It was a painfully average Marvel film

The söyiest boy I know, he's paid by Disney to suck their dicks on youtube, was saying that the movie is ok but has some problems.
Surprisingly, a dyed hair SJW girl said it's bad and even below Wonder Woman.
My brother said it's shit even by Marvel standards. He watches every movie released here because it's his work.

He loves cinema. Sometimes he gets back from work (watching 2 or 3 movies in a row) and put some old Italian film from the late 1940's.

It was pretty good. Average for a marvel movie, but most of them are at least watchable.

The ending was weak though, she just sort of powers up and facerolls every antagonist in about 5 minutes. I didn't really feel hyped like I was meant to; "you can't tell me what to do, I'm me" is pretty generic.

i asked my friend (he saw it on the opening night) he said it was sold out on fandango but the theater was fairly empty when he actually went to watch the movie
make of that what you will. I'm inclined to think that the 80 million opening weekend was accurate so Disney just pumped it up by bulk buying tickets (even though the movie would still okay without it)

Yes, Disney bought a lot of tickets just to show the world that the first Marvel movie with a female hero would not be a flop. Especially when she is meant to be become the new main character of MCU, probably be the new leader of the Avengers, and appear in 6 more movies after Endgame.

It was actually mediocre to alright.

The grrrl power stuff was more cringey than offensively bad, they wasted Jude Law (especially their final showdown being a gag), I never really felt like she was threatened by anything and the kree/scrull twist was kinda blatant.

Otherwise it had some decent action (I'm a sucker for when capeshit has super saiyan moments, like thor in ragnarok and IW) and the buddy cop stuff was good.

Probably similar to maybe a thor 1 or ironman 2. Not awful, but looks worse due to being so close to IW and Ragnarok

Captain Marvel is the FIRST Marvel movie I've seen where the lead character got absolutely no fanfare or laughter. The only time people laughed was when the cat ate stuff.

It was ok, bur Brie was the worst thing about it. Her acting felt so bland. They hammer through out the movie how she's suppose to hide her emotions and what not, but her tone of voice didn't help convey her emotions at all, specially at the climax when her being emotional was suppose to mean something.

The irony is that I liked everyone else's performances. It didn't help that the black ladies performance was great, the movie would have been 10 times better with her as Captain Marvel.

i just watched it with my gf because we both got dragged on a double date with my friend and some third wheel
heres my thoughts on it

>boring through most of the movie, no tension, no lives on the line, no real reason for the characters to worry
>talos stole the show, literally the best part of the movie
all in all, it wasnt the worst movie ive seen in theaters but also extremely far from the best

The problem is that even when she finally “breaks” free it feels so fucking underwhelming because it doesn’t feel earned. Everything in this movie felt like someone wanted to fast track and cliff notes version of the hero’s journey so they could get her into End Game ASAP.

This movie was just so fuckjng bland.

any esoteric references in the movie that point to this? to me it seemed like her being female was an afterthought (if you take out the mansplaining flashbacks or just tweak them a tiny bit her character could have just been male), and that her characterization is primarily that of a tamed, demoralized aryan figure. fertility and motherhood didn't seem to fit her mold.

I've seen it 3 times now (mostly for work purposes, though I did enjoy it each time)

I like it a lot, Brie is good, Carol's new backstory is good, it meshes well with the other Marvel movies, has good action and character moments.

My only real complaints have to do with anachronisms, I guess I now know why my mom kept complaining about 60's and 70's movies being wrong about stuff.

Carol mentioned that she was fighting with her arm tied back, indicating that they had been inhibiting her powers. The rest of Carol's powers - flight, durability, strength, energy blasts, etc - are all simialr to how she manages her photon blasts. The Kree training focused on her manipulation of her photon blasts to the point she can controls. Now that she can tap into her full power, she emrely applies what she learn to all her other abilities.

Its like learning art. If you can draw very well at one thing, you'll be able apply that ability to other things.

If it was so bland and forgettable, people would have forgotten it instead on showering it with so much vitriol. I don't care if the movie finds success at the boss office, but I'm sick of all the bitching. For the record, I think Black Panther is the most overrated movie in the franchise by a wide margin.

Completely disagree. All three of those film at least have competent acting, action that's at least somewhat interesting and/or (minus IH) at least funny. Captain Marvel lacks all three qualities.

I couldn't stand Larson (and I didn't even hate her before she started hating white men for some reason), the action is unexciting and I didn't laugh once (and barely anyone in my cinema did either).

It was like a 6/10. I didn't hate it but I felt like my team could've been better spent. I didn't feel any drama or tension during the action scenes and I wasn't so gripped by the amnesia driven aspect of the film. I fucked a 7/10 chubby nerdy Filipina chick afterwards so that was a plus
