Right so I just finished watching Hollows Grove and it was quite good. The cast was very natural and had great chemistry, the dialogue was hilarious at times. It also managed to spook me during a few moments. Pretty fun film.

yeah i had seen them all too. i think unfortunately FF doesn't have a very big audience, besides us and aspiring directors (and even that audience may have some crossover here). and everyone who really wanted to see them, has already done so before he started the channel. i know i went out of my way to watch them all after seeing the first one.

A lot of DS is really samey, honestly, and a lot isn't even really DS, but the good shit is good.

I'm actually trying to find a way of designing a fake logo or finding the right font, but this is an image I took somewhere here in Ireland I always wanted to play with.

I was really lucky that day, and it's a round tower where monks would hide their relics and hide when vikings came along, so fairly high. I got a good angle on it that day, proud of it. I could get into photography if it wasn't so snooty, I just wanna take spooky photos.

It's a really prolific genre, there's a Youtube channel with I think well over a few hundred albums to listen to and they add more every day. The genre's had a kind of comeback in the past few years. Just beware the channel tends to upload a lot neofolk, neoclassical, dark ambient and other ambient stuff. I've found old school and old school style DS is the best, but that's just me. Love the lo-fi stuff. And Varg's prison albums are all pretty good, he's a mad cunt and all, but at the end of the day, he has a solid aesthetic vision and he's a good musician.

sadly, ancient mythology is too high brow for the masses. they have no frame of reference to appreciate it because they don't care about culture, in fact they want to tear down their own cultures and erase history.

but anyway, faeries are a really interesting concept. I always thought they seemed much more sinister than things like Peter Pan (the Disney version) and other things made them seem. I know that's true of a lot of myths that have been sanitized over the centuries.

I used to play a lot of Magic (that's right, whenever I say I'm going out to play "cards" I'm not going to play Texas hold em in some smokey room like a cool guy) and they had a set with a bunch of incredible faeries and the art in particular really piqued my interest.

also I wish Preternatural was better than it turned out to be. I enjoyed it, but it seemed like such a unique creature to use in a movie and they just kinda spent more time doing "woahhh trippy bruh" than sinister trickery and using magic like glamours and luring you with beauty before turning out to be legit monsters.
although I suppose they were trying to do that somewhat, I think they could've done a better job of showing it.

There's so much fascinating fairy lore, the sanitized version we have is almost exclusively a Victorian invention, over here, fairies came in any shape, size, colour and temperament. They were either beautiful or monstrously hideous. They were alien in thought and action, they could be offended by the simplest things which is why we called them little people or good folk, they were polite terms of endearment so as to not anger the weird shit living in the hills behind your house. You could blame them for anything, why did your husband turn into a violent drunk? Fairies touched him. Why was my child born deformed? You built your house on an invisible fairy road. Or maybe they just don't like you. They were a lurking, constant threat with a host obscure, bizarre protections only certain people knew how to utilize. But lmao tinkerbell. Fairies were either old gods, fallen or neutral angels, or just other spirits that exist for reasons beyond your understanding.

although, I rarely watch them full screen anyway. I do a split screen (half internet or mspaint, half movie) but whenever I actually do decide to just watch the movie without distractions, it's usually a better experience.

but for instance last night, I watched on my ipad and the video would open a pop up when I touched the player to try to make it full screen, so it was even smaller than it should've been, yet I still enjoyed it. go figure. a lot of it is my mindset at the time, and I was really itching to watch something and pay attention to it.

I was supposed to read Spenser's The Faerie Queen in college, but I never ended up reading it. it was actually in the only class I ever got a D in (and the only reason I didn't straight up fail is because I would flirt with the old lady professor cuz I could tell she liked me for some reason. she was seriously at least 70 though).

Yeah it's the perfect length for a no budget FF imo. Something those darn youtube film makers should learn how to do. There are a couple of youtube films which are a nice length however, and I don't know if it's a coincidence but most of them are decent and better than those that are an hour and half long.

Look for the collections by Lady Gregory, Douglas Hyde or W.B Yeats, they've been reprinted hundreds of times I'm sure and can be found online anywhere, or sacred-texts probably, if you want to print them out. Ironically it was the Anglo-Irish gentry what actually went around collecting all these stories when nationalism started becoming a thing thanks to the based Romantic movement.

