Current fad in movies. The reason its been so prevalent and had so much staying power now though is because of Marvel being able to keep most of their films to a specific style and formula, so that they're all pretty accessible while remaining pretty inoffensive with the added hooks of every movie building upon a single world, which encourages people not interested in specific movies/characters to see the latest installments for fear of missing out on something important even though most important details as it pertains to future movies can generally be summed up in a couple sentences.

Escapism. I read that shit like crazy throughout the 80s. When I turned 18, I completely dropped it because I knew that it was my coping mechanism for how shitty my childhood was. I would have loved these movies as a kid. Now, they are just fodder for shitposting.
There is an entire generation of adults age 18 to 36 that are using these movies to cope with how shitty adult life has become. Social media is tormenting you all and you've yet to realize it.
