i'm thinking about starting up a new storefront movie rental / game rental place.
would that be something you anons would be interested? what kind of names would be good for this kind of place? I was thinking they would be a smaller-sized retail chain (think gamestop sized, maybe they could be in malls)
any other suggestions or helpful ideas are more than welcome
Your best bet is to have a third gimmick. Maybe some food or a karaoke bar.
On second thought... Open a karaoke bar.
Alexander Sullivan
stores like this never exceed profits. every time they die.
but maybe, say you never exceed your budget, even you could do this.
Adam Phillips
here are a few suggestions:
1. Retail space is extremely expensive, you will go out of business just trying to pay rent let alone deal with employees or inventory.
2. Malls are dying and so is gamestop because of reason #1
3. Normies will never, EVER leave the convenience of netflix/hulu/whatever to actually get in their cars and drive somewhere.
4. The other target audience: people who come to you because they're film snobs and you have niche shit are also too autistic to want to meet someone in person, will never actually pay for the things they covet and will continue to torrent everything, or will be so fucking insufferable to interact with you'll wish you never came up with this idea in the first place
People don't want to interact, they don't want to leave their homes, and they don't have to. You're better off adding some special twist to it, like you're a shop with 100% niche films who has a theater room and a nice projector and shows these niche films nightly. Unless you're in some yuppie hellhole like Austin, TX you will never find a loyal enough group of hipster fucks to pay to see Citizen Kane on a Tuesday night, so basically my advice is don't do this.
Brody Baker
Seriously this, just open a bar that plays cult movies and has video games
Benjamin Williams
if you opened a new storefront movies store, what kind of food would you serve for your customers?
Jace Cooper
Fried pickles and chocolate milk

