Godzilla General thread?

Hey guys. First time at Yea Forums. Wanted to know who's excited about Godzilla: King of the Monsters in a couple months?

welcome fren

More importantly, favorite kaiju? Starting off with Biollante.

Attached: Biollante_Final_Form.jpg (639x355, 244K)

I'm excited, but only if mothra, godzilla and rodan have an arguement that's translated into English for the audience.

I pray for this, brother.

I honestly do not understand why Legendary is not signing up for more Godzilla movies, but I suppose we have to let at least this one pan out before they'd change the deal. Them having it is fucking great.

Gigan of course

There's a real chance that Disney might get it someday with their Marvel connections. God let it stay with Legendary

Its nice to know that this place is filled with kaijufans

It sucks what happened to Pacific Rim 2, consideting the hype of the first one

Anyway, for me, its Jet Jaguar

If Disney gets their claws in it all we will hear about is that kaiju do not fit the gender binary and Godzilla will be a she.

My childhood favorite Godzilla monster was easily King Ghidorah. I carried around the same figure that will smith's kid in Independence day had.

I never saw the second one, but the first was badass.

Don't really understand the appeal of Kaiju movies

Toho is the only legitimate authority of Godzilla's canonicity

>dark and brooding Monsterverse
>Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah are dead
>Godzilla is dying and his heart is undergoing a nuclear meltdown
>Destoroyah is about to destroy everything
>the world is crumbling
>millions are dying
>Millie Bobby Brown is hitting the wall
>a light shines through the ash-covered sky
>Jet Jagaa starts playing
m.youtube.com/watch?v=5-CvNxRs5Zs

its giant monsters fighting and tearing apart cities, what's not to like?

I had a mecha ghidorah but his heads came off.

Attached: image.jpg (425x380, 34K)

It’s not Legendary’s choice. Their deal with Toho expires soon, and it’s Toho who can re-new this deal or not.

I mean, I get it, and I love Toho films, but they're never going to be able to give Godzilla a 200 million dollar summer smash flick budget.

I love Godzilla films by Toho for what they are, but 2014's Godzilla was where that franchise ideally should be.

I wish he was Godzilla's main opponent in the third movie. Kong is a chump.

They're just plain fun. My favorite monster other than godzilla has to be destoroyah. I loved that he constantly evolved into something better and his movie is easily in my top five godzilla movies.

I shan't let this die.

Its true tho, seeing the monsters we know and love in full and dynamic motion is the best thing

Lets hope that KOTM turns out to be great, to the point of Toho loving it and re new the contract. Heck, perhaps making a new Godzilla movie with the West, so we got a canon G movie with Hollywood budget

Patrician waifu

I'm hoping Toho cuts some new deal where maybe they get a larger cut of the profits from Legendary's franchise, because they could theoretically make the Monsterverse, which I believe is what Toho is going to be doing the next decade.

Here's basically all of the figures I have. Only ones not pictured are Kiryu and and a non-poseable Godzilla 1991 figure

And one in this pic that's hard to see is a special color version of one of the Heisei Godzillas, he's in front of the Power Rangers megazord

Bumping comfy thread

Any of you have play the fighting games?

That is fucking boss, bro. We moved to a smaller apartment in another state so we have no excess room for these "shrines" as I will call it when I can build it again.

We're not much in the way of toy collecting (this will change come May) but my wife did find me the gigantic, 30+ inches long Godzilla at a thrift shop, and we occasionally use it as an actual decoration in the living room.

I'm not aware of any other fighting game than the one on the PS3 I believe, that I never got to play.

forgot to attach the pic.

Attached: DSCN0364.jpg (876x1092, 136K)

When this came out for the GameCube my brothers and cousins played hours on hours of this

Attached: 2F010EF8-5B32-4220-96B6-35F27A9CF4CC.jpg (303x445, 38K)

Of course

This is only game that i've ever played, and through this game i've been introduced to many of Godzilla's monsters.

Though Toho's Kaijus are less in terms of number compare to the Zilla's animated series, but each of them are memorable.

