If by "Hans Zimmer" you mean a team of ghost writers and producers doing all the work while he sits on his ass and gets all the credit, then sure.
fucking kill me. Why did Johann have to die.
Noooooooo not this asshole!! Fuck I am sick and tired of his generic ass music in every fucking film. He ruined the new BR with his BWAAAAAAHHHHHH BWAAAAHHHH. Seriously fuck that dude
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAM
Blade Runner 2049 is literally a masterpiece and Zimmer's fucking boring score is the only flaw
This. His death hit me hard
>t. retards who never even heard of Zimmer before The Dark Knight
that's all his music ever is nowadays so that doesn't really matter
Shut the fuck up you moron. I knew him since mid 2000s either way his music was always shit
Wel Hans, if your older music was good, why not return to form instead of white knighting yourself on Yea Forums?
who cares? it will be terrible, like everything else made today. there's no point. we're living in a cultural dark age right now, artistic pursuits are trite and meaningless.
>In a speech at the 1999 Berlin Film Festival, Zimmer stated that he is Jewish
D R O P P E D
Only his Batman movies and Inception, that's it
>percussive strings intensify
I didn't like Johannsson's stuff at all but at least he was a new voice in film music. Zimmer is fond of saying he's different on every movie he does but it rarely feels like it anymore.
Wow what a surprise
>I didn't like Johannsson's stuff at all
Yikes!
this, the secondary composer(s) that get credited together with his name (which is just a brand at this point) all have the same bland loud bassy orchestra sound, hans zimmer is literally the worst thing to happen to modern movie music.
>horns so loud they make your eyes bleed at the theater
Correct
>BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPP
name some composers who are better than zimmer so i can laugh at you faggots larping as soundtrack fans

There was. And A LOT

no kidding
Giacchino is a hack and I genuinely have no clue (outside of plain ghostwriting) how his early stuff is so good when literally everything he's done in the past 10 or so years is unlistenable.
sounds like someone farting into sheet metal
DO YOU NEED A COMPOSER?
I HAVE $60K SAMPLE LIBRARY
It's a score that doesn't work at all outside a theater.
vroom vroom KINO
The Gladiator score is the one Zimmer accomplishment of note, right? He didn't write He's A Pirate and virtually everything else with his name is just bland loud strings.
I'm starting to think he didn't write the Gladiator music either.
looks like kino is back on the menu
looking forward to the soundtrack being heavily inspired by arabic classical music and polyrhythms
His recent stuff is really weak.
But i can still remember his video game stuff after 20 years.

This. Greenwood is based af and he’s one of the few composers that creates real contemporary music not mentioning his work in Radiohead. Also I’d add Mica Levi to this list
Rain Man is good too. But "He's A Pirate" was him.
>implying Mesa and Sea Wall aren't purest kino

Michael Kamen, Elliot Goldenthal, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Joe Hisaishi.
Hans Zimmer hasnt made a decent score since the early 00's. Inception was just rewamped "Thin Red Line", Interstellar was just ripping off Koyaanisqatsi. Zimmers output in the 90's was amazing untill he fell down into the "Overproduced Minimalism" hole that he's never gotten out of.
He should have never met Nolan.
What's there to dispute about that? Badelt was "head ghostwriter" and there were dozens of people who wrote music for the movie, but Zimmer did the themes that everyone knows. You can even hear his demo for it if you want, it was put on some CD.
If Badelt had actually done "He's A Pirate" he'd have gotten a lot more work. But everyone in the business knew that it was Zimmer who wrote it, and Badelt didn't get any job offers for a long time because no one was interested in him -- even though his name is on the "Pirates" score.

It's called an NDA and "I will give you referrals if you stay quiet, goy". Badelt broke off to form his own company 15 years ago and gee that's about the time everything with Zimmer's name on it stopped having any punch.
This. It’s one of the few osts that feels like a real piece of classical music masterfully crafted.

