I have seen every episode of trek, most of them multiple times. STD is so bad i have stop ped watching past s1 because of it .

If they weren't the focus and instead it was Pike and Seru who are fantastic it could have been great

the new spock is really good too and the klingon guy is ok, the blonde gay guy is really good too

If you ever actually watched TOS instead of highly cherrypicked clips, you'd see he could in fact act perfectly well. Theatrical in delivery, maybe, but Hollywood was still transitioning from theatrical style performance at the time, so everyone acts that way.

She's not great but I think the fault is more with how the character is written

Pretty much this. I think the writers thought: No matter what we do, this character is going to be accused of being a Mary Sue. So, why not tick every Mary Sue box in existence? Let's have her be related to one of the most important characters, who amazingly has never mentioned her before. Captain material? Check. Amazing kung fu skills and can fistfight a platoon of Klingons twice her size? Check. Can fly a fighter like Luke Skywalker? Check. Can speak fifteen different alien languages? Check. Can perform quantum mechanics and debug a computer whilst being shot at? Check.

Also, let's make her the emotional core of the show. Despite being raised Vulcan and conditioned to show no emotion whatsoever.

Actually she can, her character is just horrible written.
In real life, Sonequa is very charming. They just need to write the character so she can express more personality rather than being a brooding know-it-all.

And dont forget: make her even save the entire Galaxy by being the Red Angel.

Fuckin hell, the lead up to her death on TWD was so bad. It lacked any sort of context even though it tried so hard to be nuanced.