Some of my favorites in the game are Jet Jaguar and Orga

Attached: images.jpeg.jpg (348x422, 43K)

Are any of these available in some format on Xbox One?

Hype as fuck. Welcome, fren!

thanks, friendo.

If anyone is interested in a Kaiju-themed death/thrash band, I moved near Seattle recently and found out they were local.

Hedorah is oddly maybe my third favorite kaiju, that whole movie was a trip.

thread theme.

Thanks! Yeah I'm pretty close to the limit for my figure space at the moment too, but hopefully that'll change soon.

And those figures are pretty nice! That big one is the Jakks Pacific 2014 if I remember correctly. I've considered getting it but just don't have space for it right now

Here's the other two figures I was talking about. Kiryu just arrived today, and the bigger one is an X-Plus Godzilla 1991, from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. Personally my favorite design from the classic toho films.

Attached: file.png (976x2016, 2.42M)

have you heard the KOTM theme?
youtu.be/ccxjyAR9Qzk

Those things both look great. I really do want to move out of an apartment and put a down payment on a house sometime soon, and I plan on turning the garage into a gym/mancave kind of thing, with a Godzilla theme.

Listening time now. I dig it already.

bumpin this back up to see if it can be resuscitated.

Bumping, not letting a comfy kaiju thread die on my watch.

Attached: Attacking.gif (500x208, 3.08M)

Love these threads. I grew up with these movies. Marathined every kaiju film back in 2009 on a weekend and it was super comfy. These threads really bring me back.

I've been a stepdad for about a year and a half, and sometimes its hard to bond with the kid, he doesn't like pro wrestling and i don't like harry potter and fortnite.

But we have family nights where we watch Godzilla films and it makes him happy. Even if he makes fun of the cheesy special effects because he's an unappreciative little shit.

Wholesome post.

Mothra, of course. Mothraniggaz turn up!

Whatever, the father died in a car accident and we're all white.

I like how Mothra always seemed smarter than most of the dullard kaiju, since she could probably be ripped to shreds if they caught her too often.

For older figures, your best bet is a site called Mandarake. Just search "SH MonsterArts" on there. They ship from Japan so there is a little bit of a fee but I've had no issue with them and bought multiple figures there. Ebay is an alternative but you're not always guaranteed a good price.

For newer figures, these are the main sites to check

>BigBadToyStore
>CDJapan
>HobbySearch
>Amazon
>AmiAmi

the Godzilla figures in the pic are S.H. MonsterArts, that's what you'll want to look for.

Mechagodzilla. I hope the nu-zilla includes him

Gigan lookin dumb thicc

Did anyone watch the Japanese anime 3-parter Godzilla? Shit was wild, I feel like im the only person to watch it though

Gigan by a mile

2002 Godzilla? I see you are a man of culture as well

I need to watch it. A lot of VAs I like in it. And it's the director of Psycho Pass and Madoka Magica

I saw it. Lots of potential wasted in my opinion. Mostly because of the cringe anime characters. But it had some good parts. And ghidorah was terrifying and the best thing of the trilogy

The lore was fucking amazing and truly awesome Godzilla.
Too bad they wasted all the potential it had

Really nice bro, personnally I'm a huge fan of the vinyl figures like pic related, even if it's not the best example

Attached: DSC_0561 copy.jpg (699x465, 55K)

It's actually a special version of G2000 with grey spines instead of pink/purple but recently they released a G2002's figure aswell

I haven't seen Godzilla 2000 but I've always liked the design, even if it does seem kind of edgelordy :P

It's also based on concept art for G2002 instead of the suit

I've always loved Megalon. G vs. Megalon was my first Goji movie, and somehow, Megalon always seemed very unique to me. In design and powers and personality. He's a douche but he's lovable, you know?

Attached: megalonmydude.jpg (1280x1540, 782K)

I always thought 2002's suit looked out of place next to Mechagodzilla but it's a really cool design

For some reason the Godzilla from "Rulers of the Earth" comic book is based on him

Attached: 1552747951281.png (1280x544, 1.22M)

damn goji looking SWOLE

>The fuck is this?