>This Bedelt guy also has co-writing credit on Gladiator. He's looking like the boss ghostwriter.
Badelt was one of Zimmers proteges. Zimmer most definately wrote the main themes for Pirates.
There's even the cheap midi samples demo roaming around the internet since the early 2000's.
youtube.com
This screams 90's Hans Zimmer, which was Zimmers established signature sound way before Badelt ever started working for Zimmer.
Badelt and Zimmer has both confirmed that and the demo. Zimmer wrote the themes, Badelt and the rest of the crew worked out the arrangement and did additional composition.
Sure, Zimmer is overated, but he gets way to much shit and allegations of using ghostwriters when in fact Zimmer is probably the biggest ghost writer in the business.

based, it really is the only good original track the only other good track is literally one from the first movie and I will never not be mad Johan's score was cut literally a month before he died
Zimmer’s music is juveline. Anyone with FL studio, Finale, garbage band, or any of those programs could easily recreate the tracks that Zimmer puts in these movies. It’s not real classical, it’s “contemporary classical” which means that it’s a rock song with classical percussion instead of a drum set and horns/strings instead of vocals. That shit is easy as fuck to write and there are thousands of comparable composers putting out comparable shit for free on SoundCloud and such. “Epic movie music” is fucking derivative and awful. Listen to the melodic genius of someone like John Williams and then compare that to the glorified rock song that Zimmer puts out every time. Having a “beat” instantly makes your classical music trivial and childish
Guin Saga was some of his best work.
*juvenile
>Epic movie music” is fucking derivative and awful.
Redpilled
does Goblin still do movie soundtracks? they would be kino in this
Blegh... This is the first real disappointing announcement from this movie's development that I've come across so far. Still on track to being a great film but the thought of Zimmer's uninspired oscillating musical passages/filler tracks guiding us through the story does fill me with minor sadness. RIP Johann. We need you. Mandy's OST was great. Manages to occupy a similar mode of composition to Zimmer's but transcends repetition with it's clear influence from the drone subgenre to hypnotic effect whereas Zimmer's approach seems to begin with writing a piece in the middle and have it never end. Build up with out a premise or conclusion. Dull. I'm rambling now.
whats the joke though?
>the genious of John Williams
You mean the genious of Holst, Stravinskij and Shostakovich right?
Or in other words his melodies are trash and his music is just a series of “beats.” He’s on the level of a rapper fucking around in fruity loops
Yeah pretty much, more of a Dvorak man myself but the point was John Williams derives influence from the melodic structure of his predecessors whereas there isn’t a good melody to be found in the entirety of zimmer’s trash. If there is, he probably stole it from someone else. He’s completely uninspired
>his melodies are trash
dude you talk like you're 12
rather him than michael giacchino, i cannot for the life of me understand how he gets so much work in hollywood.
I said exactly what you said but faster. Brevity is the soul of wit
Johannsson barely made any melodies at all, but he was still good. Thinking good music is just good melodies is exactly middle school level of thinking
>Mica Levi
Based just for track "Love" from Under the skin. I dont care for movie, but that composition - it forced me to have unbelievable emotions, goosebumps an all the stuff
John Williams who is god mode.
But zimmer is the best number 2 no question.
faggots on here don't realize zimmerman has been around for 30 years now. everything from Gladiator to interstellar.
I will happily concede to Interstellar being one of the few modern works from Zimmer that is legitimately great.
>Mica Levi
Fucking JEW. They geneticly DONT understand symphony and melody. Same with art, they lack depth and asthetics perception.
Zimmer cannot compose, he is jewish and retarded. Hired through nepotism. Gets awards from his jewish tribes, and hailed and praised by his jew media buddies.
I always know how to spot brainlet by seeing them adore Zimmerjew. I like Vangelis.
>Denis Villeneuve is directing Dune
Awesome. I thought he would stop working on this kinda thing after BR2049 flopped at the box office.
Vangelis is literally 75 years old, didn't make anything relevant for decades now
Philip Glass, Max Richter, Ennio Morricone
there is literally nothing wrong with liking a good melody, it doesn’t make me immature like you’re trying to imply with your pseudo-expertise. I’ve written several 6+ minute tracks with a full orchestra, and so I’ve tackled the problem of keeping music melodically fresh. There is a balance there, too much work and you get Japanese anime intros, which are just way too “wordy” meaning there are simply too many notes going on, you may have repeatedly hammered the same note during a melody which is the greatest cardinal sin, and furthermore it quickly stops sounding like a voice and starts sounding like a keyboard doing a “solo” that is too “perfect” and “clean” to actually sound good. There is a balance between keeping your melody simple and profound but not too simple, and yet also not too wordy. The Japanese have the issue of having a shit language so I don’t really blame them. You can write decent atmospheric melodies where less is more, that’s what you’re trying to say and I agree. But perfecting the melody is the most important thing, it’s the motif you repeat and the theme that hits home, it has to be perfect. I’m not impressed with zimmer’s balance, he overcompensates for his poor balance with overdone beats and percussion and the abuse of the bass trombone player; poor lad is probably about to pass out
Zenials won't remember Zimmerkino