this is actually not a bad idea as long as you can get the word out

hi sorry, i don't think you read the thread so I'll fill you in here. basicaly it would be similar to a blockbuster, but on a smaller scale (like gamestop). Also, I'm still trying to come up with a name so that would be great if you had any suggestions there.
its just a quick wip i came up with, what do you think of the idea? would you like to shop there?
I thought about a karoke bar. would you be inclined to shop here if it had karaoke?
interesting take thank you. what do you think of a good name?
can you tell me about sneedio? what does that mean. thank you for your reply
oh wow i had not thought about how expensive it is. do you know how much they cost to rent? I think people would still come actually though. A lot of people i know go to stores so im not sure that you're right about that. thank you for the reply. do you have any name suggestions?
itneresting idea, but I'm not 21 yet. can I start a bar if I'm only 19?
oh wow I had really not thought of that! I don't know, i would probably ask you guys for some advise on what kinds of food people like. i think around here people expect popcorn with movies so maybe that? do you think of any foods that would be good for a movie store? thank you for your reply.
Aaron Nelson
Yeah, a video rental store in a mall! Great idea, malls are always full of people and video rental is a growth industry. And don't be cheap with it. It takes money to make money.
Chase Lewis
What the fuck
Adam Davis
hi thanks ofr the advise. when I say mall I am thinking more like the shopping malls you see now where it is a verizon store, qdoba, gamestop, etc. they seem very popular. i think this would save money on rent if it is a smaller space. what do you think? (also i am looking for a help with name)
hey it's me, i asked you about the food. i just wanted to say that with something like popcorn, you would need wet wipes. have you been to a buffallo wild wings? they give out wet wipe napkins that come in a pouch so you can wipe your fingers of. i like this idea to get my hands clean, but also you would need to have regular, dry, napkins like they have at a regular restaurant so you need to look up how much both types of napkins cost.
ok there seems to be a bit of confusion about wha ti mean by "mall" I made this quick diagram so you guys can understand better. i hope that this helps. it would basically have a parking lot and then a big building that is divided up into individual stores so that we could save some money on rent. i dont think you need a big floor for browsing movies we could maybe have tvs or something to browse on (new idea) but hten you could park and pick up your movies nad maybe stop at another store for convenience. doe this make sense you guys?
do you think this name would be good? can you explain what the significance of sniff is? thanks for your reply
hi thank you, I think we have a pretty solid business plan, did you read the thread? If you didn't basically the plan is to start a smaller scale blockbuster that would sell movies. we have also discussed maybe selling food. what do you think of that? thanks for your reply.
oh interesting. yes I have seen buffalo wild wings they are usually in the malls I am talking about!! :) yes I have seen their wet wipes they have their name and logo on them, very good idea. I think keeping your hands clean when looking at movies would be very smart. what if the popcorn was complimentary and came in a fun cart? we could have napkins with our logo on them. I'm not sure how much napkisn cost. do you know how much napkisn cost?
thank you for your support. I think the name is very important actually. what do you think of us serving popcorn would that incline you to come to the store?
hello thank you! Kino sounds like ag ood name that is one of my favorit ememes on this board actually. does anyone else like the name kino? do you know of any other good names? also would you come to the store often if they served popcorn?
wow I am getting so many feedback replies thank you guys so much :D! does your friends store sell movies too? I am thinking my store would also sell games and stuff. do you think you would be interested in a place that does that? it would also have popcorn that seems to be something people are very excited about! thanks for your help :)
yes exactly! we are talking about snacks. do you think doritos are a better snack? popcorn seems to be a very popular idea with people. can you tell me a bit more about snacks you are interested in?
hi sorry i missed your reply, but thank you for your help. do you know anything else about starting a bar?
Jeremiah Fisher
you can probably buy the napkins from a distributor and get them for a good price
Colton Gonzalez
you should name it the Kino Korner and make sure you have a corner spot at the mall. it might be more expensive to be on the corner, but also you get traffic from people going in four directions (means you will get more customers checking it out)
>do you know anything else about starting a bar? You have to have a liquor license
Aaron Richardson
This dumb nigger has to be trolling. He's pitching a video rental store in a strip mall for christs sake. Nobody can be this retarded. Hey here's my hot take - buggy whips. They're coming back, get in on the ground floor.
Adam Davis
I went to a record store once in Madison (Wisconsin) and they had a keg of beer and you could get yourself a beer. it was fun since beer and listening to records is a great combination. It's the same for movies too, I drink beer and watch movies all the time. If you save up for two years before you open the storefront, you can buy beer (in my state the drinking age is 21) and have a keg of beer out at the store for the patrons.
Parker Lewis
0 percent inclined why would I bother when I can just stream titles on netflix, or if I actually want something physical and somewhat new, redbox
Jayden Carter
interesting, do you know any distributors that sell napkins? we also need wet napkins as well with our logo on them, do you know anyone who would sell those? ((we do not have a logo yet)
oh wow! this is such a good idea. do you think there are a lot of these places on corners that would be able to be bought? how many more customers do you think i could get if it was on a corner vs not on a corner etc? thank you again :) also i wrote up a layout what do you think?
are there any specific kinds of sodas you would buy while you are there? also what do you think of the name kino korner? we would be located on a corner and also serve free popcorn. thanks!
thank you for the information, do you need anything else? also where do I get al iquor license? what do you think of the name kino korner? would that be a place you whould shop at?
hi thanks for your reply, did you read the thread? malls are very popular where I am from and they are always full. can you tell me more about buggy whips? I do not know what those are. also what do you think of the name kino korner is that a name you would be interested in?
wow that sounds really cool. I don't know if we can serve beer, do I need a liquor license to serve beer if it is not a bar? someone said I should open a bar and that if I am not 21 and don thav ea licquor license I might not be able to. what do you think of the name kino korner? where would you serve beer in the store do you thinK?
hi thanks for your reply. did you read the thread? our store would have a lot of options nad might be better than redbox, we are playing with the idea of serving popcorn at hte store. would that change your mind? (netflix and redbox do not serve popcorn. what do you think of the name kino korner? would you be inclined to stop by there?
also I put together a quick draft layout of the store (kino korner, name is still pending but a lot of people like it :D) the red box is where the popcorn would be and all the blue squares are tv screens for browsing what movies are availabel. then you could select them and go up to the counter and the clerk would you give the movie. all the orange cirlces are waste baskets for napkins so people can keep their hands clean while usin the screens. do you guys like this layout? it would probably be on a corner if other people think that is a good idea!
Nathaniel Evans
Sure user, if you hire me I can even showcase some hidden gems.
I go to the DVDs store by my apartment whenever my boss lets me go home with extra money, part of the DVDs store experience for me is looking at all of the shelves. But I don't see any shelves on your diagram?
Jaxon Ramirez
heyyyy! I didn't know people would be so interested! we dont have a store yet so i can't give you a job, but i will let you know if we open one. do you have an email or phone number so I can text you some info??? Also, can you tell me what you think of our business plan so far?
okay so I need a liquor license even if it's not abar? you seem to know a lot about this have you ever had a bar before? thank you so mcuh
hi thanks! yes there are no shelves for the diagram. I was thinking to have TVs instead for browsing (people are very excited about this) what do you think of tvs for browsing? (this will help save on space) do you htink it woul dbe better if we had shelves too? also what do you feel about the name kino korner? it seems very popular. (the store would be on a corner and also serve free popcorn)
hey everyone I have to go because i am studying for uni now, thank you for all your help :))) everyone is always so friendly and helpful here :D
Brody Cook
>okay so I need a liquor license even if it's not abar? you seem to know a lot about this have you ever had a bar before? thank you so mcuh Serving alcohol requires a liquor license, regardless of whether you call the place a bar or not
Jayden Ortiz
Heres my idea, you can have it for free.
Pure curated films. Sections organized not by genre but quality. Practically shaming plebs for watching shite films.
>enter store >go left, to the capeshit and Fast and Furious >go center, Spielberg and Tarantino films >go right, Lynch, Coen, and Segal films
That's too many trash cans. You don't want to blow all your start up money on trash cans. You should get a lower amount of the kind of cans with the lids that swing in. Those are more fun to throw things away in. People may just toss napkins on the floor if the cans aren't fun.
Dominic Bailey
You sound like you failed art school