This makes me so hard

Damn Mutos had to force him out of retirement and back into the gym for a while. He ain't fuckin' around no more.

I didn't hate Pacific Rim 2 as much as some people. I do wish we could get a proper sequel with Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman back.

Yeah. In 2014 he still had some of his bulk but he'd been slackin on his routine for a while so he wasn't in peak condition anymore. Them damn MUTOs comin and fuckin like rabbits on his lawn made him hit the gym

Monsterarts are kinda pricey, and not always the best value for price. I'd say the Movie Monster Series vinyls can be just as good on details and are cheaper to boot.

MonsterArts are pricey, but they are most certainly the best value for the price, besides the X-Plus Vinyls which more often than not completely exceed the MonsterArts prices.

>I'd say the Movie Monster Series vinyls can be just as good on details and are cheaper to boot.
I mean... what? The Movie Monster Series vinyls are cheap, yes, but they're nowhere near as good on details. I don't know how you could ever come to that conclusion. MonsterArts objectively has more detail put into it.

Attached: file.png (1981x732, 1.79M)

Is legendaryverse advanced enough to have giant robots like mechagodzilla and mechakong?

>"You bug bitches better quit fuckin' on my lawn or so help me!--"

Amusing visuals.

If they keep tradition and make Ghidorah a space monster, they could conceivably bring back traditional alien-origin MechaG, yeah? Having the humans make a Mechagodzilla seems weird and overkill. Like, big robots, sure whatever, but a giant Godzilla-lookin' robot? What's the point? Having aliens do it with the whole Godzilla-skin to make the real Godzilla look bad at first, that makes it way more interesting, and the Goji appearance serves a function.

No. Not to mention the MonsterVerse is much more grounded so the idea of mechas is pretty unlikely.

The most "out-there" thing we've seen so far is the big jet in the KOTM trailers, and really it's not that out there, we've built jets and we have planes using the exact same design philosophy

Attached: Godzilla King Of The Monsters Trailer 2.mkv_snapshot_00.55_[2019.01.03_05.07.52].png (1920x1080, 3.03M)

Of course it's going to depend figure by figure and I don't disagree that MonsterArts have sharper sculpting overall, but a lot of fine detail can still be found on the cheaper vinyls, though they're not always painted in. Just putting some options out there, respect.

Attached: kiryu.jpg (500x500, 109K)

Certainly, some of the Vinyls can have some decent detail to them for what they are. But many of them don't too. They're really hit or miss compared to MonsterArts, contrary to your initial post.

And there's nothing wrong with putting options out there. That user was specifically asking about the figures in that image though, which are MonsterArts, except for the one on the far left which is the NECA 2014.

Attached: file.png (594x1056, 865K)

forgot to add, I'm not trying to talk down or anything, just avoiding misinformation from being spread.

The Bandai vinyls are good, cheap, no-articulation figures if you just want some Godzilla figures

NECA is a good alternative if you want articulation.

SH MonsterArts is your best bet for Godzilla figures that have a wide range of articulation, great sculpts, great paint(outside of the occasional defects that make it through quality control).

X-Plus is the top of the line for Godzilla merchandise. No articulation since they're vinyls, but they are well worth the price. The sculpts are immaculate, whether its the majority of them that are trying to accurately capture the suits/CGI, or the few ones that are stylized versions by specific sculptors like Yuji Sakai.

Here's a few comparisons for the sake of it

from left to right its Bandai Movie Monster Series, NECA, SH MonsterArts, and finally X-PLus

Attached: download.jpg (3599x1600, 1.08M)

No offence taken. Like I said, it depends on a figure by figure basis and also how much a particular design means to each person. I've both SH and vinyls on my shelf and will say that there are times I would have been perfectly content staying with the cheaper option.

The kung fu lion himself, motherfucking King Caesar.

>Desghidorah
I did not know about this kaiju.

Going through all of the movies chronologically, one a day. Watched invasion of Astro Monster yesterday.
Rodan flying Godzilla over to spear Ghidorah into the ocean was hype as fuck

It's probably the only thing i'm looking forward to at this point. That and the Toho remakes.

fucking based

Gigan is based as fuck but Hedorah will always have a special place for being the first genuinely creepy fucker and having a rad monster roar.

special shoutout goes to Destroyah of course along with Ebirah

God, I want one.