it this a list of dishonest films
In other news, pic related based fucker joins the cast aswell, can't find for which role though.
>whereas there isn’t a good melody to be found in the entirety of zimmer’s trash.
That's because you're looking for something similar to John Williams which Zimmer never wrote. I dont think you understand how down in the dumps symhonic film scoring was untill Zimmer entered the stage in the early 90's. People was pretty much sure every film was going to be scored with synthesizers and contemporary rock and electronic music. Zimmer brought the symhony orchestra back. Everyone and their dog was copying Williams in the 80's to the point that everyone was sick of it by the 90's. Say what you want about Zimmer, but before him, the only ones listening to film scores was nerds and classical enthusiasts who was to disillusioned with the contemporary scene in classical at the time and/or who didnt think film scores were beneath them.
Film scores have ALWAYS been derivative of classical. This was a point of contention in the 60's 70's 80's and all the way up to today. Saying that Williams is somehow more original than Zimmer means that you're wearing blinders, especially when one can even point to more examples of Williams derivatives than Zimmers
this was a positive surprise
>BWAAAAAAAAAAM
>We've got wormsign
John Williams stole a ton of stuff, though. And he hasn't done anything really good in 20 years. I'm no fan of Zimmer, but Williams is past his prime.
Someone like Goldsmith on the other hand was composing quality stuff right up until his death.
It is reddit to hate Zimmer btw
how is it not?
i don't think they can (or should) be compared though, john williams has a completely different style.
zimmer is good at his own style. i even liked the mad max score by junkie xl even if it might be labeled "zimmercore" or a ripoff or whatever. at the end of the day we can all sit here and masturbate over which "x" artist is better than the other.
Oh so he saved film scores from unoriginality by ensuring that every movie score after him would sound exactly the same as his. What a good thing he did for the future of music. Why bother struggling to come up with good themes and catchy melodies when you can just get that African tribal beat going and replace your favorite pop singer with a French horn. Hans Zimmer took classical instruments and wrote rock songs with them, and so now the entire genre is “classical rock songs” and actual classical is dead
We works fast and guarantees a level of 'quality'
It should have been Martin O'Donnell!
yes some random composer thats never done anything is the secret to zimmer's success even decades before pirates
Legendary is going to lose a few millions on villaneuve dune.
>Usul what are you doing?

dude zimmer has been around since the Lion King.
Yes, that was Zimmer.
This zimmer hate is just weird.
The pirates melody is literally the gladiator melody which was a ripoff of another movie I can’t remember atm. This guy recycles the shit out of everything
I guess that explains why all his “classical music” is dominated by tribal African beats
great, just 613 more days of this thread
Hans Zimmer scored Gladiator you stupid motherfucker....

