Too fast, book three had a lot of awesome shit that they trimmed down. The mutiny / civil war on the behemoth was fucking crazy in the books, they had martian marines fighting with them etc.

Most of the shit was cooler in the book, but the changes to Ashford and the cannibalizing of side characters into more Drummer were good moves.
The instant slow zone decel was a goddamn event horizon - level bloodbath in the books, instead of just floating corpses like in the show

Eh, Steven Strait is wooden, but in the books he's even more idealistic and outspoken than in the show, especially early on, which can rub you the wrong way, but the major theme of book one is Holden's idealism vs Miller's realism
