Remove this entire scene. Nothing of value is lost. I fucking hate this scene.
why would anyone take this job
>cutting out fantastic Ficthner film
YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU'RE STEALING FROM?
THE AUDIENCE!
Nah, I'm Dr Pavelhier
They were promised a large sum of money
It's a heist job. They're all informed that they need to kill their heist partner. None of them meet up until the heist itself, so none of them know about their secret objective. It's flawless and a great moment of cinema storytelling. Have no idea how Nolan came up with the concept, because I've analyzed the scenario in every possible way but can't find a flaw. Say what you want about Nolan, but this was the perfect intro.
It's not about the money
Nolan's a master at setting up those grand designs and twists. It's just everywhere else that he falls flat.
is there an FBI in the gotham universe? robbing a bank is federal and they don't just let it slide.
the feds have 80 years of experience in these cases, cutting edge forensic tech, massive manpower, etc.
plus the schoolbus wrinkle would activate the "muh cheeeeldren" brigade of moms+local news fearmongers.
what movie is this?
We've got an FBI and one of our cities is still nicknamed Bodymore, Murderland.
You know how many banks get robbed in East St. Louis or Detroit?
The bodycount of Joker's heist is a quiet day in Chiraq.
Gotham is an irredeemable shithole.
Funny, they told me something similar...

You never seen bankposting before eh?

It's a big movie.
well when you put it that way....
>Be school bus driver
>See a bus drive out of a bank that was just robbed right into line in front of you
>Don't radio it in or tell the police
>is it a problem?
>no, I'm Dunnhier
Imagine the infinite hubris required to speak this line. Dunnhier's blind overconfidence and then summary execution speaks to Nolan's absolute mastery of the cinematic craft, or kinocraft as we say in the business. You see, Dunnhier is a master thief. In answering the question he proclaims his bravado and instantly cements himself as a man so skilled in the field that nothing can stop him. Imagine, a beautiful mind, snuffed in an instant. How do you analyze this exchange?
How do we know he didn't?
gotham made a lot more sense when i read recently gotham is based on new jersey rather than new york. i just assumed metropolis and gotham were both essentailly new york.
who was ewan
>Implying the other busses weren't also clowns
>driven by clown
>empty
>covered in dust
>bunch of heavy money bags he needs to take somewhere
>everyone in the bank knows about it and will immediately report it to police
>stuck in between a bunch of other buses
>even if he managed to get out school buses are extremely conspicuous
nolan likes "i can just not show a character getting out of a difficult situation and people will accept it"
>that bus actually waits for him to merge in from the bank
it's a clever stab at the average intelligence of bus drivers

no. im Cunnhier
I keep seeing cunny references around but where are the threads?!
look for potatoes
Literal brainlet.
The whole scene is the movie in a microcosm. What Nolan sought to convey was the agents of chaos and order clashing against each other. Joker being the agent of chaos and Ike Hill being the agent of order. What Nolan manages to do though is subvert the whole film, as the things that escalate at the beginning, are a blueprint of what's to happen at the end, but we do not know the end result. In the beginning, chaos triumphed over order, Joker shot Ike and all the planning and thought to pull the heist was for a one single reason, propagate chaos.
It's one of the most multi-layered introductions to a film we've seen to date.
This
The criminal community is very close knit and most of these guys demonstrated valuable skills that your average hood rat could never possess. The moment any of them was told by the boss to kill the other guy so their share of money was bigger they'd back out knowing this job was fucked. Even the greedy ones would refuse based on the fact that even if the boss didn't betray them, the news that each memebr was shot in the back of the head before the cops arrived would quickly circulate and they would be dead men walking anyways. Trust and word of mouth is everything in the criminal world.
>agent of chaos successfully spreads chaos by following strict plans
It's sounds like something a child would think up. The kind of shit that only works in movies and you have to "turn your brain off" to enjoy.
All those other buses were hijacked and driving away from other non-connected robberies.
The ADR work was terrible for this scene.
You make a valid point, but otoh the movie shows the normal criminals appalled by the methods of the joker, and how things changed. Part of the movie is about social contracts and criminals broke it first.
>"No, I'm Dunnhier."
Nolan you rapscallion! The sheer hubris of Dunnhier's reply is enough to leave me slow clapping for eons.
Gang backstory prequel when?
The Town
hubris
Autism
Same with this and the Joker and his thugs at the fundraiser after Bruce jumps out to save Rachel. What did he do, just take the elevator down and walk out?
So why do they call him the joker?
>back a schoolbus into a bank in the middle of a major city and just drive off