I woildnt go to a small whole in the wall place but id go to a clean slmost blockbuster or hollywood video themed one. Each week i'd have themes with releases from that year or week in history. Also do viewing parties and shit like that. There are only a few locations in the world that would it would even work though
Levi Stewart
have fun when you shut down in 6 months due to lack of business and niggers never bringing back your shit lmao
don't do it man

It'd be awesome if the movie shop also made pizzas in the back.

I would rent a bunch of games from your store and never return them, then tell all my friends to do the same thing. What the fuck are you gonna do about it?
Ayden Smith
>I'm thinking about starting up a new storefront movie rental / game rental place >they could be in malls
where the fuck do you live that ANY of this seems remotely realistic?
probably charge you for late fees as well as the cost of replacing the product(s)

Family Video stays in business because old people still rent and can’t figure out streaming; and Christian parents want wholesome non R rated movies and pizza on the weekends. Find your audience and then find your niche to cater to them. Make yourself indispensable, give them something that they can’t get at home. Maybe take money and focus group some demographics you’re interested in.
>movie screenings of the latest hot blumhouse or A24 movies >movie mixer/speed dating where people bring their favorite movie and go from table to table talking with their date about each other’s >huge ass candy or flavored popcorn selection >pizza place attached >monthly contests >preferred membership subscription to have first access to the latest movies
These are outside the box things that may help. You’re fighting against torrenting or streaming while eating lasagna naked on the couch. You have to get creative in order to hook and keep people coming back because they don’t want to leave their homes anymore.

What kind of fucking idiot tries to jump into an industry at the exact moment that it is taking its final breath on its deathbed? You're 30 years late, you god damn retard.
Make pizzas so you don't go out of buissness. And make them $5 for a large peporinoo
Carson Fisher
make this an actual fucking restaurant or literally nobody will show up
also where are you going to get the money to do this?
Noah Edwards
Pretty certain this is a troll thread because you've posted it several times but on the off chance that you're actually serious, that you genuinely are considering opening a bricks and mortar film/game rental place, dreaming its the 1990s again and you're Randal in Clerks, you are absolutely out of touch with reality.
The reason why those places could exist back then was because those items were initially expensive to own and if someone wanted to watch a particular thing there was literally no way to do so without getting it on a home video format or just accepting whatever film you were given on TV that night and dealing with the adverts. So if you liked the movie enough? Sure, maybe you spend the $20 or so to buy a copy, but a film you've never seen? Nah, you're going to rent it, obviously. $3 and your entertainment for the evening is sorted. Same with video games. You want a video game? That'll be $50.. or like $4-5 for 3-5 days in which you might be able to complete it anyway.
Now, you can get nearly everything directly downloaded to your PC or TV. There's no market for game rental because anything rare enough not to be on a digital distribution system is too valuable to rent out without it being immediately stolen (console carts) or, for Windows computers, it doesn't work on modern PCs at all, and obviously you could never rent PC games even back in the day since they all required activation codes. There's SOME market for film rental if you could have enough copies of the latest releases for cheap enough, but if you can't offer Avengers Endgame at the same time that Amazon does for cheap enough that it's worth someone's time to drive to you, park, pick it up and have to return it later (and you can't) then there's no market there either.
TL;DR - you are dumb if you are serious.
Cameron Ross
>peporinoo more like a pooporinpoo amirite? lmao

Lol damn he's gonna need a food license, kitchen with a vent hood, liquor license (and those are not easy to get especially for a 21 year old). He's gonna need like half a million bucks.

Ill take 200 copies of American Psycho user

Can I set up a store that sells streaming movies?
Angel Jackson
You can sell Netflix gift cards I guess. No idea what Netflix's reason for even having those is nor why it's valuable to a store to stock them (what can the profit on that possibly be and why would Netflix take the cut?) but I guess that's a possibility?
You would seriously be better off opening a SHOP that SELLS rare films on a variety of formats than this stupid rental idea. At least that has niche market appeal and can also sell film memorabilia on top. A collectors market type thing.
Connor Cruz
What about a place that sells streaming movies that you can watch in premises? Like you come in and choose a film and you can watch it in store?
Benjamin Jenkins
Yeah, that's the one man, you should do that. Go get a business loan. I'm sure everyone will want to back "I'm Gonna Charge People To Watch Netflix In Public".