There's no definitive fairy stories, but there's some really good ones, check out Tadgh Ó'Cáthán and the Corpse, The Soul Cages (although apparently that was ripped off from a German story) and The Two Hunchbacks/The Hunchback of Knockgrafton, an actual traditional storyteller told me that story in school, it was nice. All this is online, just look around for a decent version.

If you want a good traditional Irish ghost story, Grainne Daly's Wedding is actually a fucking cracker of a story. Irish ghosts get really strange. Also read up about Leap Castle in County Offaly, the most haunted place in Ireland, I've been and met the guy who owns it, it's great. Left my dad alone on the stairs haunted by the monstrous elemental.

The folk tale collections by those three people are all legit rural stories, I think a bunch are written in the 'accent' of the people, so beware. If you've ever read any Lovecraft you'll know what to expect. I think M.R. James does it too, Martin's Close is pretty funny for the accented writing. But the fairy and ghost stories are all short story length so they're not so bad. Haven't read a word of Yeats' poetry, we barely read any classic Irish stuff in school, joke about burger education, but potato education is atrocious. Couldn't care about contemporary Irish literature, honestly, too full of liberals and misery wankers. If I wanted to make it in writing here, like I'm trying to, I'd write a story about a Dublin junkie asking for change for the bus along one of the main streets here, but nobody acknowledges him. Honestly the idea is supposed to be a parody of Irish literature about muh inner city and muh city characters, the bus fare goes up a lot and I just think it'd be funny for a ghost - of a dead drug addict because Dublin's drug problem - to eternally be searching for bus fare he can't even use. Especially now that they've privatized the bus service. Also the Millennium Spire, which is literally a giant metal spike reaching some hundred or so feet into the sky that's supposed to look bold and modern, but looks like a giant hypodermic needle. Man, I used to go to a writing group a few years back, ended up leaving though. I was told to my face by the person who organized the group they didn't even like horror, so it was pointless going. Also everyone was a boomer and wrote about lost loves and nostalgic memories of old Dublin. I wrote about ghosts and shit because I take the horror genre very seriously, but they didn't. I did get into one of their commercial publications, so that's something I guess.

That's a Penguin copy, those are good editions, do they have S.T. Joshi annotations? Those give great insight into the stories, that guy knows his shit. Shadow Over Innsmouth has like several pages of that phoenetic dialogue, and The Picture in the House does, too, that's a great little story.

Ah they're good people for the most part, gotta have balls to live in India. I'd never visit the place because I can't stand heat, but it's nice from afar. I go through periods of binge reading about different religious stuff because it's neat and informs all the gay nerd shit I do, and Hinduism is so ridiculously complex you need to have been brought up in it to get it. All I know is Shiva is cool, lots of arms means the god or avatar is power, lots of heads means they're wise. I like the idea of a cosmic law and the goal being to attain oneness with a divine consciousness, realizing you and everything from lowly ghosts to powerful devas are part of a whole. Buddhists can suck it, though, it's just one upping Hinduism, I take gumption with the idea that the universe in all its wonderful complexity and mystery is actually just an illusion of suffering.

so i told her "no, it means i dont do drugs or drink or have promiscuous sex" and she felt like an idiot.

and Song of Kali is by Dan Simmons. it wasn't incredible or anything but it was a creepy story because of the setting. i remember enjoying it but i also remember being glad i was done with it.

I've been on meds for most of my life now but nothing with any tangible effects, just stuff for my immune system. Nothing fun. I'm glad I'm too much of a sperg IRL to get into drugs, I don't think I'd take it well with my memory and temperament. Too poor as well, so that's something. The Terror is a great show, comfy but ends up not comfy at all, great acting, great production design, I'd heartily recommend it. Never read the novel, but apparently it's pretty good and goes into more detail on certain things. The Strain's shit though, watched an episode and had no desire to go back.

About the mead, ten years? Unless it's been stored well I'd be a bit wary, I don't know much about alcohol or its preservation, but read up first to see if it's alright, that could be real gnarly shit.
