What went wrong?
>shuts down kino shows to make super expensive 3D dark rides that break every 30 minutes
what did they mean by this?
>Close down 2/3rds of the park
>Leave it in that state for almost 5 years
>Make a shitty Toy Story area that's basically a single path.
>Rest of the park is nothing but Star Wars
The only good area left of DHS is Sunset Boulevard with Aerosmith and Tower of Terror
>when Star Wars land opens it will be so crowded that no one will have fun in Disney World for 3 years, and they'll raise prices of everything anymore
Going on 5th September, I'm seriously not looking forward to Hollywood studios because of the crowds, even the old stuff will be busy. On the plus side I can hope that the other 3 parks will be quieter.
I'd be temped to just skip it. I haven't been in 15 years, and I really want to go back, but I'm really scared of Star Wars. I've already accepted that slow seasons don't really exist anymore, but I don't know if I can handle it.
I go every year. It's certainly not as quiet as it used to be but depending on when you go and how you plan it's not too bad (pro-tip: go with a disabled person for infinite fastpasses).
I'd recommend it as it's changed a lot in 15 years. I have no idea what the Star Wars land will be like but I intend to just do the ride once and try and take in what I can given the crowds.
changing it from MGM studios
>I intend to just do the ride once
People were waiting four fucking hours to ride this in the days after it opened. I hope you get on it man. You go in September, what is the average wait time? Last time I went we rarely had to wait for anything. Five minutes I'd say for most rides. We walked onto It's a Small World.
I don't mind waiting around 4 hours to do the Millenium Falcon ride considering there's not much else left in Hollywood Studios to ride, they've gutted most of the park aside from like... 4 other rides.
For the queues it depends on the popularity. The newer rides all tend to be 1 hour+, other rides tend to be 15-45 minutes.
If you plan well and hit the parks in the early mornings you can knock out a few rides with no wait.
I tend to fastpass the popular rides and do the ones I haven't fastpassed when the parks first open.
Is the big Avatar ride ever less than an hour? I want to see that queue line, but I don't want to stand there forever. I was spoiled as a homeschool kid who could go to theme parks whenever we wanted. The one time we went to a theme park in the summer we went to King's Island and waited two hours to ride Son of Beast and it was the most miserable experience I've ever had.
I don't think I've ever really seen it less than an hour except during special events.
An hour isn't that bad personally, but it's longer than I'd prefer to wait. Definitely book a fastpass for these sorts of rides. If you ever do go back, try and do two days at Animal Kingdom so you can book a Fast Pass for both rides, since they only let you choose one of the two Pandora rides to fastpass on any given day.
That or just be there for when the park opens and bumrush it.
Does rope dropping even work if everybody's going to the same ride?
It can do yeah. A lot of people go to Disney and think they're on holiday so they sleep in a lot. That's your advantage. It's especially good on extra magic hours when parks open at 8am and locals can't enter.
Yeah, I know it'll be worse than it was 15 years ago, but I've been dying to go back. I think I'll wait and see how things are after Star Wars though. I'm really scared of it bringing way too many people in.

If it's anything like Pandora, according to Touring Plans: touringplans.com
Most other parks won't be affected, queue times in DHS might go up a bit but it will mostly be focused around Star Wars (and probably Toy Story). Other parks will actually be a bit quieter.
If you're really desperate I say go for it. If you're really desperate AND have money, consider buying the Star Wars equivalent of this when they start doing it

They sell about 100 tickets per day and you basically get 0 wait times for every ride until 9am.
I took the ferries from Epcot to DHS and it wasn’t worth the time spent, Toy story land had good atmosphere but barely anything to do
EPCOT > Animal Kingdom > Magic Kingdom >>>> Hollywood Studios
