How the FUCK did this not make a billion dollars? The animation was great, it had a message the media loves to promote, it was legitimately kino, and it's fucking Spiderman.
How the FUCK did this not make a billion dollars? The animation was great, it had a message the media loves to promote...
1. Minimal marketing.
2. Not Disney.
3. Crowded December.
Also...
>The animation was great
Stop lying to yourself.
didn't have enough spidercunny in it
name something better.
thought not, nerd.
>name something better.
Literally anything not locked to sub-par 15fps for the majority of the movie, Marxist.
because a better spider-man product came out weeks before on PS4, nobody cared
>The animation was great
There's your answer
>How the FUCK did this not make a billion dollars?
....does it matter? Not all masterpieces need to make more than billion.
Quality > Quantity
The low ass framerate made my head hurt in the previews so I never bothered to watch it.
It's too weird of an idea. Too unconventional. And a cartoon. We like our regular spiderman.
which was a part of the style of the movie you nerd.
Institutionalized racism. You people should be thankful that you’re living life on easy mode.
The human eye can't see past 10 FPS anyway
I personally didnt see it because it didnt have enough frames. I get the comic-page flipping thing they were going for, but it was very jarring to look at and i dont think i couldve done it for an extended period of time.
the animation fucking sucked
the low framerate meme is stupid as hell and was clearly a way to cut corners
Perhaps the animation was clunky a lot of the time, but it was shot dynamically. It had so much life.
you live in a small stupid world
>it's muh style!!1
You know for a fact masterpieces don't always make the most money, but rather something safe and low IQ. Look at Blade Runner and Iron Giant for example. Then look at Black Panther and Infinity War.
It was a design decision, and yes, I'm sure they were able to cut production time. They still implemented a lot of cool animation tricks. One of my favorites was the momentary overlays of the hand-drawn comic panels. Anybody that complains about the animation had probably only seen the trailers or just wants to payout what others here say
not my style, the style. holy shit.
Already 3 cinematic iterations of spiderman since 2000, people will see comic book movies over and over but they sort of blew the spiderman load by then. Also it's animated and looked weird.
>brainlets thinking the animation is bad
Literally How to draw for beginners level people.
Some people didn't see it simply because it's a cartoon, or because it's a kids movie.
I remember when I first saw the teaser trailer for it, I thought it was going to be one of those shitty Fathom Events type things, like when anime or the new DC cartoon movie is in theaters for like 3 days exclusively.
because not everyone is a weak minded manchildren like you and decided to spent their money on something useful
>released like a week after billion dollar boy Aquaman in an already crowded oscarbait season
>there's a stigma attached to animated capeshit as children's entertainment only good for direct-to-home video releases
>Spiderman has the most movie fatigue of any capeshit character
Quite frankly it's a testament to how good the movie is that it was so successful. And even then it didn't come close to the money a mediocre live-action capeshit makes.
Like Captain Marvel? I'm comparing it to other big box office hits. This was actually good, unlike many hits.
?
it sold like 10 million copies or something
Didn't this get destroyed by AquaChad ?either way, meme humor is only popular with nerd bloggers on twitter.:.normies (and especially Normie kids) don't care for the type of jokes in this movie
(Plus animation looked awful in the trailer)
Looked like 12 fps saturday morning cartoon garbage. I couldn't believe they had the balls to release it in theaters and ask people to pay money for it. What adult would pay to see a low quality TV show for children in a theater?
>a grown adult buying a movie ticket for a race-pandering cartoon
Of course it's not your style, but you're using the same excuse. "It's shit on purpose, so it's okay."
I’m a big capeshit genre fan in my 30s, I never got into comic books but grew up on cartoons as a kid (Spider-Man, xmen, Batman) so I have a healthy detachment.
The animation was the biggest turn off for me for this Spider-Man movie. from any previews it looked too flashy and polished, yet inconsistent and sloppy. I can’t even watch a free copy I downloaded, which sucks because the story looks decent.
