The station was in control by AI and allowed them to transport over there, because it had an agenda which it was using the Cyborg girl for, (not an android, a Cyborg). Which they realized while over there. It is safe to assume that once they were in there, the station resumed blocking transports.
I'm FAIRLY certain, that once she GOT spaced tho, they should have been able to lock on to her, but I'm unsure how far such a transport block reaches.

At a strategic seam of Federation space bordering The Romulan and Klingon (and maybe even Cardassian) empires, an important sector has plummeted into civil war. Now it's up to Captain Insert to command a ship dealing with the various factions like a UN general while trying to keep the plotting romulans and expansionistic klingons at bay.
Enough real world humanist stories for the patrician fans, enough pew pew laser combat stories for the faggot brainlets, and some elbow room for mindless exploration stories for self proclaimed Trek Purists. Just get off the predecessors dick already with these new Trek shows. The most TNG ever referenced the OT was a few treaties, some recurring c list characters and a phenomenal Spock special.

In TNG Worf thinks Klingons come from planet Kling. In TOS Vulcan was conquered by Earth. The problem with STD is not that it breaks canon because obviously that kind of consistency wasn't the point, it's that its writing is absolutely atrocious in almost every single way. often it's like the scriptwriters barely read each other's work, characters are so inconsistent and ridiculous, the whole register of the show is ludicrous and respect for the audience's intelligence is non-existent. The only people who have written a half-decent episode are Menosky and Paradise, and "half-decent" is being charitable in both those cases.

TOS was sorta intended to be a show for kids. Starved for an opportunity to write science fiction for TV, writers flocked into Star Trek and we got quite a lot of great episodes. Ever larger budgets for the newer series made many forgot core elements of Trek are camp and silly central.
ESP was taken much more seriously when TOS was made, and they should have quietly swept all of it under the rug, but Roddenberry decided to keep telepathy.
The way Burnham is written as a Mary Sue is infuriating, but when comparing it to some of the worst offenders in TOS (the Shat being a great example) it doesn't feel so out of place.
And science fiction is always abou social commentary; it wad unavoidable it would be infected by SJWism. See the example of another science fiction show for kids, Doctor Who. Soft science, check. SJWism, check.

Easy to forget having watched Discovery Pike for a while but original Pike was kind of colder, harder edged guy while at the same time not really being an action man.
Part of why the pilot was rejected by the network was it being too "smart" and not action-adventure like enough, with Pike being part of that.
They still wanted him to come back, but when they made a second pilot it let the actor out of his contract to be Pike and he himself decided not to come back. Roddenbury claimed occasionally over the years that he got rid of him but he was generally full of shit.
It's why Spock changes to much between the two pilots too, he's more openly emotional and punchy in the first one to balance out how stoic Pike was. With Kirk, he changed to being the stoic straight man. Although part of that was they folded Number One into his character as well.

He's actually borderline insubordinate to Picard and Riker too, often treating their orders as suggestions and doing it his way anyway. TNG script never makes it a sharp point, I'm not sure if it was Frakes and Stewart's acting into their character to show themselves slightly offput whenever La Forge acted like that or what, but it's sorta there. It fits the picture of La Forge, which is that he's kinda a jerk.
Other than the Captain and First Officer, it would reason that the Chief Engineer of a large starship would have the largest amount of personnel under their supervision; every single engineer on the ship ultimately reports to him. Since the Chief Engineer must also be an expert on the technical know-how of all ship's systems and often called into research and management of spacial phenomena because there hasn't been a good science officer since Spock, the Chief Engineer is usually an extremely qualified and experienced officer who has no real reason not to see their own command following their time as Chief Engineer. This is even more true on the larger ships, which a Galaxy class flagship post certainly is.
But when talking about La Forge, remember that he started off as a LTJG as Conn Officer, promoted to lieutenant and named Chief Engineer, and then promoted just one year later to lieutenant commander(Which is much, much closer to the rank you'd expect the Chief Engineer of a Galaxy class starship to have.) He's at Lieutenant Commander in just 9 years after the Academy on the Enterprise D- he was hot shit and I think a lot of La Forge was written about a hotshot with a chip on his shoulder and excellent skills, but minimal experience to temper those skills.
It's telling that he's still a lieutenant commander 9 years after that promotion. However, in one alternate future timeline in VOY, he's a captain of a Galaxy class starship, and he's portrayed much more Picard-like.