Attached: ........jpg (290x270, 10K)

it will happen as long as the next 2 don't completely bomb

I watched the first two, and noticed the trend.

>Most of the runtime is people talking about how fucked they are
>Hatch some scheme to kill Godzilla
>Plan is working, and Godzilla is seemingly defeated
>Through some random asspull, he turns the tables, and rapes everyone's shit

I'm also not a huge fan of the reimagining of the monsters. Godzilla looks too jolly, Mechagodzilla is a city (the fuck?), and Ghidorah is some kind of snake thing that's made out of lightning.

What's top left from? Mechagodzilla 3/Tokyo SOS?

>occasional
They aren't that occasional in recent history.

I'm so glad they got rid of the stupid elephant feet and stumpy spines from '14.

i like the re-imagining of the monsters desu
godzilla is the result of a law of the universe and ghidorah is an other dimensional eternal being. its really interesting
i thought mechagodzilla being a city worked well for the themes the movie was exploring also

Besides Goji? Hedorah.

Attached: 1424479_535560896534063_938177406_n.jpg (500x601, 145K)

Thanks for this. The only merch I've got is a finger puppet I found in a Mandarake a few years ago. The only thing I could afford at the time. It's cute, but I want something bigger. We did reach the top of Tokyo Tower together though,

Attached: 777199.jpg?rev=1542143088.jpg (199x256, 14K)

is it possible to pull this off without looking dumb?

Attached: imgrc0102119111.jpg (500x500, 51K)

Not unless you're under 10 years old.

Or a cute girl.

Alright, lads. What's the worst Godzilla movie and why? I found Godzilla Raids Again/Gigantis to be so boring and dull, especially the plot about the cannery.

I really love Jet Jaguar and Megalon, and I don't know why. Maybe it's because they're so goofy.

Man, what the fuck was the Unleashed games on Wii and PS2. They did so many things right yet so many wrong. The roster was really good (sadly, they rejected Bagan and Zilla from the roster) being a mix of popular monsters and obscure ones, too. But they fucked up both versions royally. The Wii had weird system changes, like how all monsters can't remove a block of health using their beam attacks except for Mechagodzilla 1 and 2, and Destoroyah and Megaguirus being broken as heck. The two new monsters, Obsidius and Krystalak used stock monster and cat and jaguar sounds for their roars. The PS2 version was a literal copy paste of Save the Earth with none of the new monsters from the Wii version being added except for Obsidius, and him and Battra are clones of Orga and Mothra, respectively. Not even Biollante was in the PS2 version, despite being in the game files of Save the Earth! Don't forget that they somehow broke most of the throws in that version, too, with most characters' throws having no horizontal distance.

Attached: 46604631_p11.jpg (1210x1170, 660K)

Yep, that's KiryuGoji.

Yes they are. I've had literally no issues with any of the figures I've gotten, besides maybe one eye being SLIGHTY off center but so little that it's not even noticeable unless you're looking for it

I mean, they really just made the toe claws longer but it does wonders to the look.

You're welcome user!

Easily Godzilla's Revenge, no contest. 1998 is a bad godzilla movie but even it at least tries to be a monster movie.

Godzilla Raids Again is a bit bland sure but I don't think the blandness makes it nearly as bad as "Bullying Metaphor Dream Land"

Attached: 0219-Xplus-Sakai-Godzilla-2002-Big.jpg (2000x1882, 301K)

>Yes they are.
Compared to what it used to be? Hardly. They're frequent and egregious enough to be a constant concern when buying given the price point.

You're vastly over exaggerating the number of defects

Feel free to Google it. Or just go on /toy/ sometime and ask about it.

Is an original design? Is different from the '02-'03 design

Anguirus was born to job to everyone he meets. The only time he wins a fight by himself is in the comic books, where his only ever win was against Destoroyah. Nothing is more pathetic than a relative of Gigantis.