>OMG Spider Pig! Like the Simpsons movie! Memetastic!
This movie was made for tweens, and if you're not a tween and liked it, it's time to give up the ghost.
>race-pandering
Weird animation style. The general audience rarely embraces non pixar style animation.
ah yes, black panther, aquaman and infinity wars made all its shitload of money off the 10million ps4 owners who bought spiderman.
the point is that no one saw it. If anything, the people who bought spiderman on ps4 were probably the only people who went to see it you fucking retard.
>muh /pol/
RENT FREE.
they didn't market it that much, and it's a shame
>>>the_donald
>>OMG Spider Pig! Like the Simpsons movie!
Peter Porker first appeared in 1983, which was 24 years prior to the Simpsons Movie, you uneducated pleb.
It looked like shit, that animation is a big turn-off. I'm not even going to donwload it.
>ah yes, black panther, aquaman and infinity wars made all its shitload of money off the 10million ps4 owners who bought spiderman.
shut the fuck up moron
Why would spider-man fans waste their time with a children's movie about spider-blackman, when they're already enjoying dozens of hours being the real deal?
you still don't get it you fucking idiot. The world is bigger than just people who play ps4. Those other movies made money because EVERYONE went to see them. If your argument is that 10million people bought it on ps4 and were too busy playing it to go see the movie, what about the hundreds of millions, even billions of other movie goers? You stupid fucking idiot.
>10million people bought it on ps4
>each copy is only played by 1 person and never resold
>PS4 has sold more than 90 million units
>each PS4 is only played by 1 person
confirmed brainlet
as for the rest of the people, Homecoming sufficed
yeah, double down with even more retarded logic.
you really think that tweens will get a joke from a movie from 12 year old movie based on a franchise that hardly anyone gives a shit about anymore.
This is one of the best looking films I've ever witnessed. The writing is sharp, the humour works, the characters draw you in. The visuals are so immense that this would be worth a watch even if those other aspects were lacking.
>Why would spider-man fans waste their time with a children's movie about spider-blackma
Because if they were actual spider-man fans they'd know that the actual spider-man is actually in the movie and plays an important role as well. Only reason the movie didn't do better is because it was animated and animated capeshit is like 99% direct-to-dvd tier garbage and everybody knows that. This movie being good means that its basically the first decent animated capeshit movie since Mask of the Phantasm.
no one cares about nigger spiderman
>Mask of the Phantasm
The majority don't give a shit about Miles Morales.
Spiderwoman would have been better. She at least had a back story that could have been interesting with the other universe Parker.
I'll wait for the yify for Spiderwoman.
Animated childrens movies have to be cgi and have to have talking animals react to sensory input that makes them act like normal animals briefly and then go back to talking be the main joke of the movie in order to make a billion dollars.
Reacting*, dammit
This. Not even capeshit can escape the animation ghetto.
>Spider-Man Homecoming box office - $880 million
>$9,38 average movie ticket pice
>880 / 9.38 = 93 million movie goers
Pretty much the same amount as PS4 owners... huh, how about that
Generic anime#17543 looks better than this
please fucking stop, I've reached my retard limit for the day.
Yeah, the original Spiderman is there as a marxist metaphor for white people and get laughed at how fat and lazy he is and therefore should get replaced by a black man
>what about the hundreds of millions, even billions of other movie goers?
you actually think billions of people would watch a spider-man movie, you're the only retard here chief
but he wasn't replaced, the perfect aryan one was replaced. Is that worse?
changing retard tactics I see, putting words in my mouth. You already proved yourself a retard, why keep going?
>putting words in my mouth
pathetic
I literally quoted you dumbass
you literally quoted me out of context, but I can't expect a literal retard to tell the difference.
Too much time wasted on filler characters instead of focusing solely on Peni
no I really didn't, there's no other hundreds of millions or billions of movie goers in any context, because the audiences for the game and the movie are the exact same, children and manchildren
now stop embarassing yourself, it's pathetic
Because they didn't pump their own money into it so that it wouldn't fail
look you fucking idiot, you quoted me talking about three specific movies and used it as some retarded argument that I said billions of people would go see a spiderman movie. I never said anything like that, so yes, that's you taking me out of context. Learn how to fucking read and argue properly you stupid moron.
