What is distinctive about Ridley Scott's style of directing?
Most mainstream directors have a certain visual or story-telling mode that makes their films instantly identifiable (Spielberg, Fincher, Lucas, Tarantino, Scorsese, Coen bros etc.)
Ridley Scott's movies all feel so different that its almost as if they were directed by different people:
>Alien
>Blade Runner
>Gladiator
>Hannibal
>Black Hawk Down
>Kingdom of Heaven
>Prometheus
>The Martian
Is there a thread that ties them all together? Does anyone else feel that Scott movies feel somewhat impersonal, as if he let the cameramen and editors do all the work and he just signed it off?
What is distinctive about Ridley Scott's style of directing?
n.b.
I like most of his films, and I'm not saying he's a bad director, just that he seems to have a very light creative touch
His movies look good.
On time and under on budget.
He won't give a fuck about you or your concerns.
Translate that into film.
I tried. I faced 2 years in a Maximum Sexuality Prison.
MSP IPC for short.
Here we see my cock.
Do you see? How it elongates. I have tattooed an Elephantis Dominicus around my groin.
I do the Elephant Dance in prison.
To my domistic bitches.
i.e. I raped men.
Not to survive
But for pleasure.
I live for this shit- XxX
Have you ever felt a man's spincter tighten around your organ? Your glans moistening his internals. His penis becomes erect. He feels shame. You break his nose and make him unconsciously decide my goodness oh my god oh my goodness dying to live living to die but my dick breathes fires for the city to cry
unmatched cinematography.
and strong female characters
>only 3 good movies
guy's a fucking hack
Scott is not an auteur, and his talent is as inconsistent as his style given that he's directed both amazing films and terrible flops. I'd also argue Spielberg is quite different between films, especially now that he's addicted to green screens and rarely utilizes actual camera work.
He's garbage at what he does, that's all there is to it. Dude lost his head after 2007.
Tony was always the better director anyway.
Low contrast and bloom
On location filming
Lots of practical effects
More than one "main" character
He has a thing about creator/creation relationships.
>alien
>blade runner
>gladiator
>alien covenant
refine your taste, pleb
>kingdom of heaven (directors cut)
>Prometheus
movies were supposed to be together, don't know how the last two got separated
>Prometheus
doesn't count when the second half of a movie is shit
Kingdom of Heaven was poorly paced trash too, 0 soul to it.
Gladiator and Prometheus are mediocre. Alien Covenant and Kingdom of Heaven suck
Exodus: Gods & Kings was a good movie, come at me.
It is a bit silly to see so many anglos in the roles, but outside of that one nitpick the movie is a solid tale about brothers who must fight against each other for what they believe is "their people".
Being indistinct.
I cannot think of a more overrated and reddit-tier director than Ridley Scott. Alien and Blade Runner are the only good movies in his filmography. Everything else is mediocre or trash. Why does anyone here like him?
>According to Scott, although the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak", and takes place in the same universe, Prometheus explores its own mythology and ideas.
>movie ends with literal Aliens coming out
lol, the hack can't help himself.
Because he's made a lot of different shit that hasn't truly stuck. Tony Scott was way better at his work.
Evil synthetic homosexuals making out
The Counselor is underrated. Cameron Diaz was weak, and a few parts of dialogue stand out awkwardly, but other than that, it's very solid.
Probably the best director alive. Problem is he can't identify a good script, much less improve on a bad script. Great script = Great film, Bad script = ? film. That's how it goes with Ridley.
Vintage Ridley is good, current Ridley is garbage.
you forgot The Counselor, All the Money in the World, The Duelists and plenty of okay thrillers and action films.
>Top Gun
>Crimson Tide
these two movies shit on anything R*dley has made
maybe Top Gun because it's the greatest action film ever made but not Crimson Tide.
Crimson Tide is a fantastic fucking movie, what are you on about? Certainly in the same tier.
It is a fantastic movie, but it doesn't "shit on anything Ridley has made"
