shit, at this point the question is whether they will drive the franchise fully down to the cesspool that was initiated by Rian, or if they salvage what is left (which is not much after 2 movies out of 3) and give us at least something resembling Star Wars

A while ago someone circulated something that was like "JJ Will Ignore Trolls' Problems With TLJ" and went on to talk about how he was "going ahead" with the original plan
Disney is at the point where they've proved they "can" ignore fans' complaints, like with Captain Marvel when they just buy out theaters and tickets to inflate the sales and massive marketing campaigns that at least get that initial giant box office (which immediately deflated)
But whether that will be applicable for star wars after the previous movie outright flopping is a bigger question and one I don't think the company has considered
JJ has always been a company man more than "safe"

It's got to generate hype in a flash because they know they've drained the series of any real or lasting substance. Anything they put out now will build interest for like, a week. Then it will be open to criticism and the negative speculations the series is now subject to because of TLJ disaster. Think about how much possitive media was generated because every Disney fan thought all of JJ's mystery boxes were going to get answered. The bigger problem with the ST is the utter lack of worldbuilding or character arcs. Poe flies a black Xwing. While a cool concept, maybe use it to show that he is so good and still flies in an outdated fighter and gets kills.
We have literally zero new designs, at best some "improved designs" like bigger battleships, Gorilla AT-AT things and that's it. The "Resistance" Fighters all look like the one from the OT and the crucial plotpoint WHY Leia of all people has to run a resistance is never mentioned:

The lack of world-building was the biggest problem for me back in TFA. Because it just didn't make sense how we went from the end of ROTJ to this. And nothing was explained and then when they explained it in supplementary materials it was completely illogical. How you get from ROTS to ANH made sense but this didn't at all.

Pretty much this. I knew the sequel trilogy was in trouble from the moment I watched the trailer. Yes, watching the Millenium Falcon fly around doing somersaults is cool. But what does it tell us about the new characters, or any other aspect of what conflict there is in the movie or what is going on?

I can't wait to FINALLY find out more about the Knights of Ren, they looked really cool in the five second clip we got of them.