I thought about seeing this despite being iffy on the animation but my girl is even more autistic about animation so I picked Aquaman instead.
Definitely made the right decision.
I hope they do animated shorts for each of the side characters.
You made the wrong one, you cuck.
I appreciate the attempt, but bait harder, nigger
only Japan and France know animation not you USCalart
15 fps
THIGHS of miley cyrus
the style was nice but the choice to lock it to 12fps was a mistake.
kys then
animation is for children.
faggot.
>2. Not Disney.
I wonder if Disney tried to sabotage it over the Sony rights to Spider-man and Disney wanting to own the Best Animated Picture Oscar.
Everyone dismissed it because it's animated so it's for kids. My family got to go to New York and I kept telling them to go see it and they saw fucking Aquaman. I 've never been so ashamed. I know they didn't plan to see a movie there
I will never watch it because it has a black spiderman
blacks make everything worse
That's Spider-loli to you, sir.
Never heard of this. I use mpv to mimic 60fps though and it was fine.
>hey everyone! In this timeline, spiderman is BLACK!
I just don’t care about capeshit
return of the joker was better
and 99% of the "direct to dvd tier garbage" that DC has pumped out in the DCAU, both pre-new52 (McDuffie stuff) and post is on par, if not better, than the Marvel cinematic universe. It's honestly a shame it gets swept under the rug
death of Superman and reign of the Supermen were good, not Doomsday (2007) good, but better than black panther or captain marvel. the only bad DCAU movie were all star superman and batman by gaslight
>it had good memes
is the gist of what he said
and I take it back, Return of the Joker was on par; Season Finale for Justice League about batman beyond was the best Batman movie
Doesn't matter. It's still the best Capeshit movie out there, It made back 4x it's budget and won a fuckton of awards. It's currently killing it in Japan.
That's all the success it needs to get more spider animation of this quality.
Hopefully it's a wake up call to other studios out there that effort means something.
Now post spider-cunny.
Even in animu style gwen is still ugly.
No Spider-Man movie has ever made a billion dollars. Far From Home could potentially be the first one, unless competition from Lion King overwhelms it.
If you wanted more Gwen my friend you just had to ask. No need to play games with me.
>The animation was great
jesus christ what a retard
What's the tactical advantage of attacking ass first?
Miles.
I'll agree with almost everything here as long as we're talking about nothing but the scripts. They are okay and could in theory be done in live-action with high tier CGI and they'd easily rival what the MCU has been cranking out. However my problem with them is the quality of the animation. As soon as you make feature length movies, my bar for what I expect from you is raised instantly. When you're doing a TV show, obviously you can't do live action with hyperrealistic CGI for basically anything because of budget reasons,. You'll going to get shows like Smallville, Supergirl, Arrow, etc. So you use animation because that's the only alternative you have to tell these kinds of stories. However those movies all still look like cartoon TV shows. There's no sense that the people working on them just see them as long TV episodes.
Maybe barring a few exceptions, I haven't seen all of these movies and don't plan on it but I'll check in on them every so often if I think the premise looks interesting.
1 is correct. I didn't even hear about it until after the fact
BRUH it looked like a fucking newgrounds Flash movie. If the animation wasn't garbage it probably would have made 1 billion.
I think it has something to do with the rotoscoped 2D animation (it's 2D rotoscoped from 3D).
The mainsteam usually doesn't accept animated films that don't look like your conventional CGI film.
Also, it faced competition from Aquaman.
Anyways, I really loved Into the Spider-Verse but Isle of Dogs should've won the Oscar and the Annie Award instead.
It's a much better film than Into the Spider-Verse, which was already a really great film.
Can you imagine how much the animation industry would change if Isle of Dogs won Best Animated Feature?