okay.... this is also Han Zimmerman. John Williams is God mode, Zimmer is probably the next guy up
Should I read Dune?
You just sound mad because nobody wants your John Williams esque film scores in this day and time. We get it, you dont like the current zeitgeist in film scoring. You want your perfect 4ths and trumpet and woodwind flourishes. That's just not where it is at this point. Will it come back? Yes it can. Williams brought it back in the mid 70's with Star Wars which was a HEAVY throwback to film scores of the 30's and 40's. You sound a bit like Bernstein arguing that Mozarts melody writing was superior of that of Beethoven.
>and actual classical is dead
and it's been dead since the 60's. What's your point? Find me a classical chamber piece or a symphony written since then that isnt a atonal mess that is also critically aclaimed by contemporaries and critics. The only one I can think of is Penderecki.
keeps getting more kino
whoa whoa
Zimmerman is a badass, but Williams is still king. The kylo ren intro everyone knows and plays
Howard Shore, prove me wrong.
it is quite common in the movie industry though, everyone from jerry goldsmith to danny elfman recycle themes in movies. nothing to get all fussed up about.
JUST REMOVE ZENDAYA AND WOULD BE PERFECT FILM GODDFUCKING DAMMIT WHY IS ALWAYS THE SAME SHIT
What is most important about this news is that Zimmer is already working on the soundtrack just as the production of the film began aswell.
This means he has an entire year and some more to do it, usually sound mixing and soundtracks are the last step of the process with the least amount of time to do.
So you can be sure this won't be some half assed gimmickery and that Villeneuve doesn't expect some half ass 5 minute render out of it. Should be good
she fits the role
>>Yea Forums
>waaah the music sounds bad on my shitty laptop speakers!!
No one cares, faggot. I'm glad they didn't pander to you fucks when mastering the score.
I wonder who will be plagiarized by Zimmercrew this time. I hope it's someone good at least.
based
+1 based post.
when it comes to young talent in the game i quite like zimmer's "protégé" marc streitenfeld and max richter, though i'm not sure if the latter is even considered a movie composer or not. would be cool to see some female talent come up as well.
Yeah that was my point retard he used the same melody for two of his tracks
Okay reddit
ya at least the first 3 books. It is like if star wars was good
Oh? Are they going to bring young Zimmer via time travel to compose the score for Dune?
Id honestly be happy with anything new at this point, please for the love of god somebody write a score that doesn’t have that same fucking tribal drums shit going on in the background. Literally anything, even ambient sounds are preferable. The idea of a “beat” is so heavily ingrained in our society as the signal of “shit is happening” that we can’t even conceptualize the concept of “epic” without it. Meanwhile the actual rock genre is innovating in every direction while film scores keep doing the same old shit.
Deadmau5 impersonating him is genuinely better.youtube.com
Max Richter has never been a protege of Zimmer, if you mean peer, then yeah maybe. I dont think much of Streitenfeld other that I'm glad he broght back the woodwinds for the Prometheus score. Havent heard a woodwind section in a action film score for a solid decade. Actually disliked his American Gangster score, but that said, I havent heard much of Streitenfeld so I might be judging to harshly and lumping him together with my distaste for Prometheus.
>please for the love of god somebody write a score that doesn’t have that same fucking tribal drums shit going on in the background.
The world you're looking for is "Taiko Drums"
Sure I agree, but I think you judge Zimmer by his emulators, the "EPIC 8 HOUR TRAILER SYMPHONIC FILM MUSIC MIX" crowd. Zimmer is a victim of his popularity more than anything else.
>Meanwhile the actual rock genre is innovating in every direction
Like how? Rock and metal has been stagnating since the early 90's. Rock and Metal might be one of the most conservative music genres there is and this is coming from someone who grew up listening to nothing but rock and metal.
Progressive Djent is just the "shredding" of the 2010's. It's alot of nothing.
The last time I got my mind blown by a metal act was this.
youtube.com
I get what you're saying. I dont particulary like the overproduced minimalism that is the current zeitgeist, but the only way of beating it is coming up with something better. It's rare that "Fuck this shit, we're going 30 years back in music when it was better" ever works and when it does, it's the works of retro crowds working it into contemporary music ala 80's synthwave aesthetics.
Not an argument.
Who? Seriously asking
>80s synthwave aesthetics
The 80s didnt have "synthwave aesthetics" you fucking child. I swear the idea among zoomers that the 80s was some cyberpunk synth neon utopia is tragically hilarious. Not to mention the fact that the fucking HANDFUL if bands back then that were full synth, were populated by musicians who also knew how to play real instruments, not lazy ass hipsters on autopilot in thier basement apartments.
>Meanwhile the actual rock genre is innovating in every direction

oh max richter isn't his protege, i was talking about marc streitenfeld. you should check out the grey ost - i really loved what he did with the prometheus soundtrack though, very fresh and vibrant. especially the first half.
actually would put ryuichi sakamoto in that category as well, his work on the revenant ost was a breath of new air, i love how he added electronica elements to a movie whose protagonist/antagonist is arguably nature itself. great fusion of something synthetic vs biological.
also i forgot to mention johann johannsson, amazing work on 'arrival'. such a shame.

