this is an extremely high stakes corporate game and a battle for control of world media
people see marvel and star wars and shit making a few billion here and there and think that disney is untouchable
but a few billion is almost chicken feed at this level
amazon and google dwarf them in revenue and infrastructure

Don't forget Apple and some other big tech companies. You're right that Disney are now competing at a higher level, instead of being against studios like Warner or Paramount or whoever they're against these corporate behemoths, and success is not guaranteed. We all think of Disney as this monolithic unstoppable force, but in reality they're now the little scrawny kid at the table trying to pick up some scraps. If all their heavy, HEAVY investments don't pay off (Fox, streaming services, etc.) they could be in trouble.
