the synths and Afrobeat influence. Funny thing is their influence is no different try listening to Fela Kuti's Zombie they all follow the same pattern, nice rhythm, really long tracks!

Yeah, it works great on remain in light, I just think the album loses energy after the first three tracks. Still second favorite album after the demos. Listened to More Songs a lot and was a big fan at the start, but now it just bores me.