just stop
BWAAAAAAAH
I've bought the first dune book a few years ago but never got around to read it. Should I read it before this comes out or should I give up and just watch the film, lads?
At worst, soundtrack composers have less than a month to compose 2+ hours of orchestral music that preferably should sync with the film that may still be in the process of being recut.
I can hardly blame them if this is only possible if the composer recycles his earlier work and/or doodles the leitmotifs on a napkin and lets an army of apprentices do the orchestration and arrangement of each piece.
what's worst is rock that is innovating by mixing zeppelin, rolling stones, and aerosmith is constantly being attacked by 30 year old boomers
>All the contrarians in this thread saying Nu-Zimmer can compose shit

Rock is extremely diverse if you look at the full spectrum from progressive to electronic to heavy to black to viking to stoner, even medieval folk rock that derives itself from traveling singers. My favorite is the stoner rock because it’s the perfect mix of blues and atmospheric while still sounding raw ala Black Sabbath. Check out elder for instance:
youtu.be
It’s not breaking doors down with how original it is, but it’s clearly a distinct sound with a vision
What are considered his best
Did I every claim it to be? No, I said that when people bring something back they usually fold it into something new, like synthwave. Synthwave is a product of the 2010's, not the 80's.
I might have worded that poorly, so sorry if that's the case.
>I swear the idea among zoomers that the 80s was some cyberpunk synth neon utopia is tragically hilarious.
That is not the point of synthwave, synthwave emulates Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Carpenter, Moroder and maybe more overlooked, a thousand 8 bit and 16 bit video game soundtracks.
Synthwave is a very specific thing which is a result of nostalgia in a bubble. It's a very very narrow idea of the 80's and isnt really particular to the 80's as it is to just general childhood nostalgia for two generations of people who grew up on video games and VHS/DVD's of films from the 80's and 90's.

All of that is already set in stone for literal decades, rock as a genre didn't change at all all this time, which is why it's so borderline irrelevant nowadays
something like that would take me 2 hours to write in finale. It’s just a bunch of whole notes with those same old “mysterious void” chords from 2001. I mean it works, it’s fine I guess, extremely dry and mechanical though
>hans zimmer is literally the worst thing to happen to modern movie music
His earlier works were pretty good, he just got lazy
Here’s a truth bomb - every single world-renowned Renaissance artist had understudies/apprentices that learned their style and did most of the donkey work on their most famous pieces. This isn’t even disputed.
neither does liking them, and defending a composer who’s objectively jumped the shark proves you are a brainlet

Unironically the Dune subreddit.

Well I can't really bring my laptop to the bathroom, can I
>Batman trilogy
Yes
>BR2049
Yes but it belongs there and the overall soundtrack is actually good. Only builds on the OST from Blade Runner.
>Inception
No. It's not synth. Also the soundtrack has a good emotional buildup where the loudness fits very well.
>Dunkirk
Nope
>BvS
Yes but it fits
>Chappie
Haven't seen/heard
>Interstellar
Orchestrated soundtrack. Not synth.
If what you are talking about is the use of blowing instruments, you're genuinely a retard.
>Yea Forums enters the thread
Thread's dead, nice conversation guys.
Expect bland japanese anime/vidya soundtracks for the next 75 posts.
anyone who is not american and therefore doesn't think every germanic name is jewish
But seriously, jokes aside, Disaster Day of Crisis had the best soundtrack of anything in the last 20 years
I knew who he was back when the fucking Critic was playing on TV
Tyler Bates
Clint Mansell
Cliff Martinez
He just phones it in these days/has some underling do it for him, but in his prime he was real good. For me, it's The Thin Red Line.
Criminally underrated composer
is the plot adapted from the first book only?
Literally the dj khaled of scores
Meme viral name that carries weight, probably knows a decent amount about music and software but is either too untalented or too lazy to spearhead anything great so he has a team of uncredited people do everything for him
love tyler bates' work on armageddon and 300.
>Stephen Henderson is in Dune in an undisclosed role
Who is he gonna play bros? Shaddam?
>Wow, who would've guessed someone with a Germanic name is a jew
American intellectual at it again
DotD too
Watch some real period synthkino like Manhunter, famodactyl.
baron harkonnen? heh
Thufir Hawat definitely
>this is only possible if the composer recycles his earlier work and/or doodles the leitmotifs on a napkin and lets an army of apprentices do the orchestration and arrangement of each piece.
t. Shlomo Shekelblatt
Composers have a couple months to record once they have access to finished edited scenes but they always start putting shit together early in the production. Oftentimes, yes, with demos and stuff they may have written and archived years ago.
Garfield-tier hacks who delegate to a dozen different people and do no work of their own deserve no credit beyond that of their studio's name.
Already cast nigga

