Like, he's does sneaky stuff. He's the one who calls on the witch to cure Drogo, which in turn makes his injuries worsen. That's just one example, but you get the idea. He'll start making moves to undermine the Khals, and divert loyalty to his side.

He'll turn his sister into an idol of worship, while tricking her, into believing that she needs him.

Better. Not only is Harry Lloyd an underrated actor but it would be better for Jon’s story. Assuming you mean Dany dies and not him we would end up with a Dance of Dragons between Jon and Viserys instead of the Jon and Dany love story. Hell even if she did live Jon would marry her and she would side with him over Viserys. But the reason it would be more interesting is because while Jon as Rhaegar’s trueborn son and only heir and being a male is clear cut, night and day a better claim than Dany, Viserys would have an argument to have a better claim because the Mad King did name him his heir before he died. It would be legit grounds for a Targaryen civil war if they could explain were Viserys would get his troops. And now that I’m thinking about it he would probably have married Cercei in season seven (even she would know that would be such a smart move, but the show never goes into how weak her claim to the throne is) so we could have that alliance which would be extremely entertaining.

Personally I think all logic points against it happening. Viserys is too stupid, arrogant, deluded, and perhaps most of all, - broken - , to be of any use to anyone. Including to himself. Fundamental to Viserys' character is his royal upbringing coupled with his years being penniless, humiliated, and in exile, work together to create a broken shadow of a man. To have Viserys "wise up" feels fundamentally character-breaking and illogical. That's the way I feel at least.

But lets go with your idea that he somehow "wakes up" to the situation he's in. What's the point? We already have a character who was basically in his exact position - Dany. We see the way she goes about having neither gold, an army, nor allies, and how she goes about to acquiring all three.

Viserys' story, if there truly is a story to tell, would be essentially the same thing. Penniless ex-royale goes about trying to re-instate himself to the throne. Why tell this story at all? We see this story play out through his sister, except for the fact that she has dragons.

He hates the Lannisters for betraying them. Even if he can get past that (lol) there's other huge problems to consider. Cersei already has grown children of her own that are purportedly legitimate heirs to the throne. What are they going to do about Joffrey? No way in hell is Cersei ever going to abandon him.

Cersei would never, ever, willingly marry the beggar king Targaryen and try to produce children with him. For what purpose? To eventually kill her other children when these new children inevitably seek the throne? Why would she do that?

Not to mention she is also old and almost certainly can no longer bear children anyway
