99% of the 3D animation you see in movies are motion capture.
The Witness pretty much only had the nude parts manually animated.
All motion capture needs to be tweaked manually too.
Even the camera in The Witness was motion captured.

As an animator and artist, The Witness was the best. The rest was either reddit or a waste of assets.
The Secret War was second best.

The CGI is better than, but still as stale as The Spirits Within, an 18 year old CGI movie. Some of the animation has some notable quality, but not enough to suffer everything else. LDR is amazing. These animated short story anthologies are incredibly well executed.

But Zima Blue really hit my profoundly. As someone who constantly seeks self-improvement and a deeper understanding of the universe, it really was a ouroboros moment. I feel like I can die contented now.

The FTL technology is a warp jump, passing through another dimension. When there is a translation error, the ship can end up in another dimension.

The aliens of the dimension they ended up in were looking after the crew and trying to form a bond. Unfortunately humans are not that welcoming to radically different forms of life, so they freak the fuck out, hence why the aliens need to protect them.

Humans probably can't survive in the other dimension for long anyway, so it's a short stay.

Beyond the Aquila Rift novel stated clearly he is still in the same universe but away tens of thousands of light years and hundreds of years away of time.
The alien IIRC was much, much larger and sort of like the station itself, there was no impression of him being fed upon, and the alien was caring for him(it was strongly implied he does).However the alien didn't know how to communicate efficiently with the main character so that he doesn't go insane seeing him in his full form.

Yeah, it always bugged me, but the point was that he was trully alien, not only in shape but also in thought.
And his form wasn't just alien, but truly Cthulhu like-every time the character saw him, he went insane.

Reynolds has a couple of good ones(there's one where a scientists constantly goes through alien trials to get to their cache of leftover knowledge in old ruin, and eventually modifies his body so much, he becomes an inhuman monster).

As some one who has worked in all forms of animation from 3D, CGI to visual and special effects, I am a sucker for good quality animation with fun stories brought to life. If it aint yo thing, let it be. I agree with some of the dialogue being cringe, but for the most part the technical side is fantastic. And well if you cant appreciate that then go fuck yourself.

This is DEFINITELY the direction entertainment needs to go, if only because the elite SJWs cannot target the actors, or social political crap nobody really cares about.

My only complaint is that some movement of some 3d characters is too fast for the eyes to take in what is happening.
As someone whose messes with 3d as a hobby, the real life human animations The Witness and others were impressive to say the least.
Muscle movement, and neck skin moving over veins when they talked. Absolutely high end 3d animation at it's finest.

This is still untapped ground that the public has been wanting for a long time. It is nice seeing stories that are not bound by limits of filling a 2 hour movie format, or having to use pre-established characters.
Just take the story where it needs to be, and don't waste time. We're more than ready for more of this.,