Massive amounts of scoring is time consuming bullshit.
Once you've got the basics sorted there's nothing wrong with having a pleb finish it off.
t. musician with a thousand unfinished pieces
>write a melody
>think it’s pretty good and start composing a piece around it
>halfway through I realize I subconciously stole the melody from something else
>drop it in shame
happens more times than I care to admit
That Glass track is in Watchmen
Anyone who likes (((Zimmer))) or thinks most of popular ost artists are worth discussing or comparing to real composers are fucking reddit and must go back. This isn’t real music
/thread
If only the Japs were like you
Zimmer is great. Fuck all you contrarian niggers.
I agree. He was better years ago but got washed up and just pumps up generic epik scores for $$$.
Steve Jablonski.
Such a shame he got stuck with those shitty Transformers movies for so long.
Ironically they are behaving like Yea Forumsirgins
>real music
go back to Yea Forums you fedora nigger
I am happy that you recognize something pleb now go watch Koyaanisqatsi(don't bother with the rest of the trilogy, first movie was the peak)

I have it as one of my lullaby flicks
Care to elaborate? I literally hate Yea Forums by the way. They are even more pseuds than Yea Forums
Holy fucking based. Fuck Zimmer
>grown man children defending his vidyagames
Yikes
Oh great, more doorstopper noises.
If only. The attack on titan ost was passable I suppose-for japs- but it started a trend of people copying it very poorly and the end result is objectively awful shit like the my hero academia ost. The one anime ost I actually enjoyed was sword of the stranger, only melody that actually gets the balance right.
Here’s an example: youtu.be
Listen to the section from like 2-3 minutes. The main melody is also fucking awful but this bit takes the cake for some of the worst melodic composition I have literally ever heard. This shit is embarrassingly bad and could only exist in the bubble that is Japan. Just listen to how many fucking notes they shove into these melodic lines and how many times they hit the same note over and over during the same line. I mean, there is absolutely no regard here for the basics. That is simply a failure to compose a melody properly.
When Hans zimmer was born,Mozart could finally sleep easy
*be put to sleep
This guy
All he does these days is write a suite and his drones do the rest of the job.
Who was his main ghost writer? Chris Tilton?
Whadabout Trent and Atticus...
youtube.com
mah nigga
I think you meant THIS guy
>The Gladiator score is the one Zimmer accomplishment of note, right?
Klaus Badelt was one of the composers who worked on Gladiator too.
This. Although I am positive that most of the work in their duo is done by Atticus
dubs and the movie never gets released
Trent is his muse
youtube.com
Beethoven, Bach, Mozart
Tilton has worked with him a lot. So has Tim Simonec who has been his conductor and orchestrator since day one (I think he recently retired though, he didn't work on Jurassic World 2 or Incredibles 2). If anyone has been ghost-writing it's probably Simonec, who no doubt had a huge influence on how good the original 'Incredibles' sounded which is what put Giacchino on the map for a lot of people.
Last Samurai soundtrack is good too, I guess he had to try more to make it have eastern themes.
Lion King bro
I dont know where that style originated, but I've heard it in so much japanese music over the last decade.
youtube.com
Very upbeat and melodies that goes all over the place without much purpose, though I think the example I posted is a much better example of the style.
Based retards circlejerking their hate for Zimmer

