So I was watching Deadpool again this afternoon and I think I found a pretty major plothole.
There's a scene where TJ Miller is telling a joke to some guys at the bar. The joke goes like this: >A guy asks his doctor how long he has to live >The doctor says "five" >The guy says "five what?" >The doctor says "four, three, two..." Then the guys at the bar laugh.
The problem is that the joke simply isn't funny. So why do they laugh? Why do they laugh when he tells a complete non-joke? Really took me out of the movie knowing that the writing staff either literally could not come up with or use a single funny joke when they have all of recorded history to choose one from, or they can't tell when they write in plotholes to their script.
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO HOW WILL THEY EVER RECOVER!!

are you autistic
Nathaniel Moore
where's the punchline? where's the subversion of expectations that underpins a comedic moment? where's the inherent suffering of comedy within the context of the joke?
it's not funny, really did anyone in the cinema laugh at it, or even so much as chuckle or think it was humorous in any conceivable way?
Oliver Hughes
Doesnt sound that funny but could get a good laugh or two if you have the comedic timing to pull it off
Michael Parker
The character himself is an autistic fucking retard so the stupid joke actually makes sense. The real plothole is why are these dirtbag biker gang ex con drug dealing murderers interested in hearing and also laughing at such a stupid childish unfunny joke?
Robert Ortiz
Since when did dirtbag biker gang ex con drug dealing murderers have such high taste in humor?
Parker Phillips
>where's the punchline? >where's the subversion of expectations that underpins a comedic moment? >where's the inherent suffering of comedy within the context of the joke? Do I actually need to reply? Or are you just baiting
the only plothole here is how did you manage to survive long enough to be able to afford an internet connection and a device to post this with considering your mental deficiency?
Joseph Price
Joke is funny because it's stupid
Anthony Brooks
sneed
Christian Williams
The joke is that the doctor is going to murder the patient and the bar is a bar for murderers and the murderers laugh because they get the joke. That is the context.
Brandon Richardson
Exactly..you would think it would be more of a foul inappropriate joke
Hunter Evans
>making fun of the mentally handicaped dude literally had a lobotomy and is missing a large chunk of his brain, they obviously were just humoring him, as you would a child or a retarded person

>where's the punchline? Do you also need a laugh track to let you know when things are funny? >where's the subversion of expectations that underpins a comedic moment? The unit of time the doctor was using was seconds. >where's the inherent suffering of comedy within the context of the joke? It is about a man dying.
Did you went to a bar sometimes? You get drunk and tell jokes with your friends. Most jokes are shit, but in the context of an assload of stupid jokes, the not half bad ones make you crack up.
I think I am an outcast, but every dumb thread like this on, lets my social skills look like I am Gigachad.

do you have autism? legitimate question
Brandon Brooks
The diagnosis of autism has changed since the introduction of the latter editions of the DSM. We all know what is meant by an 'autistic' person - the developmental lesions, slight body malformations particularly around the head, the mental difficulties around reasoning and understanding, the tics, the weird behaviours, the outbursts etc. However, now that classical diagnosis is lumped together with everything up and downstream of it in terms of severity of symptoms into something called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This includes very mild forms of autism like Asperger's (which itself is a spectrum of symptoms).
I was diagnosed with ASD about two years ago (age 22), but functionally I'm very normal. The psychologist said that a few years ago my diagnosis would be called Asperger's, but now it has to be called ASD or 'autism'. So yes, technically I have autism, but I'm not some kind of drooling retard who flaps his arms around and makes farm animal noises all day.

the joke is that the guy had 5 seconds to live. since its a bar for mercs, they would typically have a dark sense of humor. the joke is funny in that context.
>I think I am an outcast, but every dumb thread like this on, lets my social skills look like I am Gigachad. This. Threads like these make me feel like I'm a well-adjusted person.

I fell asleep, can someone tl;dr this for me

This is the most autistic thread I've seen in awhile.

subtle audio cues and camera cuts have brainwashed audiences into knowing when they're expected to laugh at jokes. You're not supposed to analyse the joke. You're supposed to just laugh and release endorphins and feel good after you watch the movie
