Some movies take longer to build a fanbase and it looks like it's going to be the case with Alita, which is fine. Not everyone likes the film, but people who do, really really love it. So I think it will live on long after it leaves the theaters. It wouldn't be a first time for Cameron, The Terminator sort of went under the radar when it came out in theaters (still made a lot money because it only cost 6 million to make). I can't go again although I want to because it's expensive and I don't know how I will explain watching Alita 6 times if someone sees my movie diary

In the beginning the audience was mostly 20-something groups of friends and a few kids, but now I'm seeing actual baby-boomers and OAP show up for screenings. My local theater is even adding screenings - probably because the box office take per screen is really high on this movie like for Aquaman and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Fuck the haters, the movie speaks to us and is as archetypal as anything made in the last decade. If you can't afford it, don't go. But don't feel like it's wrong to see a movie that many times.

Take a break for a week, and focus on other things. Alita will be back when you return.

Also just think about where exactly would you shove this 20 minute interlude about hugo into the movie? In the Manga this cames after Hugo is a wanted man and Alita finds him before anyone else does.

And sure it gives context to why he's so broken up about losing his body because with it he lost his only memento of his brother along with his body and it'd make it clearer why Hugo is so driven to get to Zalem. But none of that is really necessary to the core story about Alita and chances are that scene would be way too slow and you'd lose like half the audience if you tried to force it in.

Ideally you'd work in it into the story in another way, or find some other path to making the audience care about hugo.