Even leaving out the most popular soundtracks of him, I could list a lot more kino from him
The Pacific soundtrack wasn't that great. They had what, 3 composers? Zimmer and two drones (including that hack Balfe).
YES!!!!
Book adaptations are never as good as the original.
adaptations are different. why do brainlets always get so uppity and crying about how different an adaptation is from the source material? can you not grasp the complexities of translating a work of fiction from the printed word to the big screen? what do you understand of pacing? what about dialogue? what about the way the narrative (dune uses a shit ton of inner dialogue so how can you effectively portray that on the screen?). you are taking a very abstract presentation and making it a bit more concrete and coherent but i don't think that's enough to get upset over.
i'd rather rewatch the lord of the rings films that read the books in any case.
>the absolute lack of Silvestri in this thread
For shame Yea Forums, I expected better of you. Literally one of the most soulful film composers alive. Even if the film he scores his utter shit you're damn well sure he'll give it his all every time anyway. That he isn't on the same pedestal as Williams is a crime.

I was going to reply to your first paragraph, then I read this. Thanks for saving me the time.
>ruins man of steel
What did Fag Zimmer mean by this?
He’s fuckig trash.
the shittiest part of BR 2049. He needs to fuck off and die.
far better candidates for score:
matthias faubourg
harrison bdp
victor ruiz
stephane bodzin
enrico sangiuliano
I was excited to see what he would do on the Marvel movies and each time (I think he's done three now?) he has completely shit the bed, with the exception of some of Captain America 1. People say Zimmer is killing film music, but scores like Silvestri has been doing recently are even worse. They're just 30-second cues covering very brief action bits, with almost no rhyme or reason or continuity between each other. That's not what film music is supposed to be.
That is the most Reddit list of films I have ever seen, what the fuck dude?
Personally I would go for a Michael Nyman score - but really it's Howard Shore who should be making the music for Dune, I don't think a composer has understood a film's score the way Shore did with the LOTR, it's like a fucking orchestral movement when it all comes together.
Well, if those people have a problem with not getting credit, its the social media era and they can complain you virtue signaling anti-semetic cunt. Until then we have to assume Zimmer is doing most of the inventing on his scores.
This nigga fucks women regularly, definitely a top 5 composer.
every fucking science fiction movie has some shit showing off the tech like this. Why cant they just film naturally? You rarely see this type ofloitering shots of people in restaurants just straight up looking at the "Technology" This is why sci fi gets shit on, it all feels staged instead of just being there because it belongs. Are there actual movies that do it right? Her did a good job of this.
Alien.
>there are people here actually calling Zimmer and the BR2049 soundtrack bad
OK edgy kids, time to go home now
Of course the BR2049 soundtrack is bad, it wasn't composed by Vangelis. Also Zimmer's synth are shit.
Actually it's even more depressing than this.
His music is composed by AI first, that's how the first sketch is made.
I know it because I was one of the authors of this system.
His interns later give it the polish.
What Zimmer does nowadays is mostly sitting down with the mixing engineer and finishing stuff up.
full cast and synopsis
>he literally went out of his way to grab the same synths that vangelis used in 1982
Ok kid next time do your research
>that'sbullshitbutibelieveit.jpg
The last memorable score he's ever done was BvS, Jesus.
>children here discovered that composers have teams helping them
OH HOLY SHIT SO YOU MEAN ARCHITECTS HAVE FIRMS THAT ASSIST THEM AS WELL?! WHAT A SHOCK!!!
I'm sorry Hans but you aren't Vangelis.
Generally, the system outputs multiple potential parts of the songs, then the best sounding ones are selected and transitions between these parts are created algorithmically. Next they're choosing the instruments, originally these virtual instrument were created as a part of this system, but I believe they're now selling them for other people to use. After that there's some creative work with details, done by humans, and then mixing and mastering.
WAHHHH WHY WOULDN'T BLADERUNNER 2049 JUST BE THE EXACT SAME MOVIE AS THE FIRST BLADE RUNNER
hey kiddo, it's called a sequel
MOST OF BR2049 WAS DONE BY BENJAMIN WALLFISCH AND NOT HANS ZIMMER
THIS IS NOT SOME SECRET "WORKER" OF HANS, HE'S LITERALLY CREDITED AS MUCH AS HANS. YOU'RE ALL GODDAMN BRAINLETS
Can't believe he hasn't been mentioned yet but Bernard Herrmann
Dune is a masterpiece, but your description is dumb af.
I agree, his soundtrack for Lion King was pretty great honestly.
