What was that movie about the slaves on trial for taking over the ship and killing the crew? That might be a good movie for this, it had them throwing useless slaves overboard and women giving birth while chained to the floor.

Thats because there were 2 methods of shipping them. One was to tight pack as many slaves into the hold as physically possible. The other was to pack them in a way that they were more likely to survive.

how was the transport of slaves then? how many slaves were in a ship, how many sailors, how big were the ships, how many slaves might die in a trip, etc?

even without the expenses of buying slaves from the local Africans, they had to pay the crew, for food and probably taxes or duty or whatever once they were back so if they could get the slaves over the ocean alive that meant their profit would still be way higher. It would be like going to India to buy spices but then stow them in a way 50% rotted.
